RDC stopped working
by Guest Paul- 2 replies

RDC stopped working from my laptop(xp) to desktop pc(xp). Click connect and nothing happens -- RDC windows flashes slightly then returns to the initial state. I tested RDC on the laptop by connecting to a virtualpc(vista) and it can connect ok. The desktop can't be reached by a virtualpc either, so terminal services is broken on the desktop pc. The terminal services service is running and TS is allowed is system properties. Can you think of a way to fix the desktop?

Default Profile Problem with Email.

I've finished installing my various apps on a new Terminal Server running on Srv2003 R2 with Office 2003 installed. One of the things that I have done with Office 2003 is create a Transformation File (I think that's the right name) that auto creates the clients Exchange settings when they login to make my life easy when adding a new user. Want I also want is a default profile that sets up various mapped drives for the users. So I've setup my Remote Desktop with everything that is required, and removing access to Control Panel amongst others things, and also installed a custom COM file we use to autostore emails. Then once logged in under administra…

I need to be able to capture what is on a user's screen while I am viewing it via "Remote Control" in the Terminal Services Manager application. I tried to use "CTRL+PRTSCRN" and it did not work. Does anyone know how to do this or if it can't be done using Terminal Services Manager is there an alternative application that will allow for screen captures? Thanks in advance, J. Smith

Issue Opening Files via TS
by Guest SteffK- 1 reply

I have been looking for a cure to this issue for the past 2 days, hopefully someone here can help. We have a TS set up, all we have on the Server is TS. If I log on as the Administrator for the Domain I can open all files on a different server, by going Start --> Run --> \\servername then navigating to the file. If I log into the TS as a User (With Administrator rights the same as the above login) I go to the same file but get the following error, but only on access (.mdb) files: 'Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item' I have tried the following: The perm…

I have two TS servers, each one is running server 2003 enterprize with sp2. I have a thin client running w2k sp4 that has an hp laserjet 1000 installed. The laserjet 1000 is hosted on a pc with xp sp2. I can log onto a TS session on one server and print to the laserjet 1000. When I log onto the other TS server, my print job fails to print. No errors are shown on the TS server in event viewer. I can print to another printer on the TS server that is an hp 1320. I have played with the print processor setup on the TS server to match the server that works correctly and still do not get a print. I can try to print a test page directly from the TS server on the re…

Mandatory Profiles issues with 2008 and Vista
by Guest Kristin L. Griffin- 1 reply

Hi, I’m working on the TS Resource kit and I’ve run into a really weird problem with mandatory profiles. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Roaming profiles are working fine, no problems. Mandatory profiles work so long as they’re in user-specific directories. As soon as I attempt to get everyone pointing to the same mandatory profile (as described in this KB article), the user can’t get a profile and logs on with a temp. The terminal server’s Event log shows error 1521, but the network share is visible in Explorer and there are no permissions on it—we decided to eliminate that variable. What I’m looking for is either: • a way to permit all TS u…

Mandatory Profiles - Read Only Desktop
by Guest Kristin Griffin- 2 replies

Hi Folks, I have a terminal server farm (windows 2008) and I am using one mandatory profile for all users. This works fine, except that users can save things to their desktops and then when they log off, those files are discarded. Not good. So I want to create a read only desktop. I can do this if I redirect the Desktop folder to a network share, allow the Folder Redirection GPO "create a folder for each user under the root path", and then change the Desktop folder permissions to Read only after the user logs in and out the first time. It works, but this is a PITA. I read in Jeremy Moskowitz's GP green book (page 385) that I should be able to cre…

TS remote desktop on Domain Controller
by Guest PM2- 1 reply

I was trying to get TS remote desktop working on my Lab Machine last night (which is a domain controller). I understand that the GPO needs to be changed to llow log on through Terminal Services. I can't for the life of me find the GPO entry though. Am I right that it ought to be in Default Domain Controller Policy: Computer Configuration - Windows Settings - Security Settings - Local Policies - User rights Assignment ? Am I missing a trick here? Cheers Pete

Is there a way to publish the “My Documents” folder as an icon in TS Web Access? When my users log onto the TS Web Access portal, I would like them to see their “My Documents” folder as an icon. Is there a way to do that? For example: If a user wants to access a word document, I don’t want them to have to open their RemoteApp word and then browse to the document. I want them to be able to go directly to their “My Documents” folder, click on the word document and it open up in the RemoteApp. Thanks

Terminal Server 2008 and Remoteapp - unable to print to networkprinter
by Guest YADER.CELL@gmail.com- 1 reply

Hi there, I am testing terminal server 2008 and remote app. However, I ran into an issue with clients being unable to print from a published remoteapp session. If I log into the server with the admin account, I am able to print via the remote session. If I log into the remoteapp via a power user account, I simply cannot print. It will refuse to carry over my local printers to the terminal server. I also understand that the new TS supports a new printing mechanism called easy print. Well, I guess its not too easy at all lol. I temporarily assigned the power user as a temp local admin to see if its a permission issue. same problem persists, It wont prin…

Unfortunatly two/three people cannot get into the computer at the same time. IS it possible to purchase Windows Server 2003 Standard, add a 5 count terminal server cal and deploy this in the network with changing the workgroup settings (ie... RDP - what are people doing?
by Guest Mike K- 1 reply

Morning all, I used to use Version 5 of RDP that had the close button removed and that could be launched on a Thin Client startup / locked down PC startup so that it went straight to the Terminal Services screen. With the advent of V6 I can't now do this - or can I? What are people doing in order to setup kiosk stlye machines in order to remove the whole CP front end? I'd love to know as the V5 RDP hack was lovely. Thanks, Mike

Default Printer Changes to a different printer when logging into T

This is only happening to one of my users where when he logs into the TS his default printer changes to a different printer. he has to go in and set his default printer (which is a pain the butt). my only thought as to why this might be happening is that his NTUSER.DAT file could be corrupted, however before I tell him that I was wondering if it could be something else? -- Thank you,

TS Gateway question
by Guest pdx- 3 replies
I have some questions about a proposed TS Gateway and TS RAP setup. My proposed setup is Windows 2008 server added to a Windows 2003 domain (domain A) in order to run a TS Gateway. 1) Users from domain A will connect to the TS Gateway while logged onto the domain either locally or via a vpn connection so a question is, is a cert required on the TS Gateway? In my scenario it seems unecessary. Outside access to the TS Gateway wouldn't be allowed. 2) Users from domain A would be connecting to TS servers in other (independent/unrelated) domains and I'd like to setup a RAP to restrict certain users to certain TSs. On the Computer Groups section of the RAP …

Printer redirection problem
by Guest Justin Huang- 5 replies

Hi, I installed OKI C3400 printer on my Windows XP. The printer is connected to the PC with USB cable. When I connect to another Windows XP by using RDP, I can see the printer driver redirected in the session. But when I submit a print job, the redirected printer driver says that the printer is not connected. Actually, the document is correctly printed. Why can't the driver detect the printer via the redirected print port? Is this a bug of terminal server or the driver?

Terminal Services and Internet connection speed
by Guest Cary W. Shultz- 4 replies

Good evening, I have a question regarding upload speed (Internet connection): A colleague of mine suggests that the upload speed of the Internet connection (where the Terminal Server resides) is irrelevant. I contend that the upload speed is relevant and important. Example: A company has one terminal server in it server closet. External Users from around the US access it. Let's just say that they are basic users (Office 2007 with some MS Word and MS Excel and MS Outlook) and some basic printing. Let's say that there are 20 such users and that the hardware of the TS box is really quite sufficient. Furthermore, the Interney connection in that of…

Poor drawing using pen (ink) on a tablet via TS
by Guest sjrhughes@gmail.com- 2 replies

Our application is used on a Tablet computer by surgeons who will sketch a knee or hip joint and indicate where the damage is. When used on the LAN it the drawings are saved as sketched - nice smooth, round lines. When used over a high-speed Terminal Server connection they look like a 'join-the-dots' drawing. It is a little better when using Citrix. It is excellent when using UltraVNC. How can we improve the mouse re-sampling rate to smooth the sketch lines?
