I’m having two printer related problems on my Win2k3 R2 SP2 Terminal Server: 1. Local printers from fat clients disappear and reappear in a random fashion. 2. Thin clients default printers get changed to a specific other printer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -- KGNSheppard

by Guest Dan- 3 replies

I'm nuttting out a configuration involving a Terminal Server for remote usage. There will be 30 users using Outlook, Office, a 3rd party SQL database frontend, acrobat. Machine 2008 TS - Dell 2900 1 x Xeon Quad 3ghz 8GB Ram 4 x 73GB SAS 15k in Raid10 While I think the machine is fine and will handle more users if required, the connectivity limitations I have (mainly due to lack ongoing funding) are my worry. I was plannnig a 2mbps/2mbps SHDSL dedicated connection for TS remote use, a seperate ADSL2+ at the main office for other net traffic. However due to available infrastructure SHDSL is not avaialble and only high $ wide band services can be adde…

I'm having error ID: 1020 "TermService clustering failed to update the session directory, hrresult=0x80004005". I have two TS servers in a load-balanced configuration using sessions directory. One server is posting this system error, the other is not. I am a newbie with servers, and so the same with terminal servers. I've check with the Microsoft help and support center. Their response: "We're sorry There is no additional information about this issue in the Error and Event Log Messages or Knowledge Base databases at this time." Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. -- rmth

Printing Problem
by Guest William Holmes- 2 replies

Hello, I am having a problem with printing from my Windows Terminal Server. I would like a default printer set for each user when they log on. I want to use the same printer for everyone. What is happening right now is: When logged in as the Administrator I can add the printer and set it as the default printer. Printing works just fine. However if I log in as another user the printer appears but it is not set as the default printer. In addition applications do not recognize it. I have the permissions set to allow anyone to access the printer but that doesn't seem to make any difference. Any help would be appreciated. This is Windows 2003 R2 SP2. …

Temporary TS
by Guest Ole Weigelt- 1 reply

Hi Everybody, I would like to set up a temporary TS for employees and customers to test some new software. All our servers have Server 2008. We use a TS with per-user licensing for our production environment. The test server shall be built on one of our servers with Hyper-V. How can I make sure that the test server does not pull licenses from our production environment? Of course, I would install a license server on the test server (even though this is not recommended for production environments). Would these two license servers interfere? Thanks Ole

Problems logging onto server via Remote desktop connection...
by Guest philves- 4 replies

I currently help manage a server that requires rebooting approx every 2 weeks - the server is new. The reboot is required because we are unable to rdc to the box. However a visual check of the server shows no issues (can ping server, onsite ops team visually check server reporting no issues). Originally we thought this may have been system resource problem, we setup various performance counters which showed no evidence of a memory leak. It could be a DNS problem though I don't really know where to start? There is no evidence in the event logs indicating a problem. This is one of 16 servers and is the only one to have this problem. Does anyone have a…

by Guest Ramon Niese- 1 reply

Hi, I'm wondering if I have a problem on my TS or that its behaviour is normally. TS is windows server 2003 with latest sp. Domaincontroller is SBS 2003 with latest sp's. I have got 10 windows ce devices that connect to the TS. If i login those 10 clients seperately (between each login about 15 seconds) than everything is OK. If i login those devices all at once (between each login about 3 seconds than after the fourth login I'm experiencing problems with RPC. Event id 1219 (winlogon) is logged . The rpc server is not available. I tried another switch, another nic (with latest drivers) but the "problem" stays. Can anyone help me? Thx. Ramon

security settings problem
by Guest Andy Dyble- 1 reply

Hi We have a dedicated server supplied by a hosting company. It is not using active directory, it's just a standalone server. We have an application setup like below : d:\myapp d:\myapp\myapp.exe d:\myapp\data There are other supporting files in the d:\myapp folder. We are trying to allow the user to run the myapp application, but not let them into the d:\myapp folder so they can;t do any damage. They need write access to the data subfolder, but again, I don;t want them ti be able to view the data folder in case they move or delete something. I can't seem to find a combination in security settings that works. Thanks Andy

I have a 2008 terminal server. One user is having problems with their profile being created on the terminal server. When they log in only a temporary profile is created. So when they log off they lose all of their session settings. In the event viewer in getting event ID 1511. “Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log odd. I know there is User Profile Hive Clean Up Service, but that doesn’t work on windows 2008.

Windows 2008 Roaming Profiles not working
by Guest PaulK- 1 reply

I have a new Windows 2008 Domain Controller (DC) with the File Services rle installed and a new Windows 2008 Server with the Terminal Server (TS) role configured. All clients will be accessing their desktop from the Terminal Server using the VistaSP1 and/or XPSP3 RDP Client. I want the user profiles to be created on a server share on DC (e.g. \\DC\Profiles\%username%). I manually created the share on DC and configured a GPO to force creation of the "roaming" profile in the location specified. When a user logs on, a file folder is created (username.domainname.v2) in the share but it is empty and the user receives an error that the profile was not load…

Project 2003 on Server 2003 with TS
by Guest Jamie- 1 reply

I have Office 2003 and Project 2003 installed on a Win 2003 server running Terminal Service in application mode. Office 2003 runs perfect, but Project 2003 not so much. Every time a user opens project through TS it starts a Windows installer and takes about 1 minute to finish and go away. I'm sure this is some kind of registry issue since it doesn't happen to user accounts with admin rights. I think it actualy might have to do with adobe because the very first time a new user opens Project it does the installer thing then bombs out with an error and when you open Project back up it tells you that the Adobe plugin didn't open correctly and would you like to…

Remote Desktop Connection to Server 2008
by Guest TJ- 1 reply
I have a Vista client (running Vista Enterprise with SP1). I can use the RDP client to connect to a Server 2008 machine and logon using a local account. The Server 2008 machine is in our domain and when I try to connect using my admin account in the domain, it gives me "An authentication error has occurred (code 0x80090329)" and I am unable to connect. If I use my laptop (running Vista SP1) then I *can* connect to the same Server 2008 machine with my Domain account and it works fine. I checked my Vista RDP client and it shows 6.0.6001 and that RDP 6.1 is supported. This is really starting to bug me. Any ideas? Thanks, TJ

suggestions / recommendations for Bar Code Hardware / Software in TS environment
by Guest Cary Shultz- 2 replies

Good evening! Does anyone have any recommendations / suggestions for Bar Code Scanning Hardware / Software in a WIN20003 R2 Enterprise environment? Clients are going to be a mixture of PCs, Labtops and Thin Clients (most likely Windows CE, but Windows XPe if needed). Client has a bunch of "large things" that they rent. Barcoding is something that they are going to start doing for "asset tracking". We are moving towards all thin clients (PCs and Laptops will - generally speaking - be phased out). Not promoting onr thin client over another, but looking at the Wyse S30 / Wyse V30L. Thanks, Cary

Causing a Browser window to open on enduser's PC while in TS?
by Guest dudeDad- 1 reply

I need to implement the following behavior. Is it possible? 1) User in active RDP/TS session clicks on a URL (that I control - it is on Active Desktop wallpaper) 2) That action is displayed in the browser on the user's PC, not on the TS's browser. ------- Longer description: W2K3 TS/ Assume RDC client 5 1) User opens browser on his PC 2) Goes to URL on my webserver (running on LAMP) 3) Clicks on a url that downloads an RDP File AND leaves the existing browser window open (important... this window can be used as the target later on) 4) RDP session comes up and the user is logged in 5) On the Active Desktop Wallpaper, there is a link 6) The us…

TS Profiles

Hi all, I've configured a shared folder in the usual way in order to use TS Profiles on my 2008 TS Farm. The profiles are getting created on my server just fine (they are appearing as [username.v2] ) However, I am unable to access these profiles using the administrator account (access denied). I have configured the permissions as per a 2003 TS implementation that works perfectly. Can anyone advice? Many thanks, Mike
