I am running a window 2008 Terminal services Server. I have outlook 2007 published as a RemoteApp. When users of the RemoteApp Outlook 2007 attach a document to their e-mail they have access to the redirected drives from their local machine and also they have access to the local drives of the terminal server. For security reasons I don’t want them to have access to the local drives on the terminal server. How do I do this? I know there is a local security policy that I can set that will hide drives. This is located Under User Configuration | Administrative Template | Windows Components | Windows Explorer are the settings "Hide these specified drives …

Terminal Server Hardware Requirements and General Help
by Guest fox7- 2 replies

Hi: I have an app running on a server. I need to have 3 people access it over the Internet. I am going to run 'Terminal Server' from Windows 2003 Server, with the 3 clients accessing it across the Internet. I am getting differing information from different vendors and I know very little about Terminal Server and its requirements. The vendor of the software wants the Terminal Server not on my current server that is running the app, but on a workstation (hardware wise) with Windows 2003 server. He is also saying that Terminal Server performance is dependent on the hard drives performance. Is that true?? Do I need 15K RPM hard drive, as recommended?? Or does…

by Guest CC- 1 reply

Hello, I am using RemoteApps to allow remote access to our corporate software. The users need to save some documents to their own local drive, everything is working fine. The problem is that they are a bit confused to see "Documents" folder, "Desktop", and so on... Here is what I have already done : - Hide all server drives - Customize windows open file dialog with only "My Computer" shortcut. Is there a way to only let the users see their mapped client drive and hide everything else ? Many thanks for your help

by Guest Glenn- 1 reply

How can I play cd audio from the terminal computer on windows server 2008 terminal server? I can see the resource (local cd player). I open the folder and see the CDA files. When I click on it, Windows Media player even opens up, but won't play the files. It WILL play mp3s that are stored anywhere, and it will also access data files from the local cd drive. Need help! What am I missing? I thought 2008 supports this feature???

printers in Terminal Server and in Citrix
by Guest Cary W. Shultz- 2 replies

Good evening..... Two-pronged question: Do networked printers need to be installed/shared on the actual Citrix box in order for them to be available to Citrix sessions (not talking about the local printer attached to the remote user's computer....talking about networked printers within the local LAN environment)? Wouldn't it - generally speaking - make more sense to install these networked printers (all have a static IP Address) shared on a File Server....especially if the Citrix box is going away in the immediate future? Client has a Citrix Server (WIN2003 SP2) and a Terminal Server (WIN2003 SP2). They have several Xerox printers (five 4510s an…

Session Directory and Network Load Balancing setup
by Guest David Miller- 2 replies

I'm planning on setting up 3 W2k3 Enterprise Edition terminal servers with Network Load Balancing and using Session Directory. I've read tons of things about this in various white papers on Microsoft's web site, and found things described very generally and no specific examples. I was planning on using 2 NICs in each terminal server using unicast. Does the second NIC plug into its own subnet, or does it even need to be linked to the same network as the primary NIC? I saw nothing explaining this clearly. Is the name used in Session Directory the same as the name used by network load balancing? Do I have to create an address record in DNS for this name, …

Connecting a thin client to Windows Terminal Server 2008
by Guest Glenn- 2 replies
I have a Wyse Winterm S50 (running linux thin client). I can connect to a 2003 terminal server with no problem. I cannot connect it to a windows 2008 terminal server. I can connect to the 2008 server from my desktop that is running XP, so I know the terminal server is functional and accepting connections. I also can't connect using a HP thinclient running HP's thinclient OS. Both thinclient units were in the last week, so I would figure they have the latest firmware, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Currently our company has laptops each set up with the network printers. Printer redirection is currently allowed. In a move to thin clients, how can I set the Terminal Server to always have the network printers available? Ideally I want to disable the redirection so users can not print to local printers. How can I set this up? Would it be done via script? help....

Info: Windows 2008 X64 w/ QuickBooks 2008 installed - Terminal server Issue: 1. User connect to the terminal server using the remote desktop/Remote App- 2. User tried to save a file as PDF 3. User is asked what printer to use. - Problem!! User should not be prompted for printer - QuickBooks (on Windows 2003) would just automatically use the QuickBooks PDF Converter and save the file as a PDF. I believe the easy print is not function properly with QUickBooks PDF Converter. Reason: When I connect to the server - BUT i check the box (in RDP) not to connect printers, I am able to save the PDF without being asked what printer to use (They way…

Temp Device Licenses Expiring
by Guest Ravenscrest- 3 replies

I have a 2003 Server running TS, licensing is activated in Per User mode. However it only issues temporary Per Device licenses. We are now getting expiry warnings. We have 15 unissued Per User licenses and 18 temporary Per Device licenses issued. I know that TS licensing does not track per user licenses, but how do I ensure uninterupted access to the TS?

I recently added a terminal server to our office. Previously we used a SBS 2003 server and login time from password to desktop was less than 1 minute. The new server is Server 2003 64-bit, dual quad core 3.0, 4 Gb RAM with all current patches. The same user logins now take 30-45 seconds from password to desktop. Once login is complete, performance is fine. If however I log onto the new server as an administrator, the login is <1 second. What security issue or other issue would cause user logons to be slow? Thanks, Barry

Hi I'm having troubels with registry entries left after sessions end. I use UHP Clean and it does a good job on the 32- bit platform. However, system's migrated to 64- bit, and now the registry problems are back, hence I don't have a 64- bi version of UHP Clean. Does anyone know is there a 64- bit version for this? Some tips, perhaps? If not, a recomendation for some othe software would be highly apriciated. 10x -- Boro Causev MCSE, MCSA, MCDBA, MCAD CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+

SSL Cert for TS GATEWAY
by Guest RandyH- 3 replies

We love RDP over SSL and are going to publish apps for production, but I have a question about getting a SSL certificate for it. . . Do I need two certs? 1 for TS GATEWAY 1 for TS WEB Reading through the help file, it certainly looks like you would need two. The intent is, to have published apps working as RDP over SSL and if they want to get to a desktop they would go too, https://ServerName/ts/en-US/Desktops.aspx or I guess they also go too, https://ServerName/ts/en-US/default.aspx tia, RandyH

I want to test it on one server and go from there and having difficulties figuring out how to install software that is run based on ip address or terminal number. Anyone have any suggestions for good documentation on this??

Rebooting your term boxes

What is the best solution in rebooting your terminal server box at night. I have a schedule setup for them with TSSHUTDN but the servers will hangup from time to time on the shutdown. And this causes the terminal server on the boxes not to work. Me users are unable to connect to the server in the A.M until the boxes are rebooted manual. -- Awash
