I have 2003 Terminal Server installed. One of my remote client has a Brother MFC 5860cn locally installed and another client has a Lexmark X5470 installed. I am not able to install any of these drivers on the TS so they can print locally. How or what driver do I have to install on the TS that I can print locally. Thanks for your input.

Network loss causes loss of TS session
by Guest Nick-Mars- 3 replies

I'm having this problem with two terminal servers that we maintain (differant clients). When a user loses their network connection, the terminal server is killing their session instead of disconnecting it. As a result, they lose all of the work they had open instead of being able to reconnect to their session after the network connection is restored. I was able to test this on my own computer by pulling the plug out and watching as the session disapeared from the server about 30 seconds later. I looked through the group policy settings we employ on both servers. "Keep-alive connection" and "automatic reconnection" are both enabled. Any ideas?

I want to connect a seperate 2008 TS to an exisitng SBS2003 R2 server. I also want access to the TS from the internet. The SBS server has two NICS and I wanted to put the TS on the LAN side of the SBS box. Question: Do I need the TS gateway & if so can it be on the TS itself ? Is there a document that relates to configuration in this case? Any help appreciated. Regards, Peter

Office 2007 on Terminal Server
by Guest Toni Van Remortel- 1 reply

Hi all, I'm currently testing Terminal Server for use on slow links (256kbps max, +/-200ms delay). It goes pretty well for all needed applications, except for Office 2007. The Ribbon updates come trough at a very slow speed, like images. Is there any way to speed up these visual updates? It's a real killer for the Terminal Server solution here. -- Regards, Toni Van Remortel

RDP and user accounts
by Guest Adam- 1 reply

We are running 2k3 server with all users running RDP 5.2. One user account is being problematic in that it MUST be in the administrators group. Our software requires that the variable USER# be set for each account in order to be aware of what location is running it. If the account in question is in the administrator's group the variable is there. If I remove that account from the administrator's group the variable is no longer set and our software will not function. In fact, the start menu and recent documents lists are different as well (empty).

W2008 TS Session logoff
by Guest Teo- 1 reply

Hi! I have TS 2008 set up with RemoteApps. User launches RemoteApps, and when finishes working, closes the program window. If no other apps from the same session opened, the user's session changes to "disconnected". I want: - after the user closes all apps his/her session terminated with logoff (not disconnected) - limit the user to use RemoteApps only, but not full Remote Desktop session. Are these possible? Thanks, --- Miklos

Installing Terminal Services under Server 2008
by Guest Ole Weigelt- 1 reply

Hi everybody, I have installed two Servers with Server 2008 (I have installed the German Version, please excuse wrong wording): S1: Roles: AD and TS-License-Server, not activated, in AD one OU, GPO active S2: Roles: TS-Application-Server, per-User-Licensing S2 finds S1 as License-Server, states correctly that it is not activated and no licenses are installed. Online help says that activation is only necessary after many (120?) days. thus it should work that way. S2 is in the domain which is controlled by S1. I can log on as Administrator on S1 and S2 via RDP. If I create a new user, I always get the message: Your right to log on interactively ha…

Virtual channel access violation in mstscax.dll with Vista SP1
by Guest Preference- 1 reply

Hello, I have a dll registered to use virtual channel in mstsc (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\Default\Addins), before mstsc released with vista sp1 all works fine, but with the latest whenever I click on connect in mstsc I will get an access violation. First-chance exception at 0x6beab2f5 in mstsc.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000000 Tried to recompile my dll, doing nothing, just returning, and the crash append too. If I unregister the dll all works. Has something related to virtual channel implementation changed? I checked in many places but I have found nothing. In the debug session I see…

Server 2008 Ease of Access
by Guest Rob- 1 reply

I'm setting up a 2008 terminal server and want to completely lock down all sessions. I've locked down the start menu to only show logoff and windows security. The problem is, when you click Windows Security, it shows the screen where it gives the option to logoff but also the Ease of Access button. Clicking on the Ease of Access button opens up a whole new can of worms...mainly, the user could get to the internet if the played around enough. I want to eliminate the Ease of Access button completely. Anyone know how?

integrating office in terminal services
by Guest cfiller- 4 replies

I had to reinstall office on terminal services to fix an integration issue with another package. Now that I've done that users can't sign on remotely and run office - it says you need to be an administrator to install software. If I have the user sign directly on to the server, then I can open an office application and it does the little office install that is needed. Once this is done, office works fine when they sign on remotely. I can't have all users sign on to the server directly - how can I get this to work properly? BTW I did do the install from the add/remove programs - as recommended.

2008 Questions
by Guest Rob- 8 replies

I have a couple of questions: 1. I would like to set up an auto login link for terminal services. I have an app that I want to run but have the server locked down so that only the app can be run. I know I can set it up in TS Configuration but it prevents me from logging in under my own credentials for admin purposes. Is there another way I can set it up? I've also tried saving the credentials in the link but it doesn't stick. I would love to use RemoteApp but it just isn't feasible at this time. 2. When logging in with the restricted user, the various 2008 splash screens come up. Is there a way to eliminate them?

Hello, I've a virtual machine with windows 2003 enterprise server. I am doing tests. I don't have license. I've tried 120 test licenses. This server is the domain controler, then I've added the terminal server role. I've enabled the policies to allow log on terminal server the groups like Remote Desktop, administrators and users. I've enabled the remote desktop. But when the administrator or any user in Remote Desktop says "To logon on this remote computer you must have Terminal server user access permissions on this computer..." What is the problems, Thank you very much, SilviaLl

Processor Scheduling and Memory Usage
by Guest Rodney Middleton- 0 replies

Running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 in Terminal Services App mode. Before Term Services was installed, Processor Scheduling was set to Background Services and Memory Usage was set to System cache. After Term Services App mode installed and rebooted, Processor scheduling was automatically changed to Programs and Memory usage left at System cache. Is this the proper configuration for a Terminal Server? I ran across this post which contradicts the above setting: http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.terminal_services/browse_frm/thread/2d7b7ff42155d139/c5578738bbfdb847?lnk=st&q=terminal+services+%22processor+scheduling%22#c5578738bbfdb847

Language bar options -keymaps missing
by Guest Henrik Niesler- 2 replies

Hello! I've installed the Far Eastern IMEs and added a number of additional keympas as an administrator (Japanese, Chinese, Greek). When I login as a user the only keymaps they can select using the language bar are English (UK) and English (US). The users are locked down by group policy so can't even access regional and language settings - I've looked in group policy and I can't see a reason they don't see the additional keymaps. Is it profile related? Thanks in advance. Henrik

Auto Created Printer not set as default.
by Guest Mark Stoker- 0 replies

We have a user that is connecting onto our Windows 2003 R2 Server (Via RDP). I can see that they get a 'Autocreated' Printer but it does not set it as the default printer. I have checked the user account -> Environment settings and all the client device check boxes are ticked. They also have 'Local Printers' selected in their RDP client connection.

connection dies
by Guest Henrik Johansson- 1 reply

Wondering if anyone have any idea about why the spawn-dialog with "connecting..." dies on one of our servers when trying to connect with RDP? The problem occurs on a file server (Win2k3 SP2) with TS in admin mode. As the users can access file shares through DFS/SMB/NFS, it\s not a critical problem for the moment, but it's a little bit annoying when we can't administrate the server... This has happened before on this server, and since last weeks we've seen this more often (last week it worked ok in 2 days after reboot). Maybe something leaks memory, but can't figure out what when its "twin brother" with same hardware and the same (not 100% sure, but should be…

Unable to print to default printer
by Guest crackie- 1 reply
Hi, Intermittently I will encountered a printing issue where I am not able to print to the default printer as listed in the printer folder. In order for me to print again I will need to logoff from the remote desktop connection and re-login once more to complete the printing. Somehow I noticed, prior to logging off from the remote connection my printer will be hosted at X session. While once logoff and relogin the same printer will be hosted at a new X session where printing is enable again. I wonder the failure to print is anything to do with the Terminal Server session? TQ
