by Guest Alexander Wong- 0 replies

I would like to set up 12 kiosks for Internet browsing by using Windows Server 2008 - Terminal Services. For the ease of administration, I would like to use single logon name for all these kiosks. I want to know if it is possible for setup multiple profiles (Folders?) for each of the sessions, despite only 1 single user name is used. Thanks a lot, Alex.

Windows 2008 Terminal Services
by Guest dhollis- 1 reply

I'm using terminal services to serve up a web page which requires a java version incompatible with our other applications. Apparently TS does not support anonymous logins so I set up all the clients to connect using a single local account. When users launch the session, they are getting a list of all the other sessions and must select a session to resume. This results in other users being kicked out. Is there a way to tell terminal services to "always start a new session" when they launch the client?

We moved our .net applications(v1.1 framework) to a Windows 2003 Server 64 bit. When I access the server using TS and login as Administrator I can run the applications just fine. If I login as another user, I get a n error when trying to launch the .net application. Is there something I need to do in the permissions, to get the application to run under other accounts? TIA

I need to figure out how to setup terminal server so that users will see their local time and scheduling applications will respond to local time instead of the server time. When I did search here in the forum there was a link to an article about how to do this, but I was unable to locate it. Also I was unable to locate the info using other search methods. Can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks

problem with RDP printing
by Guest Elbryyan- 2 replies
I have several 2003 R2 terminal servers in which users connect via a dumb terminal to access the remote desktop. I'm having the issue with some users where they connect to the desktop and network printers are mapped but if they try to print anything they get an error that no printers are installed. It started out as only users from remote locations as users locally in the building have had no problem. However, I did have one user this morning encounter this problem. If they connect via the ICA client then the printers work but as we are phasing out Citrix we need the RDP printing to work for them. Any help is appreciated.

Limit access to remote server via hostname?
by Guest Ola- 1 reply
I have a server that i need to access via rdp. It is a public webserver and i use the windows firewall to block incomming request and so on. Is there any way to block port 3389 so that only users from say a specific hostname or with a specific computername or something can login? I have tried to add so that only people from a certain IP can login but then i have the problem that i have a dynamic IP at home that changes all the time. I can add a XXX.XXX.0.0/255.255.0.0 and it will help some but not that much. Anyone have any tips to make it more secure? Maybe i could do some "security bu obscurity" thing where i for example must go to some webpage and …

Session doesn't fully initialize with slow connection
by Guest Absolutely- 1 reply

Have a 2003 Terminal Server that works fine if a remote user is connected via a fast connection, but if they try using slower connections (dial-up, wireless with a poor signal, etc.) it connects and looks like session is going to start, but then hangs. Blank screen with nothing on it. I've been told this could be an issue with TS and logon scripts, but haven't found any documentation to this effect.

advice on server consolidation

hello, I have to install a new win2k3 TS with citrix. This is in a novell network (had 1 active directory server but caused too many head-aches with 2 logins for users). I'd like to confirm a few things: 1) Can I run the licensing server on the same TS server box so I don't need to have 2 boxes (one is wasted for just doing licensing). 2) I also need to run citrix on this box, can I run citrix on term server doing it's own licensing? 3) We are using citrix XP (a bit old now). We have to use a citrix gateway running on a dmz box for metaframe XP. Does the new version of citrix still require seperate machine running as a gateway? 4) For authen…

rdp 6 and anonymous terminal servces
by Guest Rich Raffenetti- 2 replies

We have a need to implement an anonymous terminal server which runs a captive application which does its own authentication and cannot use the windows authentication provided by the terminal server login. :-( We found that rdp 6 clients did not work well because the authentication is instead at the client end and without knowledge that the authentication was not needed. We discovered the enablecredsspsupport option which effectively disables the client-end authentication and the anonymous login proceeds without any extra authentication prompting - which is excellent. :-) I have two questions which relate to this. 1.. Where can I find comprehensive rdp protocol…

My company houses a few servers and also leases a few at rackspace in texas. We have a site to site vpn connecting out office and our rackspace servers. While internal, users that attempt to RDP to the public ip of (1) server, not the others, their session locks up. If they close the session and re-connect then all is well. I have them connecting through the vpn to that server now and it runs just fine. I need to resolve this soon to reduce the load on the VPN. Windows Server 2003 Standard

problem with Terminal Services on Vista
by Guest Matt Hickman- 5 replies

We recently ran across a problem where a Vista PC no longer responded to Remote Desktop requests. On the PC in question, we stopped the local firewall, checked the settings in remote properties, checked that terminal services is running and looked at the registry under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp Everything looks like it should, and does not seem to have changed. At he the command line, the following finds nothing: netstat -ano | find "3389" This indicates that there are no programs listening on port 3389. (I am assuming that netstat would find a program listening on port 3389 even if a fi…
