RemoteApp for Server 2003
by Guest Synapse Syndrome- 3 replies

http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/library/57995ee7-e204-45a4-bcee-5d1f4a51a09f1033.mspx?mfr=true According to this page, RemoteApp is available in Windows Server 2003 SP1 onwards. At this stage I am unsure how to use it. Would I be able to use a program that is already running on the server? That is, can I have an instance of a program running live on the server, 24/7, and be able to call up this same running instance, on a desktop computer, through RemoteApp? Could I then close the application on the remote computer, but still have that instance running on the server? Thanks ss.

Hello, Does the new single-sign-on feature work against a Windows Server 2008 TS Farm ? I configured the Policy to enable credential delegation and SSO works when I enter a TS name but when I try to use the TS farm name I am prompter for my password I see the same behaviour for RemotApp that point to the TS Farm. I just want to know whether it should work or if you should read more carefully the documentation :-) Thank you, Ralph

log on termincal server not working

Hello All, * I have a SBS2003 that is my main machine now (new computer), and I am now using it for my Domain Controller (AD). * I have another 2003 Server Standard (old computer) that WAS the domain controller, but i attached it to the SBS2003 Domain--this way I can manage the user accounts in one place, instead of creating them on the old and the new computer. On the older computer (2003Standard) I have my terminal server licensing server (unlimited). I was hoping that now that computer is hooked up to the SBS2003 domain, that all the users would be able to login to the terminal server (the old computer) without problem. It is giving me the mes…

licensing issue
by Guest DEI- 1 reply

I have three domain controllers (server 2003) that I have configured as a licensing server. When I open TS Licensing on DC1 all I see is DC1 and not the other two DC's. On DC2 all I can see is DC2. On DC3 (different subnet from DC1 and DC2) all I see is DC3 and DC1. What is wrong? DC1 is the master operator and I would like to deactivate it as a LS server, but deactivate is grayed out when I go to advance.

Terminal Services Printing
by Guest Tom Deckert- 6 replies

I have a TS environment connected to a WAN. When logging in from another LAN environment with Networked Printers, the default printers are not seen within the Printers and Faxes window while other networked printers are visible. In another instance within the same WAN shared printers are not seen within the Printers and Faxes window. I've read that TS shares locally attached printers, but that is not what I am seeing with the networked printers. Is there a way I can install the networked or shared printers on the terminal server so the user can choose which printer they will use? The shared printers are attcahed to static IP PCs. Thanks in advan…

Citrix and TS CAL
by Guest filcap- 1 reply

Hello! I know that, in order to access a Citrix server (running on top Windows 2003 Server), I also need a TS CAL on the client side. Is it possible to choose between "per user" CAL and "per device" CAL? May I use these licenses to connect to another Windows server (associated to the same License Server) through RDP? Any reply will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!!

I made a post on 1/4/2008. The post was describing how I would log in and get the folowing error. (Windows cannot access the specified device, path, of file. You may not have the appropiate premissions to access the item.) I followed Vera Noest recommondations through the control panel and I was able to log into the programs. I also set the \\server & IP address on the GPO of the terminial servers OU. I also used some of the group ploicys from the "Locking Down Windows 2003 Term Servers Sessions". Launching unsafe files is also Enabled. When our users log in , they now get the message that i was getting from the beginning. If I set \\server name it …

Getting Started
by Guest Powlaz- 2 replies

I am not familiar with terminal services. Is there some light reading you can suggest to help get me started? I need to set up a server for remote users to log into. I have an old server that I thought I could use but I'm not sure how "big" the server needs to be for 6 people to use it. Is it program dependent? Our main app requires that each workstation be at least a P4 1.8, with 1GB of RAM. I have a Dell PE2600 with a P4 2.6 and 1GB of RAM. I guess my best question is how do I go about sizing the server for terminal services? Thanks for the help. Po

by Guest create_share- 1 reply

I have Windows 2003 SP-2 Std 32bit Terminal Server. It does not show all the printers installed on user machines when they log in. Is it because of the shared printers which are not installed locally on user machines. Is there a way to all the printers even if they are network printers? Thanks!

Another Licensing Question......
by Guest Randy P.- 4 replies

We have an SBS2003 domain and upgraded a 2000 Terminal Server to 2003. We needed to add some licenses since we no longer had the "free' ones for XP users. The original group of CALS were per device. The CALS I bought to add were per user. After installing the new per user CALS the Terminal Server Licensing console shows "Not Applicable" under the issued column. I take it you can not have both versions of CALS on the same license server?? Where do we go from here? Thanks, Randy

I have setup a new server 2000 advanced server as a terminal server. I have enabled the terminal server component and added the TS licensing server name in this new server's registry. As a test, I opened remote desktop connection and tried to connecting to itself and i get this error: "Because of a security error, the client could not connect to the remote computer..." I get the same error on any other machine trying to connect to this new terminal server. I have two other terminal servers that have been working fine for the longest time. I just wanted to add this third one but running into this error. Any ideas? Thanks. Asif Shah

Configure wildcard (*.domain.com) on Terminal Server 2003
by Guest Kirstin Koch- 1 reply

I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 Terminal Server that I want to use with my wildcard certificate (*.domain.com) that was purchased through Comodo. The certificate request was originally completed through IIS 6.0 on my Exchange Server 2003 SP2, where I checked the option to use the Microsoft RSA/SChannel Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP). After receiving the certificate from Comodo, I exported the private key to a PKCS#12 file and included all certificates. Then I imported this PFX file into the Terminal Server's Personal certificate store under the Computer Account. Yet, when I attempt to select this certificate in the properties of the RDP-Tcp c…

My boss is pushing for our users to use Outlook on the term server and not on their desktops. We use POP3 and not exchange. What type of pros/cons should I investigate before reporting back to him? I'm thinking Licensing would be a big one as well as security... Any thoughts? Thanks, Matt
