Printer Redirection Problem
by Guest Vincent- 3 replies
One of our customers is experiencing some bizarre problems with printer redirection via terminal services. There are 3 printers that are being redirected and the appropriate drivers for each of these printers has been installed on the terminal server. Periodically, the redirected printers will dissappear from the printers folder and they will call us up and complain. Each time we encounter this issue, we log them off, restart the spooler on the terminal server and log them back in. Like magic, the printers reappear and work correctly. Has anyone experienced similar issues with redirected printers disappearing from a terminal services session? Any help is a…

Pro and Con of setting up cluster Terminal servers
by Guest Roget Luo- 3 replies
We have 3 Windows 2003 std terminal servers and splitting up roughly 120 users. It's quite a pain to make sure we are no overloading on one vs another as well as relocating users whenever a TS goes down. Wondering if it's a good idea to upgrade them to Enterprise edt and change to a cluster setup. Any pros and cons in such setup? And if someone can point me to some helpful articles would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I am running a W2K3 terminal server with IE7. It turns out that one web based application from one of our clients does not support IE7 and will only work with Firefox. Does anyone have any experience installing the Firefox browser and locking it down on a W2K3 Terminal server and can I run both browsers for the terminal clients on the server? Thanks

Hi All I want to programmatically publish a remote application on longhorn terminal server. To do this I have used "Win32_TSPublishedApplication" class of latest WMI. But PutInstance() method of IWbemServices fails for this class with errors "The parameter is incorrect". I don't have any idea why it fails. Below is the code HRESULT hr; hr = CoInitializeEx(0, COINIT_MULTITHREADED); if (FAILED (hr)) return 0; CComPtr<IWbemLocator> pLoc = NULL; hr = CoCreateInstance(CLSID_WbemLocator, 0, CLSCTX_INPROC_SERVER, IID_IWbemLocator, (LPVOID *) &pLoc); if (FAILED(hr)) { return 0; } IWbemServices…

Windows Server 2003 RDP - 32-bit display possible ??
by Guest Synapse Syndrome- 7 replies
Is it possible to use RDP with 32-bits display in Remote Desktop, in Windows Server 2003? I am using Remote Desktop for Remote Administration mode. In Administrative Tools > Terminal Services Configuration > Connections > RDP-Tcp > Client Settings tab, I can Limit Maximum Colour Depth to only 24, 16, 15 or 8-Bits. 32-bit seems to be unavailable. When I use 24-bit, and video played looks all blue. This is not a big problem, as playing video through it is a very rare event, but I still use 16-bit instead, as colours look fine in that mode, and there is not much perceptible difference in that mode. However, I would like to use 32-bit mode,…

When installing the License Server, you are requested to insert the Service Pack 2 CD-ROM. My problem is that the requested files: lserver.exe and a few other files are missing. I have searched the Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition CD2 (OEM version) and I cannot find the lserver.exe file there. What to do? -- User Sweden

Printing Solutions?
by Guest Pearl- 2 replies

I have a key application in one of our departments (program is called BuySpeed). We need to put this application on a Terminal Servers but there are anywhere from 300-700 users who will access our Terminal Servers and conduct printing on their local printers. The printers vary in model and type: mostly laserjet, some color and some dot matrix for check printing. In any case, we've done some tests and discovered that many of our printers are not seen by Terminal Server. Additionally, we can not use FallBack drivers because the features of these printers are key to the program. So, we are looking for solutions. I understand that one option is using Uni…

I posted a question in the Virtual Server 2005 discussion group. But I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience in running a terminal server inside a virtual machine? I have one running in a production environment right now, and it's proven to be a real pain. Is there anything I can expect to have to deal with or any pitfalls from your past experience? --RW

This may sound stupid but - Windows Server 2003 Standard comes with 2 concurrent licenses for terminal server. If I purchase a 5 user TS license, will I now have 7 available licenses for remote users or just the 5 for users and 2 administrative? -- Technonolgy can be a dangerous thing

Bug in 2003 Server prevents update to database records
by Guest DontRunWIthScissors- 1 reply

There is a serious bug in 2003 Server that is being ignored which prevents records from being updated when a Visual FoxPro application is used in Terminal Services on 2003 Server. This issue was not present with 2000 Server. I have proof in that I have hundreds of cases in the 2000 Server environment that do not demonstrate this issue that is obvious, although impossible to reproduce in 2003. What is Microsht going to do about it?

TS User Home Directories
by Guest lozza- 2 replies

Guys, Very simple question I guess...but I'm getting confused... What is a TS User Home Directory? I have always thought it to be the User Profile... which I redirect... off to a network share, as I do My Docs, Desktop and Application data. These all go to there own individual Shares on the network somewhere... Why would you redirect the User Home Directory?, I mean what is normally stored here? and is it worth redirecting this also? If you could show me how its implemeted in your environments, that would be great. Loz

I have a Windows 2003 Server that we use for development. The built in 2 user limit is becoming a problem, our developers are stepping on each other. I would like to increase to 4 users to be comfortable. The developers are usually in and out of there in a matter of minutes to configure something in IIS, copy a file, create a directory, etc. No heavy-duty apps are being run. Problem is when I go to Add/Remove Programs > Windows Components and select Terminal Server and Terminal Server License Manager, I am prompted with a warning that includes: "Program Installation: If you continue with this installation, programs that are already installed on…

Hi, I'am running a application via rdp on the client. There is an agenda applicatrion running that takes 100% cpu when dragging the appointments from one day/time to another. The window is walking far behind. Making the window smaller speeds things up. It looks like the videocard is consuming all the CPU power. The server is running smooth no bottle necks. Windows update on Win2003 TS
by Guest Erling Herstad- 1 reply

Dear Sirs. At my office we use a 2003 TS, and prefer not to restart the machine during work hours. Is there a way to prevent the windows update button (Restart now/later) to NOT appear on all the users screens after a update has been run? The restart now/later appears on administrators screen, but also at every users rdp, and they can only click on Restart later, and the popup appears every 5-10 minutes... With regards Erling Herstad
