Greetings Experts, I'm new to TS and have a question. Currently, we have 25 client license to use one TS server. This server is going to retire due to lack of hardware power. We purchased another server and would like to move these 25 license to it. Is this possible and how to do about it? I know you have to activate the license? Thank you.

Excel 2007 Default Security Settings
by Guest JesseP- 3 replies

We'd like to modify the default security settings for external content in Excel 2007 hosted on a W2K3 TS. The default for both 'Data Connections' and 'Workbook Links' is to prompt the user. We'd like to change that to 'Enable' for both of these as a default. In the Excel GUI, this is modified individually here: Office Button --> Excel Options --> Trust Center --> Trust Center Settings --> External Content. On a standalone workstation, these settings are found in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Excel\Security, with DWORD values of DataConnectionWarnings and WorkbookLinkWarnings. The default value (prompt) for each is "1." When you en…

Does anyone have any experience using light-duty, non Internet messaging software like PinkNotes, Phoneslips, Quickpops, Lantalk, etc. with Termial Server users? Any of them work decently when users are connecting through TS? Thanks -- Dennis

Ok, i am stumped on this one, Remove VPN option on TS
by Guest Noob- 6 replies

I need to remove the ability to create VPN connections off of only 1 terminal server. I know that I can create a new OU and move the TS server to there. Create a new GPO and make the change to "Network/Network Connections" section and apply it to that OU. But this is a "User Configuration" and will not apply to that server because there is no users under that OU (correct me if I am wrong on that). I can't apply the new GPO to the users OU because they make other VPN connection. So, how do I remove the ability to create VPN connections off of 1 Terminal Server? I have looked under the Local Security Settings but I am not able to find anything there. An…

Hello, We want to buy few (max 5) licenses for access 2007 in terminal services environment. Is it possible to purchase just access 2007 outside office box in enterprise version and then install it on windows 2003 TS? For the rest of the users we will use access runtime files for opening database, because most of our users just need to view data from the database. Is this scenario possible.

tsadmin not showing client sessions
by Guest Palmer- 3 replies
Dear friends, Recently I notice in wmy windows 2000 terminal server that I am not able to see connected clients in my tsadmin console even I can see their processes under task manager. The problem is that if one user tells me that his session is hang, I cannot do anything but restart the server to releive the lost session as it always tries to reconnect to the same session.. I have been able to solve that problem just setting the disconnected session livetime to one minute but I would really like to know how to recover the view of my connected user. Does anybody experienced the same problem ? Thanks in advance! Alberto

Terminal Server Capacity

I'm hoping to handle 12 mostly light-duty Access 2007 users (a single 25 table database) and two Word 2007 users on a Terminal Server with an Intel Quad Core Xeon E5335 2.0GHz 1333 with 4 Gigs of RAM over a cable based VPN. Nothing else will be running on the Terminal Server. Is this reasonable or am I off base here? Thanks. -- Dennis -- Dennis

Can't remote desktop into server following reboot.
by Guest Bobby- 4 replies

Hi We are using Windows 2003 SR2. Last night I was working from home and needed to reboot our exchange server. When it came back, I tried to remote desktop into it but got the message "Remote connections might not be enabled at the remote computer". This morning I came in work and the server is working fine, but I can't even remote desktop into it from work. I assume that a service may be stopped or something similar. I could try rebooting the server again, but can't do it just now. Can anybody suggest what it might be, to save me rebooting the server? Thanks for your help Colin

by Guest AndreZ- 10 replies
Hello, I'm getting issues with users not being able to log on because it says the registry is to small, and/or there is insufficient resources to load profile ... originally my registry was sitting at 98MB so I increased it to 150 .. it worked for 2 days and now the issue is back so i bumped it to 250 for the hell of it .. and now it won't pass 112mb but i still get the message.. the only way to clear it is to reboot the server... Any ideas on how to fix it would be appreciated, also any tips on compressing the registry would be handy too! TIA!!

Hello, After I installed TS (licenses are not yet installed) on Win2003, two free RDP sessions are not working. We are able to remote login only once not twice. Is it by design that we have to use now TS cals or is it still possible to gain two free RDP? Thanks, Kris

Terminal Services session and Excel 2003
by Guest jmanuel- 2 replies
I don't know where to post this, but figured I'd start here... A user accesses a Windows 2000 Server thru Terminal Services and has to copy and paste information from that server onto an excel spreadsheet on the user's desktop, which is Excel 2003. However w/several attempts, an error message would appear, "Cannot Empty the Clipboard" and the user would act by cleaning out his Clipboard but doesn't appear to resolve the issue. the user has found that disconnecting from session and logging back in helps buy some time--but I'm sure as time goes by it has become an inconvenience. If I have posted this in the wrong area, please guide me in the right directi…

Vista RDP client won't remember credentials for Win2000
by Guest Lucvdv- 2 replies
I'm using RDP to administer a number of servers (win2000 and 2003). Some are local, some over VPN connections, but the RDP client shouldn't be able to tell the difference (it's always connecting to a 10.* IP address). When I connect to a Win2003 server, I only have to specify my credentials once and tick the "remember my credentials" box, this works as expected. When I connect to a Win2000 box I do everything exactly the same, but it ignores the "remember credentials" checkbox: I have to enter domain, username and password all over again each time I want to connect. When I look at (right click/edit) the RDP file for a win2003 server after connecting t…

Problem with Licensing and "mstsc /console"
by Guest JSmith- 8 replies

We purchased 9 terminal server licenses (setup as per device). Whenever all 9 client computers are logged in, we are unable to connect to the server console using "mstsc /console" from a 10th management computer. However, if we log out 1 client computer then we are able to connect. We need to be able to remote control the 9 sessions from the management computer. Server: Windows 2003 Server x64 RDP Client: version 6 Management computer OS: Windows XP Client computer OS: HP thin client (t5135) connecting via RDP

W2K3 Enterprise benefits
by Guest Morten- 1 reply

Hi, I'm trying to figure out what (if anything) I gain by setting up W2K3 Enterprise Edition (X86) compared to the Standard Edition. My understanding is that it's difficult to utilize more than 4 GB RAM when the applications we use are primarily 32-bit ones. 90% of our users use only MS Office 2003/2007. Is this correct or can we use /AWE /PAE /3GB to use more RAM on the server? EE has support for TS Session Directory which is an advantage in a load balanced environment. It's my understanding that this requires a 3. party product to actually work since the built-in load balancing mechanism in Windows Server doesn't take the amount of users on each s…

Hello, I currently have a server with W2000, sql server, file server, and TSE. So now, I'm looking to buy a new server for only TSE. I want to buy a server for a max of 20 concurrents users. The users use principaly 2 applications connected to the other server via sql server. I have the choice between 2 hardware (or more) HP DL380 with 2 xeon processors 5420 (2.5 GHz), 4 Mb RAM, 2*146 G raid1. or the same server with 2 processors xeon 5460 (3.16 GHz) (cost is ... 2X) The prices difference is it necessary to have a good server ? I think no but .... For that, I want to install W2003 standard (is it good to install enterprise version ?) + TSE CAL. …

Terminal Services in Windows Server 2008 Default securitypreventing connection from internet
by Guest Andrew Davis- 10 replies

Terminal Services in Windows Server 2008 Default securitypreventing connection from internet I have a Server 2008 Enterprise x86 system sitting at home, which I use to run various game servers and whatnot. For whatever reason, since I upgraded (I formatted and re-installed to not leave junk behind during the upgrade), I have not been able to access Terminal Services from the Internet. I haven't changed the firewall at all, and the server can still be accessed for other services but for Terminal Services, it gives a connection refused. I've even tried connecting to the router's external IP from inside, and it still gives a connection refused. I only h…

tsadmin taking up cpu usage
by Guest John R- 1 reply

Hello, I hope maybe someone here can point me in the right direction. I have about 120 terminal servers in my datacenter, anywhere from 4 to 12 dedicated to each customer. My support people here (a group of 6 analysts) run tsadmin on a single management server. They are in the habbit of connecting to all of the customer TSs in tsadmin and staying in all day. This has never really been an issue. All of the TSs are on the same lan subnet, and are connected via cisco managed switches. All hardware is identical, and all ports on the switches are configured the same. Recently however, the management server has been over-utilizing cpu usage, remaini…

The printer driver is unknow: when users log into 2003 Terminal
by Guest The Rev- 6 replies

I run two .VBS scripts in AD that add printers to the users machines. It works good when the users log into their computers at work. When the users connect to the 2003 R2 SP2 term srv, they reveive a windows script host popup that has the path to the policy and has code: 80070705. All they have to do is click OK and it goes away. It has now become anoying to the partner group. I loaded the printer drivers onto the term srv and this error yet appears. All of my .bat script load good. Is there a conflict with VBS scripts and term srv? Thank you in advance.

Limit Desktop Interface
by Guest shepcon- 1 reply

I've just installed TS on a new Windows 2003 R2 Standard X64 server and all is running pretty well. I've installed the necessary applications that my remote users will need. I'd now like to lock down the desktop and pretty much just limit the users to open the 3 icons that I've placed on their desktops. I'd like to remove the Start Menu, Run and pretty much everything if this is possible. Saying this, what's the best way? I'll only have about 10 connected users and roaming policies/document redirection is not necessary. The three programs that I have are all SQL-based applications and they only need the three icons that I've given them. They will …

Hi We are using Windows 2003 SR2. We currently have Office 2003 installed on our TS server. I need to remove it and install Office 2007 Professional plus. I have been told to be careful because the installation is different to a normal P/C. Can anybody tell me if this is correct and if so can you tell me what is different, or direct me to any internet resource which might help me? Thanks for you help Colin

How to Determine Terminal Server Mode
by Guest shepcon- 2 replies
I've just completed an install of Windows 2003 R2 Server Standard x64 Edition. I did also install the Terminal Server role on this server and I followed "Deploying Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server to Host User Desktops in a SBS 2003 Environment." During the install, I was never asked which mode to install TS in. I need to deploy applications and not just remote admin. How do I determine which mode I actually installed? I cannot locate this and I know it must be basic. Thanks. Ken
