Problems with USB User printing in 2003 TS
by Guest JH- 8 replies

Hello, I have a situation where if I log in to my 2003 SP1 TS server as domain admin, I can see the USB HP 1505N redirected printer in the listing. If I print a test page it works then I log off and the printers are deleted with the session. When I log in as a regular user, I see the printer redirected and I go to print a test page and it doesn't get to the printer. It shows in the queue as a job pending but never completes. If I try and cancel the job it will just show deleting so then I try to log off the session and it never completes, it just shows saving settings in the window. For me to get the printing working again, I have to log back in as admin…

TS 2000 Workgroup server
by Guest DMorgan310- 10 replies

We currently have a Win2K Terminal Server setup in its own Workgroup and it is not a part of (and can't be) our windows 2003 Active Directory. It has been working fine in this configuration and continues to work fine for computers and users that have been on the network for a while, however, as we get rid of old computers and set up the new computers something is slipping through the cracks. When we try to connect new computers to the terminal server through remote desktop we get the error “The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol. Please try connecting to the remote computer again or contact your server a…

Hi, I am having trouble getting Office 2007 to run under Terminal Services on Windows Server 2008. I have installed it using the install app for terminal services in control panel, setup up the program through remoteapp, etc.. ( i have setup ms paint and peachtree 2008 properly and they work). My problem is whenever i try to run any Office 2007 app either locally ( on server 2008 ) or through the webaccess page the application loads up but i get a message stating "This feature is not available". Any suggestions on what to try here?? (Yes it is a volume license copy of Office 2007 Enterprise)

TS licensing server question
by Guest Saral6978- 4 replies

I recently implemented a new DC and also made that DC a Terminal Licensing Server. My old DC, which was just recently demoted, was also a Terminal License Server, and is still active. My new server has been receiving requests and getting licenses, but the majority of them are still on the original license server (the old DC). These licenses are all Builtin licenses that do not expire because they are XP machines connecting to a 2000 Citrix box). My question is, is that I have to take down the old DC and remove the TS License role on it, so I'd like to deactivate it, etc. Will those PCs that have a builtin license on the old licensing server automatical…

an extra empty print job for each print job
by Guest wim.wauters@unisoftdesign.co.uk- 3 replies

Hi all, I have a remote site which has this very consistent problem: they can print on their WASP lable printer fine (it runs off of one of the PCs), but when trying to print to their local printer (an HP 2600n, through a TCP/IP port), they keep getting an extra print jobs: - which are empty - first one can't be deleted - first one stalls the PC's printer queue and the printer itself Restarting the spooler clears the problematic first empty print job, but my long suffering network users don't get access to windows services...so they end up rebooting their PC instead. The local printers can't be reached directly from the terminal server, as this would r…

Default Domain Name for Terminal Server login defaults to local computer name instead of domain name Hello All! It's about a 20 Terminal Servers 2003 network clustered through Microsoft NLB. DC, FS, SAN are all redundant and the network is a stable one, having been live for years. Most users reach the terminal servers by means of Neoware thin clients. There are about 1000 accounts, average online user number is 200. The issue is that sometimes at log-in time (read below) all terminal servers seem to agree to default to their computer name instead of the domain name (there is only one domain name, no trusts). This confuses thin client users who are u…

Hi all Looking at setting up a Windows 2003 Terminal Services Server I've had a quick google about and found the Microsoft pages on installing the server / licences etc However I cant seem to find much on installing applications on TS once it is running Do apps have to be specially written ? How would you go about installing a non Office / standard sort of application ? Does it look in certain directories for applications ? How does it know which apps to show a remote client etc ? Sorry if these are all obvious questions Thanks Andrew

redirect a COM port to the client
by Guest hmlcc- 1 reply

Hi, I have setup a terminal server and am not sure if there is a work around or 3rd party software that can be applied to resolve this issue. A client machine prior to setting up Terminla had a CRM software package that when you clicked on the click's phone number, would connect to the local 19200 baud modem on the COM port (COM 1). The telephone is also attached to the modem and the user would pick up the phone and the number auto dials for them. There was no TAPI configurations done...it is just a straight to COM port connection. We have moved this user to the new terminal server and they would like to have the ability to have the system auto dial f…

I have a server with a few applications currently running on it. I would like to install and activate this server as a terminal server. The machine is running Server 2003 Enterprise R2. When I install Terminal Server I am aware that it may break some of the applications already installed, does it only break those applications that are to be accessed through the new TS installation? or does it break all applications currenlty installed and running on the Server?

How-to? Configure wilcard (*.domain.com) for Windows Server 2003 TS?
by Guest Kirstin- 0 replies

I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 Terminal Server that I want to use with my wildcard certificate (*.domain.com) that was purchased through Comodo. The certificate request was originally completed through IIS 6.0 on my Exchange Server 2003 SP2, where I checked the option to use the Microsoft RSA/SChannel Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP). After receiving the certificate from Comodo, I exported the private key to a PKCS#12 file and included all certificates. Then I imported this PFX file into the Terminal Server's Personal certificate store under the Computer Account. Yet, when I attempt to select this certificate in the properties of the RDP-Tcp connectio…

Microsoft Windows Terminal Server User Accounts
by Guest Johnny ''Guitar'' Deane- 5 replies

We are running a windows 2003 server as a Terminal Server controlling remote desktop connection from remote sites. Users use the remote Desktop function to login to this server. Then they can run applications remotely eg Word , as a sort of thin client. We have a problem with one user account that fails to complete the logon process. IE launches 2 times and eventually the process fails. How can we remove this failing user account from this Terminal Server ? We do not know the process. What we want to do is delete the failing user's profile and log in again to recreate one. Can we do this ? How do we proceed? Thanks -- Thank You

Event IDs 1500 and 1508
by Guest Allan- 14 replies

W2K3 Standard Terminal Server with 4Gb Ram. Recently upgraded the accounting system. There are approximately 50 users. After the upgrade, aproximately the first 30 people can log in and the rest can not. Event ID 1500 and Event 1508 multiple times. "Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded..." I suspect that the 4Gb of RAM is not sufficient for 50 users. Does this sound right, or is something corrupted or hardware failure? If the problem is insufficent RAM, no hardware failure, or system corruption, can I upgrade the existing server to W2K3 Enterprise and add more RAM? If so, can I put the W2K3 Enterprise CD in and "Load on Top" …

SBC product + MS Terminal Service licensing questions
by Guest Shawn H- 3 replies

Hi guys, I'm rather new to Terminal Services, and I've just got some questions regarding the usage and licensing of Terminal Services for Windows Server 2003. First of, I'll start with a simple/stupid question. Q: If I use a third-party SBC product (e.g. 2X, Thinworx, etc...) which utilizes Windows TS, will I need to purchase TS CALs? Now for questions more specific to MS TS. Q: My understanding is that if I was to setup a terminal server on a Windows Server 2003 machine, I need to install the Terminal Server component, as well as the Terminal Server Licensing component? Q: After that, I'm required to purchase enough CALs (per device or per user), and…

Remote Desktop Session
by Guest rcir88- 4 replies

I have Windows 2003 Server, Standard Edition and frequently remote desktop into it to perform various tasks. I understand that if I wish to install certain programs and do some other tasks, I should be connected remotely in console mode. If I open the command prompt and enter “set”, I see that “SESSIONNAME=RDP-Tcp#13”. If I want to change to a console session as opposed to a virtual session, I’ve seen on the internet that I enter “mstsc /console” in the command prompt. How do I switch back to the virtual session and what are the advantages and disadvantages to connecting in either mode.

Guys, Have a real weird issue, hoping someone can help. We are building our TS servers using unattended.txt launched from within WinPE. As part of the build the C:\documents and settings folder is being moved onto the D:\. This being done using the microsoft supported method of : Use the /UNATTEND switch with Winnt.exe or Winnt32.exe and insert the following entry into the Unattend.txt file, where z:\foldername is the path and folder name you want: [GuiUNattended] ProfilesDir = z:\foldername This info is from http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=236621 In my case, ProfileDir=D:\Profiles The machine builds fine... however everytime someone log…

TS And HP LaserJet P1505 Printer - Redirection Does Not Work
by Guest Douglas Brantley- 0 replies

When connecting to a Windows Terminal Server using Remote Desktop Connection with printer redirection checked on, HP LaserJet P1505 printers do not work. I made sure the drivers on the Terminal Server and on the Local PCs were the extact same version number. I called HP Support. They told me this is known issue with TS and the LaserJet P1505. The support tech told me it was well documented in the support data base. Their recommended solution is to install the driver for the HP LaseJet 6L. I installed the drvers for the Hp LaserJet 6L and then installed the printer. It failed. We finally gave up and purhcased four HP LaerJet 1022 printers bec…
