We want to sync Blackberry devices to Outlook 2007 running on the server using Blackberry Desktop Manager while connected to the Terminal Server via RDC. Is this possible? How? The Blackberry Desktop Manager syncs when the Blackberry is directly connected to the server via USB. Environment: Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition Windows XP Pro Windows XP Home Windows Vista

Is there a way with RDP Client in Windows 2003 and Terminal Services for Windows 2003 to make the terminal services server restrict connections to only particular computers based on a certificate on the client as well as server? In other words I want both ends of connection to authenticate based on a certificate to prevent man in middle attacks as well as to authenticate the machine at the far end of connection. -- Will

I have a user who's trying to access our Terminal Services Server (Windows Server 2000) from home. Their computer is XP Home. When they try to connect they get an error telling them remote desktop cannot find the remote computer. I had them ping the computer name and they received replies. I had them check the exceptions on their firewall and Remote Desktop was checked. Suggestions?

Word macros and Terminal Server
by Guest Mario - Roma- 4 replies

I realize that my issue is related to unsupported applications, but I hope that somebody can help anyway. A Terminal Server is based on Windows Server 2003 and users access it via WAN. Remote users report that all the applications provide acceptable response time except Word 97 (!) macros. The same users report that sometimes they connect to the TS and get acceptable response times with Word 97 macros and other times they connect to the same TS and get very slow response times. If a session starts with a good/bad response time the response time remains the same for all the session. Is there anything I can check to investigate and, maybe, solve the problem…

Against our Citrix/Terminal Server OU is a GPO that sets the path for terminal services profile under the computer settings section. The problem is our administrator account picks up this setting and uses a TS profile. I dont want the admin to use this profile. Is it possible to write a WMI filter to not apply the GPO is it is the administrator who is loggging on? Or if anybody has any better suggestions?????

Login error for new user on Domain Controller TS
by Guest Marc S- 7 replies
I have two Terminal Servers. Both Windows 2003 Standard. One is also a DC. For a user, she can logon to the Terminal Server (non-DC) no problem. For other TS that is a DC, I have tried to log her on remotely for the first time, but when the user tries to access that server they get this error: "you must be granted the Allow logon through terminal services right. Members of the remote desktop users have this right." She is already a member of a domain-wide Security Group called Remote Users. 1. Do I need to log her on 1x locally at the DC Terminal Serverf? 2. Where is the built-in Remote Desktop Users Group on a DC. It's not listed under Computer Ma…

*.wav File Type - Can't Set to Sndrec32 for Terminal Server Users
by Guest Mike Schumann- 2 replies

Ever since the latest version of Windows Media Player was loaded on my Windows 2003 Terminal Server, I am having problems associating the *.wav file type with the sound recorder (sndrec32.exe) that comes standard with windows. I am running mandatory profiles for all of my users. I have tried the following: 1. Ran Windows Media Player as Admin in Install mode and deselected *.wav in the file associations box. 2. Deleted all user profiles in the control panel 3. Changed all the ntuser.man to ntuser.dat in the user profiles 4. Logged on as the user. Changed the file association for *.wav (I had to by right clicking on a *.wav file and using b…

Licensing
by Guest Marc S- 7 replies

If I have two Terminal Servers. Both Windows 2003 Standard. The Licensing Server is on a separate 3rd Server that is one of our Domain Controllers. If that Licensing Server is shut down for a while, and someone tries to log onto either of the Terminal Servers, what happens? 1. Are they temporarily issued a temporarily TS license? How long does that license last? 2. Even if the TS is set for "per Device" mode, can it allow 2 simultaneous connections like the Remote Desktop for Administrators...or are the two simultaneous ONLY for Remote Desktop for Administrators.

Issue - Printer resolving to inactive TS Port
by Guest jscorsone- 0 replies

Printer Redirection Question. We are running Business Server 2003 SP 2, and the client is running XP SP 2. The client was previously able to print using Terminal Services. The client CPU was replaced by a laptop. The correct driver for the printer was and still is loaded on the server. The correct driver for the printer was loaded on the laptop. WORKAROUND: Everytime the client logs in, I have to go into the server and manually switch the printer to the correct session, as it is resolving to an inactive TS port. Prints fine. While the workaround works, I'm seeking assistance with a solution. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Star TSP700 using terminal services
by Guest cityblm.is@gmail.com- 0 replies

We have three cash registers running IBS through terminal services. Each station has its own Star TSP700 thermal receipt printer attached locally to it. Each station connects to the server via terminal services. TS connects to the local printer which uses only the Generic Text driver. Each receipt prints fine, but we are having an issue: Each receipt that prints out is printing at the same length. The receipt for customers to sign the merchant's copy of the credit card receipt (just three inches long) is printing at about 5 or 6 inches. Any regular receipt with items on it also prints at that length. So, no matter what, same length. Anyone have any ideas?

My user directories are being created in C:\Documents and Settings when a new user connects to our Terminal Server 2003, but now I'm out of disk space on C: and can't conveniently add more. How can I get new users' directories to be created on another drive on this server? I have one with loads of space left. -- Art Cabot Director, Information Technology Sizemore, Inc.

Setup

I am having 4 Servers (DC, File Server, ISA and Exchange) about 10 users have to access the file server by TS. As I have never setup TS before, what is the right way to do it. Should I install the TS on the DC or on the File Server? Also what are the steps to do it and should I use Remote Desktop for the users to access the File Server or any other application? Also what is the easiest way to work for the users. If I send an email as an example, where Outlook is installed on the local machine and I have to attache and attachement from the server how do I do that? I know these are a lot of questions but I really would appreciate if someone could giv…

Migrate TS Licensing Server
by Guest DroolinDog- 1 reply

Hi all. Looking for a quick answer: I have a client with a Terminal Server with TS licensing installed on the TS itself. Because the TS is malfunctioning, we are replacing it, but before doing so we need to install TS Licensing on the domain controller and migrate the licenses. Can anyone tell me the easiest way to do this so as to ensure we don't lose the previously activated licenses? Thanks in advance! Jamie

Terminal Services Gateway Server dropping its SSL Certificate Mapp
by Guest Tom Hundley- 4 replies

I have installed Terminal Services Gateway on a Windows 2008 server. This server is running my "grunt" services such as being the domain controller, DNS, and is also running Certificate Services (configured as an Enterprise CA). I am running ISA Server 2006 on another machine. I had Gateway Services working great and then all off the sudden when I connected to the Gateway Services Manager it immediately dropped the mapping for the SSL certificate and broke the connections. Now, every time I map the certificate it accepts the configuration but when I refresh on the server it loses it's mapping, saying "xx is not yet fully configured as a TS Gateway se…

Clustered Session Broker
by Guest Eyal Weinreb (Pcentra)- 1 reply

Hi, In a previous post it was stated that in order to have a redundant session broker, the service needs to be installed on a cluster. And yet I found out today that the tssdis service won't start when the cluster service is started. It exits and the trace log states the following: NEW INSTANCE 4444: 20:26:54 INFO: Session Broker plugin is not registered 4444: 20:26:54 Unable to find the resource with service name tssdis When the cluster service is down, the tssdis service starts splendidly. Also there is no documentation on how to cluster the session broker on 2008 server. (What data needs to be replicated? How to redirect the database files to …

We are running applications developed in VB6 in a citrix environment. the apps also run locally from desktops. The citrix servers have never had a problem with recieving data from the barcode scanners on the client machines. But in our latest project, we are seeing PUZZLING problems in our testing. You propably dont need to be a guru in TS but I would think you need experience in setting up terminal services with clients that operrate USB devices. My problem is that in using the activex control supplied by motorola, we have to take it out of default mode and put it into a "USB OPOS Handheld" mode. when we go into "USB OPOS Handheld" mode, input from the…

Hi all, I have two remote PC's that log into our Work Domain. The Domain PC's are XP/SP2 and W2K3. One remote is XP x64/SP2 and the other is Vista Ultimate x64. Both used to work until I installed SP1 onto the Vista PC. Now when I logon to the Domain from the Vista PC using DomainName \UserName and Password I get the following error message. The credentials that were used to connect to [iPAddress] did not work. Please enter new credentials. The XP x64 PC can still login to the Work Domain PC's. Nothing is logged in either the Local or Remote PC's Event Viewer. Any help appreciated. TIA Greg

clipboard-mode file transfer in TS 2008 has changed?
by Guest Hong- 1 reply
Has the clipboard functionality regarding file transfer changed under Windows 2008? Under Windows 2003, an XP client with RDP 6 installed can *not* select a file in the remote desktop session, right-click and select 'Copy', and then back to local desktop, right-click somewhere (e.g. My Documents) and hit 'Paste'. In Server 2008, if you map your clipboard across but not any local drives, you *are* able to copy files using the steps above. Is there workaround to 'restore' the behaviour in Winddows 2003 so this clipboard-mode file transfer is prohibited, unless doing it manually (editing the file, copy the data, and then manually create a new file l…

Ports and more
by Guest Brad- 6 replies

I thank everyone for their help on this forum. Besides my LPT1: printing issue, we also have a Serial Port issue. We have a program that monitors Mocon units (burst testers) that should read the data from the testing unit and store it into a SQL server database table. The main program is a VB6 app, which hopefully soon, will be converted for a .Net environment. I am having the same issue with the Serial port. We test it on a standard PC and it works fine. When we plug it into a thin client, nothing happens. At least with my printing issue, I get a print error 482. Could this be a user policy issue coming from the Terminal Server. I have not yet l…

When the XP client fails it get the following message 'The remote session was disconnected because there were network problems durning the licensing protocol' I have checked the license server and there are plenty of licenses free.
