Migrate from local profiles to roaming profiles
by Guest jer- 0 replies

Hi! We have the need to migrate from local user profiles on a terminalserver to roaming user profiles. There are 1 existing terminalserver, and we have just set up 1 new (Citrix farm). I`ve tested on a pilot user, and did the following: -Set a profilepath on the AD-user (Terminal services profile path) -Logged on with that user on the old server and saw that the profile was saved to the central location -Logged on with that user to the new terminal server I then noticed that the Taskbar/Start-menu was placed in the default location at the bottom, on the old server it was placed at the right side. Also, the Favourites-folder wasn`t roaming/migrated. …

Using Windows Server 2008 TS User CALs
by Guest Glenn- 3 replies

Hi Guys, Just a quick question. I have just purchase a 5-pack of TS User CALs for Windows Server 2008 Std. I understand that i can use these with Windows Server 2003 Std, due to downgrade licensing. Can anyone confirm this? If so, is there anything in particular that I have to do in order to enable the 2008 TS User CALs so that they can be used with Windows Server 2003? Are there any side effects from doing this? Thanks in advance Glenn

Local profile issues
by Guest Ghealdan- 4 replies

We run a W2k3 Terminal server that has local profiles on it for each user. We recently moved all the profiles to another partition to free up some space on the C: drive. We then changed the default profile path in the registry and copied the contents of the documents and settings folder to the new documents and settings folder on the new partition. The question is we are having strange issues with some apps that are profile specific. After doing some digging we realized the the ntuser.dat files are still being used and updated by Windows in the old C:\documents and settings\network service and \localservice folders and not in the new location. I belie…

I log onto a terminal server with a Roaming Profile. There 3 computers people log onto to access this one program. There is a policy set so the user can't do basically anything but run the program and go into the printer settings. My question is when i'm in the terminal server and delete this printer, once I log off and then log back into the terminal server the printer is back. The printer that i'm deleting is no longer on the network nor installed on the computer it was locally hooked up to. I deleted the registry key which holds the printer setting and it comes back, once I log off and log back on. Basically any change that I make with in the terminal s…

Dual Monitor support, Windows 2003 Std, Win XP clients?
by Guest sandal- 5 replies

Can a Windows 2003 server offer dual monitor support for Windows XP or Vista remote pcs? I can't use Citrix at this time. Something really low cost might be an option. I am not sure what to make of the Mstsc /span option at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925876 I see that TS Client 6.0 is offered to me by Windows Update but I'm not sure if it's simply a replacement for the TS Client that my XP Pro came with, or something entirely new? Also Mstsc /span is for "monitor spanning", not really dual monitor support...tho I'm not sure what that amounts to? Some clients would need an ordinary single monitor RD session and some would need dual screen suppor…

Additional security for Remote Desktop
by Guest Baffledandconfused- 0 replies

Hi, In my office we have just started using remote desktop to log in to work from home (Win 2003 server). We log in using our network user name and password However, employees may be logging in from insecure computers and we are concerned at the risk of keylogging software. We want to have an additional password, of which the user will be prompted to enter 3 randomly chosen letters via drop down menus (like many banks do). How do we do this? I know there are various token-based solutions, but we really don't want to make people carry tokens. Any help gratefully received.

We have a new Windows 2003 domain server that is acting as a TS for remote access to our application. The app requires Microsoft Word. I believe that we will need a volume license for each of the remote connections, but we also have 4 local computers that are logging into the domain directly. will we need additional licenses for these computers? Thanks, Dan

We have a central domain controller (server 2003). With a separate SQL server (server 2003 x64) joined to domain. A new appliaction is being installed on the SQL box to be used remotely via Terminal Services, new server, 8 users. The users of Terminal services cannot have any access to any resource on the domain controller (Apart from authentication if needed), only the SQL on the second server. Could the terminal services be configured with Local user accounts and not joined to the domain? Totally standalone. But authentication issue might arise accessing the SQL server. don't want to have to duplicate accounts etc. Join the terminal services se…

I have a Small Business Server 2003 network with a Server 2003 Terminal Server member server. I have the Terminal Server licensing server installed on the SBS domain controller and it was activated there. I also installed 5 per user TS CALS on the SBS server through the Microsoft license clearing house. I have logged on to the Terminal Server several times during the configuration process as the domain administrator. I have used the SBS server, my notebook and a remote workstation to log on to the TS. In each instance, I logged on as the domain administrator I see that four temporary device licenses have been issued that expire June 8. I am confus…

Hi, We have a head office and 80 branch offices. On the head office we implemented a terminalserver loadbalancing farm. We also implemented packeteer which manages bandwith on the branch offices. Problem is the following: If users browse on the internet we see the bandwith of the branch location rise sky high and at that moment working on the location is very slow. Is there some hardware appliance or software to manage this internet traffic for the locations? Thx,. Ramon

1508 error for just one user
by Guest ChipAdmin- 2 replies

I am having a problem with just one user on my Terminal Server. We are currently running about 15 people on a TS box (4 GB Memory 2 dual core Xeon) as a test for an eventual 150 person company. Most people are using HP Thin Clients. I have one user who keeps getting the 1508, 1502, 1515 and 1511 error messages when he attempts to log on. I have downloaded and am running as a service the UPHClean program. The problem is that when the user gets this error, UPHClean doesn't seem to do anything even though it is running until I restart the service then it unloads two user profile hives and then the user can sign on as normal. Two questions: 1) Is the…

I am setting up Terminal Server for one of my client, however, I haven't done that before. Connectivity is already there and we are coming in by ISA to our servers. The question is what is the best application for the client to access Terminal server? Do I simply use remote Desktop or should I use another Windows Application or even a thirth party application? Thank you for your input.

I installed a terminal server (member server) on a SBS network and am now getting the following pop up on the desktops: "Your terminal services temporary client license will expire in 7 days. Please contact your system administrator to get a permanent license." Is this anything that I need to worry about? Will the permanent licenses start working without having to do anything? If there is something I need to do, what is it? Help!

Backup Group Policy Locked Down terminal Server
by Guest Rick31la- 1 reply

We have a Windows 2003 terminal server that is locked down with Group Policy. The server is locked down so any user that logs in gets policy applied. (Computer Group Policy). The problem is the administrator account also gets locked down and NTBackup does not run. Is there a way to remove the administrator from having group policy applied or is there any other method to create a daily backup of the server without removing from policy first?

Hi. Our older clients--Win 9.x PCs and CE<4.0 thin clients--timeout when trying to connect to a Windows 2003 Terminal Server. When DNS is disabled and they are given a static IP, Subnet, and Gateway, they connect fine. DHCP is handled by Windows 2000 Domain Controllers. AD and DNS are installed on a Windows 2000 Server. I'm not sure where to start with this...

TS Licensing....Confused
by Guest nick- 4 replies

Here's my dilemma.... We have a Win2K TS which has about 5 people connected at any one given time. I get a message stating that I am about to exceed my maximum concurrent connections. However, how do I tell how many TS licenses I have? I went into "licensing" in admin. tools on that particular server. I don't see anything specifically related to TS licensing. Any help for the clueless?
