Windows 2008 Network Level Authentication
by Guest Doug Murphy- 2 replies

Ok, I have read all the threads about CredSSP and XP clients, and have even tested the change sucessfully. My issue is a little broader, however: I have 4,000+ users, with a mix of XP and Vista (probably) that need to access , consistently, a 4 server farm that consists of 2 physical servers and 2 VMs under Hyper-V (these are on another server). All 4 are Windows Server 2008. This is working just fine using a CoyotePoint Equalizer as a hardware load balancer. However, these servers are in a Windows 2003 domain, and we have no plans to change that in the near future. I have no control over the bulk of the remote users, as they are home systems or belo…

TS RAP - AD group & FQDN
by Guest Andrew Meinert- 4 replies

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731435.aspx That indicates that with an AD security group, both FQDN and NetBios names will pass the connection policy. I have a bunch of desktops in a security grup and have selected it within TS Gateway. This is the only enabled policy. If I connect to a computer using the netbios name, fine. If it merely append the domain name, I am rejected by the RAP. If I switch to all network resources in the RAP, I can connect using both. Has anyone else encountred the same thing?

We host our applications on terminal server and implement a customized html page that uses the MSRDP ActiveX control. The problem that we have is with clients complaining that when they open another link on their workstation, the IE window with our TS session surrenders control and allows navigation away. I know the recommended solution is to uncheck the "reuse windows for launching shortcuts" or the similar settings for tabbed browsers. The problems with this is at some larger clients their domain Group Policies restore the settings so the clients have to repeat it every day and sometimes multiple times throughout the day. We looked into handling t…

Help with IE7 Tabs Server 2003x64 R2
by Guest rjcmi- 1 reply

I am running Terminal Server under Windows Server 2003x64 R2. The individual users are not able to used tabbed browsing in their sessions. I have looked though the GPO for the individual units but can not locate the setting to enable tabs. Do I need to install a separate administrative template? If I go into the individual user setting, tabs are enabled, but it makes no difference. I'm still pretty new to this system so any help would be appreciated.

Access error in Terminal Server
by Guest CCripe- 1 reply

In an Access 2003 database, there is a macro that captures the user's environ name and inserts it in a field. To make this work, the user must go into Macro=>Security and set the security level to low. This works fine everywhere but TS. If you set the macro security to low on TS, the function works for a day or so, then it stops working and you get this error: "The expression you entered has a function name that (database name) can't find." If they go in and tell it AGAIN to set the macro security to low in Access, it will work for awhile and then stops. It doesn't seem to matter what rights the person has; Administrator, Power User, etc. All …

VPN Connections to TS server
by Guest SJMP- 1 reply

Terminal Server 2003. I have routing and remote access configured. I see the users connect to the server. But when I try to make a remote access connection back to their machine the entire connection including the client (remote) machine gets hung. I disconnect the session from the routing and remote access console, but the remote machine gets hung. The remote machine is running Vista SP1. The problem is only on this 1 remote access server (TermServer). My old TS running windows 2003 sp2 can make the connection fine. Any idea? Thanks, SJMP

Windows Desktop Search on Terminal Servers
by Guest Cary Shultz- 4 replies

Good morning! I wanted to ask what the general consensus is with respect to deploying the 'latest and greatest' Windows Desktop Search software running on Terminal Server. Just to be clear - my opinion is that it really affects performance (in a negative way). Assuming that others have the same opinion is there anything that can be done (outside of removing it...). Thanks, Cary

Printing - Terminal Server 2003 - remote locations
by Guest Cary Shultz- 4 replies

Good evening! Okay - this question is a bit involved: I will try to keep it to the facts! Physical Locations: Co-lo: two WIN2003 SP2 ENTERPRISE Terminal Servers; Exchange 2003 Server; WIN2003 SP2 File Server HQ: 25 users, one Member Server / Print Server....six shared Printers ORD1: seven users, one Printer (shared on HQ server) ATL1: four users, one Printer (shared on HQ server) five various sites....three or four users per site There is a SonicWall Firewall-to-Firewall VPN between each of the locations and "HQ" as well as between each of the locations and "Co-Lo". So, getting from "A" to "B" is not a problem. Sample situation: There a…

Licensing Questions
by Guest Hemmy- 3 replies
Hi; Either Terminal Server licensing can be a little confusing or I'm not as bright as I think I am (no comments necessary). Q. Is it correct to say that that a Win2003 TS can either be in USER or DEVICE cal licensing mode? Q. If I use USER cals, that means a single user can logon to the TS from any machine (office PC, home PC, laptop, etc) and only consume one cal? Q. If I use USER cals, and a user logins in 2 times concurrently, I assume that consumes TWO cals? Q. Can DEVICE cals be converted to USER cals? Q. Scenario: A user has a machine with dual monitors and has TWO TS sessions going (one on each monitor). Does that consume 2 USER …

folder redirection and doubing up of folders in user folder
by Guest anthonyx26- 1 reply

Server: TS Windows Server 2008 I set GPOs for folder redirection but when the user logs in and opens up his user folder, it shows all the folders in double. E.g., there are two "documents" folders. One has the regular folder look (it points to c:\users\%username%\documents) and the other has the green windows standard folder...and it points to the redirected folder location on the network (ie \\server\redirects\%username%\documents). I've added a "rmdir" to the login script to automatically delete the local C: drive fodlers, but it seems odd that I should have to do this. Is there a more official way to make this happen without resorting to my "dele…

RDP Sound skipping
by Guest Gretchen Hembree- 3 replies

I have successfully set up sound through my RDP session. My problem now is that the sound is skipping. I have tried a few tests with sound through IE or sound actually stored on the server HD. Both skip. When you log into the RDP (and have Windows default sound activated) the start up sound does not appear to skip. I am wondering if this is a setting that can be worked on or if it is based on the physical internet connection. I am trying this from a remote site. I haven't gone to the physical location of the server to test an RDP connection from that office. IE has always been a bit slower through RDP than on your local desktop. Is there…

Hello everyone, I'm curious to know if anyone is running there 2003 terminal servers in a virtual environment. I currently only have 50 users split between two 2003 TS. I have been debating on going virtual, but don't want to lose on performance. The driving force is going green. Thanks for any feedback.

Problem with Win 2008 TS Easy Print
by Guest Trygve Lorentzen- 1 reply

Hi, we have serious issue with the new feature "Easy Print" in 2008 server. The problem is that the physical margins of the local/client printers are not carried over to the easy print driver on the TS. This is not a big issue with all software that has a proper page setup dialogue with settings for all 4 margins. The problem arises with software that depends on the physical margins set in the print driver to place the print correctly. Is there any settings for this? Like "Use physical margins from printer driver", somewhere in registry perhaps, or in a settings file. I have spent a few days trying to make this work and I'm running out of ideas... Mayb…
