Terminal Server with 2 NIC's
by Guest TR- 9 replies

Hello, I have a member server on a SBS 2003 network that is a terminal server. I added a second network card to the Terminal Server and purchased a public IP so that our remote employees can log into it from the internet on this second network card without having to create a VPN through our SBS server and generate more traffic on our internal network. When I configure the second NIC with the public ip and try to input the Default Gateway that was provided to me by my ISP, i get the error: Warning - Multiple default gateways are intended to provide redundancy to a single network(such as an intranet or internet). They will not fumction properly when the…

Hi Here is the description of the problem: Installed MS office 2003 on Terminal Server using MST designed to allow auto-generation of the outlook profile whenever new user logs on. Default profile was overwritten with new default profile AFTER the above was done, now auto-generation of outlook no longer works and we have to define exchange server and user name every time a new user needs to logon. Here is what has been done to try and rectify: Uninstalled Microsoft office, overwrote default user profile one more time and reinstalled Office using newly regenerated MST- did not work Here is installation command for office: \\ufpasrv02\si\office2003\setup…

GP/OU Problem/Question
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 9 replies

In a VirtualPC setup (test lab), I am using Windows 2003 Server as a DC and a separate Windows 2003 member server as the TS. I am having a problem getting any Group Policy changes to take effect for an XP Pro client that logs into the TS --using what I thought was the proper method of setting this up. Here are my notes on what I have done so far: 1. Create OU & GPO for the TS: a. In AD of DC, create an OU called: 'Terminal Servers' b. Move TS machine into this OU. c. Right click 'Terminal Servers' OU, and go to properties. Click on GP tab d. Click 'New' and name GP (ex, TS Users GP) 2. Create TestUser(s) in AD: a. Create username/password (ex., Test…

Win2K TS's can't connect to Win2k3 license server in remote subnet
by Guest Mizzleman- 9 replies
Hello, I have 3 Win2k TS's that can cannot connect to a Win2k3 license server in a remote subnet, same domain. It was working fine until yesterday. I have not changed anything on the servers. Some patches were installed on 7/13/2007. I have set the default license server registry key for the license server. I ran a protocol analyzer when I run the TS Licensing tool on the TS as it tries to find the license server. After looking throught the analysis, it shows the LDAP query and getting the license server info, but the TS still can't connect to it. What is going on? This is a major production outage so a quick response is appreciated. Thanks.

general questions on Remote Desktop (XP Pro)
by Guest ginahoy- 9 replies

I will soon upgrade from WinME to XP. I was reviewing list of differences between Home and Pro. One utility that caught my attention was Remote Desktop. When traveling, I sometimes wish I had access to a file on my home system. I have some general questions about Remote Desktop: 1) Let's say I'm using a computer at an Internet Cafe. Does that computer have to have special software or be running XP Pro? 2) Is it necessary to pay my ISP for a static IP? (e.g., how can I locate my computer via the Internet?) 3) Do I have to leave my system running, or can I use a LAN card with wake-on-lan feature? Thanks!

passing local printers through remote desktop
by Guest Thomas Juracek- 9 replies
I cannot get local printers to pass through a remote desktop session unless (I surmise) the non-routable IP networks are the same. Is there a way around this, or do I need to configure all my domains with the same non-routable IP address scheme to allow a local printer to be used in a RDP session? The same prohibition appears to apply to the copy/paste commands when applied at the file level. Thank you for you help. -- Tom Juracek

msrcincident files

Hello, Does someone know where to find some references about the generation of a msrcincident file ? I wrote a little tool for my collegues to change the IP address to the correct public IP (and the port) in this file but they still have to use the wizard to generate the file as I don't know how to calculate the first key in RCTICKET element and the PassStub Attribute in the RCTICKETENCRYPTED element. Thanks. -- Fred http://www.cerber mail.com/?3kA6ftaCvT (enlever l'espace)

One minute log off time
by Guest Neal- 9 replies
We have a new Citrix farm built on W2003 SP2. When users log off, it takes about two seconds to copy their profile, and a second or two to save settings. Then they have one minute to sit there and wait till the session finishese. We've tried new profiles, Admistrators and users (to see if it is permissions related) etc. Tried everything. Have insatlled all the patches we can find that are related (and some that aren't) Hive cleanup etc. Only clue I can give, is that if I log on via TS to the console, it takes about three seconds to log off. Same user in a normal session, one minute to log off. Any ideas? thanks, Neal

Disconnecting & Forcing Logoff
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 9 replies

1. Is there a way to disable a user's ability to disconnect (using the X on the RDP connection) from a session and to force them to logoff without following this procedure below: http://terminal.servebeer.com/php/x_box_disable.php For instance, can the "X" be disabled or if they click it, can their session be "instantly" reconnected. 2. In our particular situation, our Terminal Server users (note, we have 1 generic user account/machine that need identical settings) & they do not need to use their local XP workstation for anything else. Currently, if they have to reboot their workstations, they get the CTRL +ALT+DEL to login to the domain. Once they log…

Restrict to 1 program
by Guest Joe Letter- 9 replies

Hello, I have a win2k3 server setup as a terminal server. I have one application I would like the users to have access to. I've heard that it is possible to restrict TS so that an application starts automatically when the users login. They only have access to that program during the session and if they close the program, the TS session ends. How can this be done? Is there something step-by-step I could follow? Also, how can the be done so that I can still login remotely with the admin account and not have this restriction on my account. Thanks much! Joe.

Printers Not Transferring Over for One Client
by Guest razor- 9 replies
Hello-- We have gone into a partnership with another company that needs to access a Terminal Server on our network and then print back to their local printers. We do it here with our two remote offices on separate subnets, but for some reason it won't work with our partner. When we try to manually add a printer from the remote session logged on as the client, the "drop-down list" does not even show their TS session. We are speculating that there is a limitation on their firewall, but we are not sure. As I mentioned, we remote in from other locations and it works. Both our network and our partner's are running Windows 2003. Many thanks, sd

Are there any TS CALs that come with Windows Server 2003?
by Guest Joe Murphy- 9 replies
I'm looking to add 5 CALs to my TS and when I go into the TS Licensing utility, I see my DC (which is the only TS server in my environment) and it reads Product: Existing Windows 2000 Server - Terminal Services CAL Token (per device) Type: Built-in Total: Unlimited Available: Unlimited Issued: 0 So, what does this mean? I have unlimited TS CALs? (I don't think so.) Is there a number of CALs that come with Windows Server? I don't want to purchase TS CALs that I don't need. Right now we are using Remote Desktop for Administration, which allows just two concurrent connections. Do I need to uninstall that before bringing up TS? How does the OS diff…

64bit Windows 2008 Terminal Services and printing
by Guest Alex- 9 replies

Does anyone know whether we should expect to run into printer driver issues when connecting a 32bit Windows client PC to a 64bit Windows 2008 Terminal Server? I assume that the 64bit Windows 2008 Server machine will need to have 64bit printer drivers installed. But will the old 32bit printer drivers installed on our client PCs work or must some kind of update be done? Thank you! ---Alex

File Type Associations W2K3
by Guest Garrett1226- 9 replies
I am having a terrible time trying to resolve an issue that is braking many of the applications I am serving up to users inside their Remote Desktop session on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server.... File Type associations for certain extensions show up as "unknown" under certain user profiles, even though the server has valid associations already for apps. Seems like, if a user logs into TS from a machine that has never seem an infopath form before and does not know where to associate an XML file to, the profile will not capture the default association from the server and leaves it as an unknown. This is happening for another file type as well, .TIFF. The …

I have set up the License Server Security Group setting on my Terminal Server Licensing Server which is running Windows 2003. The majority of the time it works fine, however, if there is a power outage, I get the following error message in the System Log: --------------------------------------- Event Type: Error Event Source: TermServLicensing Event Category: None Event ID: 45 Date: 8/10/2007 Time: 11:57:56 AM User: N/A Computer: Description: A license could not be issued to XX.XX.XX.XX because it is not a member of the Terminal Server Computers group. Quad or Dual Core CPUs??
by Guest Hank Arnold (MVP)- 8 replies

I will be ordering two new servers for a new/replacement farm. It will be running Windows 2003, PS 4.5, have50 concurrent licenses (our peak seems to be around 35 concurrent users). We will run Office 2003 (including Outlook), a database client (Misys HomeCare) and Corel WordPerfect Office 2000 (mostly legacy files). I'd appreciate opinions on whether it makes more sense to get 2 Quad core CPUs or Dual core CPUs.... -- Regards, Hank Arnold Microsoft MVP Windows Server - Directory Services

I've been using Terminal Server recently for many of my accounting software clients. I am using Adagio accounting software from Softrak Systems of Vancouver http://www.softrak.com I love the idea of using Terminal Services but am encountering the following printing problem: My client is using Adagio and I moved them over to a Terminal Server environment within the last 3 months. They are a heavy Order Entry user and we moved to Terminal Server to get the speed and performance of Adagio up. I have a fair number of clients running Terminal Server with Adagio, but this one is by far the highest volume with Order Entry transactions. When logging into terminal…
