Folder Redirection of Start Menu on Win 2003 not happening
by Guest Sandy Wood- 4 replies
I've put together a new Win 2003 TS and have just configured Folder Redirection for a Start Menu. On my TS, I created a folder on the D: drive called TSmenu and copied the shortcuts for Word 2007 and Outlook 2007 from the All Users profile. I configured the Start Menu setting as "Basic - Redirect everyone's folder to the same location". The Target folder location is set to "Redirect to the following location" and the Root Path is \\myserver\TSmenu, which is shared with the share defaults. When I login with a test user account, nothing changes, when I click Programs is still see IE, Outlook Express, Remote Assistance, Accessories and Startup. No trace o…

by Guest Kent- 1 reply

We have locked down our workstations (Hide c:, no cmd, no regedit,) and My documents redirected to the users home. In server 2008 and terminal services all these are ignored. What is the best way to get this done. We would like to see the same lockdown and folder redirection done by our DC's for our XP pro clients translate into TS/s on 2008. Lots of problems for example in 2008 there is no "My Documets" just Username. Kent

Terminal server Profile folders
by Guest SPP-IT- 2 replies

When a new user is created we add under terminla server profile in AD the path to the location we store all are users profiles. \\Servername\profiles\username what is happening, when the folder for the user is created it is not inherating permisions from the parent folder. This is not a problem for the domain admins, but we have Help Desk Techs who are a member of a Group and we have added them to the profiles folder with modify permisions, since the folders do not inherat the perminsion we need to go in manually and check this option. I have two questions. 1) is this because the System Account is creating the folder and by design does not check the opti…

Disable (Remove) the RDP Audio driver?
by Guest rmeechan@kpttest.com- 2 replies
Hi All, I am running into issues with our terminal server - we need to use an application that keeps crashing due to the virtual sound driver and currently there is no solution. Is there anyway to remove the RDP audio driver from TS so that each user session has no sound card installed? Changing the settings No audio, Redirect audio to remote/ local etc always has the RDP audio driver enabled for the user session. I'm just looking for some dirty way to remove it such as the audio redirector DLL's or something? I really need to get this application working in TS and currently the developers of the app have no solution nor a future fix as far as I know... …

RDP / Terminal Services / Mandatory Profiles
by Guest Glenn- 7 replies

I have users that connect to a Citrix environment and use the Terminal Server tab on the AD User Properties to setup thier profile. Now a couple of these users need to connect to a Windows Server 2003 R2 (64bit) to run some processes using Remote Desktop (RDP). The problem is that thier profile for the Citrix servers get loaded as a mandatory profile on the server. I want them to get a local profile and ignore the other settings. I have looked at GP and Local Security settings without any success. There are a some settings under Computer>Admin>Profiles>Windows>Terminal Services>Profiles I tried but did not work. Thanks, -- Glenn…

RDP fails with "This computer can't connect to the remote computer" with no Terminal Services error indication Has anyone else experienced the following problem with a Remote Desktop Connection to a Windows Server 2003 SE SP2 with all current High Priority and Optional updates applied? Any suggestions? The following is displayed in a critical error pop-up dialog box: Remote Desktop Disconnected This computer can't connect to the remote computer. The connection was lost due to a network error. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact your network administrator or technical support. The error occurs regardless if the conn…

Creating a custom Start Menu on Win2003 TS
by Guest Sandy Wood- 13 replies
I'm working through creating a custom Start Menu for my Win2003 TS users. I copied some shortcuts to a folder on the TS, on D:\custommenu. I'm looking to create a Group Policy to redirect the Start Menu folders. I've experimented with the various options in Folder Redirection and can't settle on what's suitable for my situation. All my TS users will be using local polices, no roaming. I'd like them to see my custom Start Menu and would like the policy not to apply to Domain Admins. I thought I could apply the Deny options for Admins in the Delegation tab of the policy so Admins would see the default menu. Does this look like it will work? -- Sandy Wood …

We have a Domain controller at a Corporate office that is Windows 2008. In satellite offices we have Windows 2003 TS's the aren't on the domain but part of a workgroup. We need the ability to connect up to 5 users to each satellite TS at a time. We bought 40 WIndows 2008 TS CALS, and are now thinking that we should have bought 8 five packs of Windows 2003 TS Cals instead. Is there any way to effectively and legally use the WIndows 2008 TS Cals for these 8 Windwos 2003 TS's that are remote on their own Workgroups? Can the 2008 DC handle licensing for these satellite workgroups? Is it a license vioation to use the 2008 TS Cals on 2003 TS servers?

OT: UPS WorldShip on 2000 TS?
by Guest Gregg Hill- 1 reply
Hello! If UPS WorldShip is installed as a "LAN Administrative Workstation" on XP Pro and has "Remote Workstations" enabled, then other XP workstations installed as "LAN Remote Workstations" can access the LAN Admin station's UPS database. What I want to do is have the 2000 TS be one of the LAN Remote stations. While UPS claims installing it as a LAN Remote station on a terminal server is officially unsupported and has no documents on it, they told me that some people have successfully installed it as a client on a terminal server. So, is anyone out there knowledgeable about how to have the 2000 TS be one of the LAN Remote stations, and especially, …

TS 2003 Window Display Issue
by Guest CLJones- 2 replies
Hello everyone, I'm new here & have found Microsoft forums are the best place to get help with problems that really stump me. Basically, we have a TS set up on server 2003 (sorry, I know this is a 2008 forum), but the principles should generally be the same. Our users, when they log in, have a clock program that sometimes disappears off the screen & is no longer visible, yet is still running. This program is only displayed in the system tray as there is nothing in the task bar. When you right click on the program, you are given no move option (nor when you right click on the system tray icon). My thoughts on solving this problem were to wr…

Hi There, I have 2 questions regarding Windows 2008 Web TS I have configured web ts and it all appears to be working, when I login within the network I am not prompted for login credentials to display the webpart containing the remoteapps but I do receive a request for login credentials when I try to launch one of the remoteapps. When login in remotely I get the first login, for which I provide my domain credentials to display my RemoteApps web page as I would expect but I will then be asked to provide further credentials when I try to launch one of the applications. How do I stop this second login? Question 2; Is there any way or removing the re…

Poor performance from thin clients
by Guest Greg PPI- 2 replies

I have a 2003 standard server running terminal services in application mode that has been in place for about 3 years. In the past week or so the client has been complaining of poor performance, laggy screen display, etc. This is only happening from sessions initiated on a thin client, sessions using a PC and Remote Desktop Connection software are fine. This appears to be sporadic and can be temporarily resolved by either rebooting the thin clients with the issue, or in at least a few instances, rebooting the network switch the thin clients are connect via. Performance stats on the terminal server look fine, very low CPU usage, plenty of available m…

I'm trying to install an Access 2007 package on a Terminal Server 2003. I can install the same package on all other computers and servers in the Domain, but not the server running Terminal Services. I get the error "Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remover Programs on the Control Panel." I've tried uninstalling Access Runtime which installed on a previous install and it still gives the same error. The main difference between this version and a previous package that worked is now this version uses ADO to access SQL Serv…

64-bit Server - Outlook Configuration Problem
by Guest Denis- 0 replies
We are using Windows Server 2003 R2 64-bit Enterprise Edition. It is our Terminal Server. We are not able to configure Outlook Profiles. Right-click on the Outlook Icon in Start Menu shows only 3 options - Read Mails, Internet Properties and Remove from the list. Access to Control Panel have been restricted, so users cannot access "Mail" control panel applet in "View x86 Control Panel Icons". How can I enable the "Outlook Properties" option in Start menu? Or how can I enable the "Mail" icon to be shown directly in "Control Panel" rather than in "View x86 Control Panel Icons"? Thanks in Advance. Best Regards, Denis Dudhia

Disable sound in RDP not working
by Guest Chris- 4 replies

OK I have a TS 2008 server setup. GPEDIT I disable sound in TS. In terminal services config I disable redirection of sound. On the clients I disable redirection of sound. The server doesn't even have a sound card in it. What I get is the old PC speaker BEEP whenever a user clicks on confirmations like when they are printing. I even disabled PC speaker in the server and the remote workstation, it still beeps. Anyone have any ideas? Second question is printing from the server. IF they select extra copies of a print job they get multiples. Like if they was 2 copies, they get 4. Or if they want 3 copies they get 6. Any printer, any software. Seems like the T…
