GPO

I have created a new Group Policy for Terminal Service users. I have removed the Shut Down, Control Panel, Network Connections, Run and most of the programs that are not necessary for the user. However, I still have the Command Prompt, Administrative Tools, Manage Your Server and certain items in Windows Security (Task Manager, Lock Computer and Change Password). Please point me in the right direction to eliminate these items from a Terminal Services user. Thank you. Al

Folder Redirection - Start Menu Question
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 3 replies
We are setting up a standardized Start Menu for our TS USers and have a redirected folder for this purpose. However, if through a GPO we allow the "All Programs" list to be viewed the TS Users end up with what is in the "All Users" profile as well as what we give them. Besides deleting what is in the Start Menu of the "All Users" profile, like we did with the Desktop icons, is there another way to give the same Start Menu to the TS Users? Thanks

Strange printing issue
by Guest fungbar- 0 replies
I have the most frustrating printing issue ever. I have an SBS 2003 Premium network with a terminal server for remote users [server is 2003 r2] . Remote printers were working perfectly lexmark e332n and Canon MF5700 but the motherboard died and i replaced the system. Since the rebuild of the system client printers are not connecting. The weird thing is lpt printers will connect, networked printers will not. The other strange thing is that remote printing will work until their machine is joined to the domain, once joined, client printers will not connect. The drivers are installed on the server and on the client machines. I have rebuilt a new machine that was pre…

Mixed 64bit and 32bit terminal server farm with roaming profiles

Hi, a part of our large citrix farm shall run in 64bit 2003 soon. Some Apllications will be hosted on 32 bit servers, other on 64 bit servers. I read that there could be problems with the roaming profiles, because of the registry and file redirector in x64 Win, but the info was pretty thin. Has anybody first hand experience with that? Or more detailed information about the problem? Thanks and best regards, robert

Hyper Terminal
by Guest Guy- 1 reply

Hello, I am sorry if this a newbie kind of question. But I have just installed Server 2003 R2 O/S that I have got with my book for taking the 70-290 exam, so I am very new to the Server 2003 O/S. I am wanting to wanting to setup a new Cisco switch that I have bought, and I will be using the 2003 server to do this. It sounds really silly but I can not find Hyper Terminal anywhere on Server 2003. I have used a desktop with XP Pro to hypertrm and it connects fine to the switch, so I just need to find it on Server 2003. Any ideas???? Thanks Guy

Real Player in a TS Environment

I have three w2003 standard R2 servers running citrix xpe in my farm. Originally I built them in an NT 4 environment and I avoided using real player \media player on the servers. I have users requesting that we install real player to run a CBT course on the system. Can anyone tell me if it is practical to use real player in the w2003\citrix TS environment and if so which version runs best? I would appreciate guidance. Thanks ed

TS 2k Printing Problem
by Guest Steve in Albury- 2 replies

I have a win2k Terminal Server with 30 thin clients, and 12 network printers. It has hardware on a local LAN and two remote WAN sites. Just recently I have developed a printing problem. When printing to the remote WAN printers, the printed page gets cut short. When I use Word to print a page of text with a box around the outside, I only get the top half (about) of the page printed. The printers don't show any problem, but the TS shows a printer job timeout, and I get the option to retry or cancel the print. This has been working for 1 year+, and the problem just started a couple of weeks ago. It doesn't happen on the LAN printers. It doesn't always …

RDP sessions broken
by Guest AndiK- 1 reply

We have 5 Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition in a wlbs cluster with clustered session directory serving about 250 users with thin clients. Each Server has to network interfaces, one inside the wlbs cluster, the other intended for backend traffic. Most of the thin clients are Wyse Thin OS devices (S10 and Winterm 1200LE) with "legacy" rdp clients. Clients and Servers are on our inhouse LAN (Cisco switches 1GBit/s Backbone, 100MBit/s at the client side). Some users with that Wyse Thin Clients experience suddenly broken rdp connections, sometimes only once or twice a day, on other days 3 or four times in 5 minutes. I suppose that some users, even though …

Re: Installing TS After The Fact...

Re: Installing TS After The Fact... So for the applications that you don't re-install after the TS installation, they will only function properly for one user? What will prevent those applications from opening and being used by multiple users? Also, does the same problem occur in the reverse scenario? In other words, if I were to uninstall TS after installing several other applications, will those programs need to be re-installed? I have TS Web Access set up in Win2008 without a gateway. The client is WinXP with: - SP2 - IE7 - "Remote Desktop Connection 9 for WindowsXP-KB925876-x86-ENU.exe" installed - On the same subnet and domain as the server. I am able to run an application using an rdp created for that app. But when I browse to the server using IE, I get the TS Web Access page with everything except the area where the application icons are supposed to display has the error, "ActiveX control not installed or not enabled". The server is in my Trusted Sites zone and everything is set to either Enable or Prompt. There is no yellow bar either. Other trusted sites install t…

A new client has server 2003 and wants to use Terminal Server in Remote Administration mode. Previously the server was set up in application mode but without Terminal Server licensing installed. Now, whenever he connects to the server remotely, he gets the message "no licensing server found, etc.". How can I make this stop. One remote administration login is all he needs. I need to make the application mode go away. How? Jim Sheehy jsheehy@seqdatsys.com

RDP Printing at home
by Guest Dellboy- 5 replies
I have a Win2003 terminal Server with 70 clients, mostly windows 2000/XP/Vista, some macs. Most users work from home at one time or another and want to be able to print to their local printer, which could be almost anything from the local shop. Home printing (per TS2003 native rdp printing) works on some PCs and not other clients, depending on the local printer attached to the PC. I find the fallback printer drivers have never worked for my clients. I know there are third party tools to allow "seamless" printing to local printers, no matter what they are. Two that come to mind are Thinprint .print and Tricerat Screwdrivers. I looked into these about a …

Monitor TSadmin
by Guest Richie- 0 replies
Hi all! I wish to monitor the usage of TSadmin, particularly the use of shadowing terminal server sessions in 2003 server. I found an article which shown explained to have terminal services write event log entries to the security log when ever a shadow (remote control in TSadmin) was started and ended but this was related to windows server 2000 and doesn't work for 2003. I want an event log entry added when ever a session is shadowed and when the shadow is ended. Here is the windows 2000 KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893368. Any help any one could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hey there, I have a some what odd question. I have several client computers about 15 that I would like to see in real time on my local workstation. I understand you can do this with Apple's Remote Desktop 3 but I know it has been done in windows before. I have see it (or at least I thought I did) Also the site that I was at had login procedures - IE, A single workstation had a layout of the room with the computers organized and when clicked you could Lock, Login, or Logout of the computer that was in use at that desk in the room. I hope all of this makes sense I would really appreciate it if anyone had any idea how to do any of this. Thanks so much! - Kevin …

Printing showing blank pages
by Guest JAR- 1 reply

One of our customers has several T.S. servers which are also Citrix servers, but this problem occurs even just using Remote Desktop to the server(s). 64 bit Windows 2003. When a normal user tries to print (or uses print preview) via Internet Explorer they just get the header/footer but the page itself is blank. If an administrator then logs on to the server and tries the same thing, even the same web page, it works OK. THEN, when the original user tries again it now works OK. It is then OK until the server is restarted and the same problem occurs. There are no errors appearing so nothing to suggest where the problem is. Any advice is welcome. T…
