Hello, sorry for my bad English. I hope you will understand me. My customer have two servers. One Fileserver (Windows 2003 SB) and one Terminal Server (Windows 2003 Standard). The installed applications on the terminal server uses a SQL-server (on the fileserver). The problem: When the users don't work for 20 minutes (ore more) and the session is still active, the connection between the applications and the sql-server will be lost. drivers and windows updates are on both server up to date. In the event viewer is nothing protocolled.. Any idea? Thanks!

W2KTerminalServer\VistaHomePremium
by Guest gh- 6 replies

I have a W2K server setup with terminal services. The users have been using RDP with XP Professional and Vista Business for the past year, to connect to this server. We have a new machine (HP) that came with Vista Home Premium on it. The user has been using RDP to access the terminal server without any problems until a couple of weeks ago, they updated Vista and whenever they would access the TS, they would get a message that the TS License was going to expire in X number of days. The license has expired and I checked the TS event log and it reads "The Terminal Server cannot issue a client license." The Vista machine displays a message "The remote co…

Disabling "Server Properties" for Printers
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 2 replies

We use Group policy to enforce restrictions for our Terminal Server users. When connected to the TS, they have a Start Menu that includes the "Printers & Faxes" link. When that link opens, it displays the "Server Properties" on the left hand side -along with the Help Section, Scanner & Cameras, etc - which we would like to remove or disable. We cannot find reference to this in the Group Policy -either User or Computer Configuration sections. How can we remove or disable these items? thanks!

Problem setting up Brokered load balancing
by Guest Casey- 2 replies

I currently have 2 terminal servers, and a seperate server acting as the session broker. I followed microsoft's step-by-step guide on setting up the session broker, however I'm having problems. When I bring up the Web Access interface on a terminal server (http://ts1/ts) I see my list of available apps. However, after I click on an icon (ie: wordpad), I get an error stating "Unable to connect to terminal server. The terminal server farm ts1 that you are trying to connect to is redirecting you to the server ts2. Remote Desktop cannot verify that this server belongs to the same server farm. This can occur if there is a server on your network with th…

Common Certificate for all Profiles on a Terminal Server
by Guest Scott- 3 replies

Hello, We use a website to access information hosted by a local County office. The website issues certificates via a Microsoft Certificate Server (anyone can install the web cert). However, the certificate is stored in the users profile, so in a multi-user environment the certificate must be installed for each user. Is there a way to install this cert for all users on a paticular terminal services server, without having to manually do it by hand?

Printer and RDP issue
by Guest Mike- 4 replies

Hi folks, I have a couple of questions I hope someone can help me debug. I have a user in a remote office running Vista Business and connecting via RDP to a TS server at our main office. She has a Dell 1720dn printer installed locally that prints fine. However, when she connects to the TS, she isn't seeing her local printer as an option to print to. She sees other printers not located in her office, but not the one on her desk. I have 3 other users at this location, all with a 1720dn on their desktops and they can print via TS just fine. Any ideas why that printer isn't showing up for this one user? Also, I'm having a little trouble with RDP on V…

Unattended Reboot -> Relogin. Is it possible?
by Guest Travis- 4 replies

I have several web servers (both win2k and 2k3) that run a *desktop app* that’s both old and unstable and is used for networking a legacy app on many client machines. This app runs as a desktop application and cannot be run as a Windows service(for various unimportant reasons). It cannot be replaced or upgraded for a more stable version. This app crashes from time to time and when it does it’s normally between 2 and 3 am :). I have built a monitor for it so I know when it crashes. However, to get it working again I have to manually log into the offending server, reboot and relogin so that I can run it on the desktop. I cannot simply restart the app without…

Processor 100% occupation

Hello, I have developped a Access Project application that runs on a Terminal Server with various users. The problem is that, at any time one of the user makes the program "crash" (don't know why) and the TS processor gets to 100% occupation, causing problems to all users. Is there an automatic way to know that a user is making the processor occupation to be at 100% and making him logoff? I hope all your help...

Re: New applications will not start ! Hi, I know this post is more than a year old but is there a way to have your suggestion apply to all terminal server users? The adding of the network drive to the local intranet site seems to work only for the current user logged in. Is there some setting in the group policy that we can set it so that it applies to all users logging in - if so where can I find it. Thanks, Arnel D. GP/OU Problem/Question
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 9 replies

In a VirtualPC setup (test lab), I am using Windows 2003 Server as a DC and a separate Windows 2003 member server as the TS. I am having a problem getting any Group Policy changes to take effect for an XP Pro client that logs into the TS --using what I thought was the proper method of setting this up. Here are my notes on what I have done so far: 1. Create OU & GPO for the TS: a. In AD of DC, create an OU called: 'Terminal Servers' b. Move TS machine into this OU. c. Right click 'Terminal Servers' OU, and go to properties. Click on GP tab d. Click 'New' and name GP (ex, TS Users GP) 2. Create TestUser(s) in AD: a. Create username/password (ex., Test…

Office Licencing on TS Server

Hello, I have read the following article and found the licencing agreement a bit surprising and was wondering if someone would clear something up for me. http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/library/9da3742f-699d-4476-b050-c50aa14aaf081033.mspx?mfr=true This a word document from MSFT site explaining how to correctly license Office on a Terminal Services Server. As I read it, you must have a full copy of Office on the remote desktop machine (machine you are using to access TS) in order to use Office on the Terminal Server?!?! If you use say a machine in an internet cafe, you won't be able to use Outlook, Word etc unless Office is actu…

RDP client Local printers do not install on 2003 TS
by Guest John M- 6 replies

I have a 2003 R1 DC and a 2003 R2 Terminal Server joined to the domain but only as a member. The Terminal Services License server is running on the DC. Remote RDP client printers are not installing on the TS when a connection is made for either administrators or normal users. I can RDP to the DC and my local printers map back but when I RDP to the TS they are not there. All the correct drivers are installed on the TS, “connect client printers at logon” is checked in Terminal Services Configuration on the TS and remote clients, I get no errors in the System event log upon connecting and no TS001, TS002,,, printer ports are created on the TS whe…

Hello, I want to created script that will log and calculate how much time user was connected to terminal server and how much of that time user do something, meaning I must exclude from active_time idle_time. I found command query user that will return me how much time user has been idle. My process: 1. query user - query terminal server users every minute and write that info into file 2. If variable user1 exist and idle_time is dot don't increment variable user1_idle 3. If variable user1 exist and idle_time is not dot increment variable user1_idle for 1 (and every time it parse next log file increment for one) 4. If variable user1 exist and idle_ti…
