Hi Everyone ! I have a remote desktop connection problem on my Windows 2003 Server RC2 In the remote desktop connection client I enter the Ip address of the server and nothing happens (no error, no timeout, nothing) The client stays with the Ip entered but nothing more If i retry the connection in the day, sometimes it works If I go directly to the server console, sometimes I can't login... There is the message "Error connecting to existing session for administrator (Id 0). The operation completed successfully" Sometimes... I can login ! There is no error in the event viewer of the server. I have McAfee 7.1 installed But my others servers are with …

Default printer in Terminal Services Session
by Guest Louigee- 1 reply

Recently had an issue where remote clients were having trouble setting their DEFAULT printer in a Terminal Services Session. When they would log into either Terminal Server, they would get WHATEVER the Administrator of the Terminal Server (moi) had set on my previous login session. They would set their own LOCAL printer as default, logout and log back in and have their default printer revert BACK to whatever the administrator of the Terminal Server (moi) had set. Ie. Default printer setting in Terminal Services was not working. Scenario: 2 Terminal Servers. Both in their own OU (Org Unit). Seperate group policy for these Terminal Servers - a locked down gro…

64bit Windows 2008 Terminal Services and printing
by Guest Alex- 9 replies

Does anyone know whether we should expect to run into printer driver issues when connecting a 32bit Windows client PC to a 64bit Windows 2008 Terminal Server? I assume that the 64bit Windows 2008 Server machine will need to have 64bit printer drivers installed. But will the old 32bit printer drivers installed on our client PCs work or must some kind of update be done? Thank you! ---Alex

Hello, I'm setting up a Windows 2003 R2 X64 terminal server. I was thinking about installing a few programs remotely this weekend. I'd like to make sure I am in a root session when installing. I heard they were changing /console to /home. How do I make sure once I've terminalled in that I actually am in a root console session? Thanks

by Guest boe- 4 replies

Hello, I currently have a terminal server that has some licenses. I plan to reformat the server but I want to transfer the 2003 TS licenses from that server to our new server first. Is there a way to do that or do I need to call MS? Thanks

Seamless Windows RDP Client--available, yet?
by Guest Bill Bradley- 2 replies

I understood that a "seamless windows" type of RDP client would be released with Server 2008, but, it wasn't clear if it would also work with Server 2003. Is this available, or, is there a newer client that comes with Server 2008? Thanks!

TS Log on and log off screen does not finish
by Guest anhdaophan- 4 replies

Hi all, Our 2003 server (standard edition) running TS, dc, dns, dhcp, and recently we experience problem when log on or log off the server both remotely and locally. The log on and log off screens won't go away and I have to manually logoff that session using TS management console. I notice that mobsync.exe running everytime user logoff, if I end that process, log off finished. Besides, some application stop responding at log off and windows can't close them. I try to stop mobsync from running by modify the registry value and starup list but it still shows up. At log on, winlogon seems to take a lot of time and won't finish. I have to logoff or dis…

open a specific file on launch?

Hi, I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to TS so forgive me if this is obvious. I have a Word document on my TS server that I want people to be able to access and edit. Is there a way I can send them a link (in an email) that when clicked will run RDP on their computer and log then in to TS with that file running? Or is there a better way of doing something like this (it doesn't have to be TS). Thanks.

msrcincident files
by Guest Fred- 9 replies

Hello, Does someone know where to find some references about the generation of a msrcincident file ? I wrote a little tool for my collegues to change the IP address to the correct public IP (and the port) in this file but they still have to use the wizard to generate the file as I don't know how to calculate the first key in RCTICKET element and the PassStub Attribute in the RCTICKETENCRYPTED element. Thanks. -- Fred http://www.cerber mail.com/?3kA6ftaCvT (enlever l'espace)

Disabling Visual Effects
by Guest GCB- 5 replies
Hi Folks! Have been stuck on this one now for quite a while and thought I would ask if anyone knows if there is a way of disabling the visual effects when users log on to a Windows 2003 terminal server by means of RDP, I have been through the group policies and short of importing registry entries to do this (which seem overly complicated and dangerous) I can find no way of doing this. I have disabled the Windows themes and enforced the Windows Classic desktop which appears to have worked but can't seem to do anything else as this seems to be a per user setting rather than a group setting. Just to clarify the setting can be found in system properties…

Permissions issues on a 2003 Terminal Server
by Guest Tim- 7 replies

I have a couple of applications that run fine on workstations and even on other Terminal servers, but regular domain users cannot run them properly on this one terminal server. One of the applications is Windows Messenger; as a domain admin, I can run Messenger on any machine that has it installed, and the domain user I will use as an example here can access Messenger from his desktop and from other Terminal servers, but from this one server, he is unable to run it. Is there a permissions trick I need to know when setting up Messenger or Live Communications on a Terminal server to make sure that all users are able to access the application? Thanks i…

Connect to 2003 Server through RDC. This is fine within the office, no problem Connection through a VPN the RDP connection drops, can last from a few seconds, never more than 4-5 mins. VPN through to a desktop on the lan, the RDC is fine. Draytek support have tried this too, there they have claimed it is not a router problem. Using XPPro SP2 on computers connecting in Connection made from different sites, no difference still loses RDC on server Connection made either through VPN or lan-lan connection (draytek router-router) same result. The VPN and lan-lan connections do NOT drop when the RDC drops. It the remote computer connects through VP…

Policy Question
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 3 replies

We know this is a bad setup but, if a Windows 2003 Domain Controller is also a Terminal Server what is the recommended way to setup Group Policy for Groups of users relative to the OU structure? We are more familiar (but not experts) of setting up a TS when it is a member server and you move it into its own OU. We have a mix of Thin-clients and XP Pro workstations that will connect to the DC/TS. So for example, we have the following types of users: 1. Remote users using Thin Clients -- located at another office who need to login to the TS to use (3) applications and have their own folders on the TS but restricted use otherwise. The Thin-clients have no local…

Thin-Client printing question
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 0 replies
We have Wyse thin-clients that use their own Internet Explorer capabilities to browse the Internet and they have theWindowsCE OS and we need to be able to print out web-based emails. Currently, these same thin-clients connect to the 2003 Terminal Server to run an application and print to a network-based printer (local to the thin- clients). How do we give the thin-clients the ability to print to this printer from the Internet? Thanks

Help with configuring Outlook2007 on Terminal Services
by Guest Rick- 0 replies

I am not sure which newsgroup I should post this to so I am trying both ..terminal.services and .outlook.installation. Sorry for the cross-posting. I have a Windows 2003 R2 Small Business Server as a Domain controller and a Windows Server 2003 R2 running Terminal Service as an Application Server connected to the Domain. I have installed Access 2007 Runtime and Outlook 2007 on the TS. I have an Access 2007 database that is run by many Users, none of which have mailboxes on the SBS Exchange Server. They connect to the SBS using Remote Web Workplace, authenticate to the server, then connect to the Terminal server using RDC 6.1. The only reason I installed…

Windows Vista - Windows 2003 server
by Guest DRIESSEN Michel- 1 reply

Hello, I have a PC with Windows Vista Business and I want to use Terminal Services to login on a Windows 2003 server. I made a shortcut to make the connection automatically. When I used it for the first time, I was asked for the username and the password. I choose the option to save them so I don't have to input them in the future. But when the connection is made, I am told that the username or the password isn't correct. I also can see that the username is preceeded by the internal IP-address of the server. If I make the connection with a Windowx XP PC, I don't have that problem and the connection is made automatically. How can I make the co…

Network drive redirection
by Guest MikeDub- 0 replies

Can anyone think of a way to prevent network drive redirection (from client to server). I'd like to do this on the server itself, so then I would not have to edit all client files (let alone we're using a Terminal Server add-on). I want to keep the local drive redirection, just not the network drive. Thanks

Session Directory and Dead Servers
by Guest lozza- 0 replies

Guys, I guess this is quite a niche topic as I cant find much out there. I have even read and re-read the SessionDirectory.doc from Microsoft and cant seem to figure out what I am looking for... Here is my scenario. 2 TS Servers 1 Session Directory Server hosted on a Cluster DNS Load Balancing being used at present TS Servers are hooked into the SD... everything works great. A given user can RDP to the Cluster name (VIP) and connect to either TS1 or TS2. If user connects to TS1 and disconnects session this is fine as well. When that users establishes an RDP session to the Cluster name (VIP) again, whether he is dropped onto TS1 or TS2 for logon cred…
