by Guest Vincent- 3 replies

Our vendor, Ingram Micro, claims that there is a minimum purchase amount of 5 Microsoft Terminal Server Open Licenses. Can anyone confirm this? Perhaps this is a policy of Ingram Micro and not Microsoft itself? Thanks. Vincent

Configure TS Automatically for Logged On User
by Guest Thomas M.- 0 replies

XP SP2 We are in the process of converting our users to standard user accounts. We have a number of employees who use terminal services to remotely control their machines. By default, administrators on the local machine have the right to use terminal services, whereas non-administrators must be added to the Remote Desktop Users list. This sets up a situation where people have the ability to use terminal services by virtue of the fact that they are members of the local administrators group. Once they are removed from local administrators group, and if they have not been added to the Remote Desktop Users list, they lose the ability to use terminal services. …

How can I improve the display of Word in Terminal Server?
by Guest Jane Parker- 3 replies

I have Word open on my local PC, I have Word open in my Terminal Server session, and placing them side-by-side you can clearly see the Terminal Server display is far inferior to my local PC instance of Word. I have set all the display settings as high as possible for the Terminal Server session and the quality is still inferior - what else can be done?

Licenses not showing as being issued!
by Guest quaium- 1 reply

Sorry, I did post this question in another post but its gone way down the list... I've managed to successfully transfer TS Licenses from an old Windows 2003 server to a new Windows 2003 server but I'm a little worried because in the Terminal Services Licensing Manager console none of the licenses are showing up as being issued! When I log in to a thin client or a Citrix client nothing is displayed in the "Issued To" box in Terminal Services Licensing Manager by the corresponding license type, even with the temp licenses. All the licenses are per device and showing as activated. I've also got the terminal servers to correctly find the new license se…

howto access server's hdd remotely through RDP session? (MSTSC)
by Guest Rudolf Thilo- 4 replies

Hi, is there any way to get access to a folder on the local HDD of a Windows 2003 Server (R2) from the workstation running the RDP client? It's about distributing AntiVirus Updates to the RDP clients. As a last solution it would be sufficent to transfer these files the RDP client's HDD. That I could do (ab)using the feature to "map" the client's local drive(s) to the RDP session, but this wouldn't be quite a work, as I will have simulate the AV update steps Sophos EM Library uses to guarntee consistent data. (some files have to be hidden, the update runs, then they re-appear and finally the versioning info file is updated) So if there would be a strai…

Local printing TS2003
by Guest Dellboy- 4 replies

Hi, I have a terminal server that is also a domain Controller in our small 2-server domain. I know it's not best practice, but there we are, it adds resilience. I had Dell set the servers up, however when users log on to the TS their local printers do not show up at all on the printers group on the TS. When I log on as administrator, my local printers show up and work. When I log on as a user, they don't. Can someone tell me where the setting is that allows TS users to use (install?) their local printers? Thanks

Error 7054
by Guest Mark B- 5 replies

I have a new 2003 Term. Server. I get an error code 7054 when I try to remote control any T.S. session. Basically says "The system has reached its license logon limit. Please try again later". Can't find much on the internet. Have 15 T.S. CALS, but only have ONE person connected right now. I need to figure out this problem before migrating 12 other people. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Management of application licenses on a Windows 2003 TS
by Guest Hauke Fath- 4 replies

All, I am planning the setup of a Windows 2003 terminal server, to provide a group of ~20 employees who work on Debian machines with easy access to MS Office applications. Unfortunately, I had to realize that WTS 2003 does not even keep track of its own (per-user) licenses, let alone enable me to set up a floating-license scheme for applications on the server. All that came up when I googled for application license management on WTS was the http://www.appsense.com product. Does the group have any experiences with that? Are there any alternative products on the market? Thanks, hauke -- Now without signature.

Remote Desktop sessions freezing in Windows 2003 Server
by Guest Scott A. Keen- 1 reply
We have Windows 2003 Server running Terminal Server, plugged into a 24-port Netgear Gigabit switch. We have about 12 workstations connecting to the server, all running Windows XP Pro, plugged into the switch and running Remote Desktop Connection. There are about another 6 workstations connected to the switch, but they don't log onto the server and run in their own workgroup. About 4-5 times per day, everyone's Remote Desktop session will freeze for anywhere from 15 seconds to a few minutes. When the sessions freeze, the mouse is still movable and the users can still disconnect from the session, but the server is completely non-responsive. After the free…

Simple question
by Guest Brad- 1 reply

I am TOTALLY new to Windows Terminal Services. Actually, as of this week. Hopefully this is a simple question. We are running Windows Terminal Services 2003. We have about 70-100 thin client terminals that use Terminal Server for their applications. It seems like the license on the machines expires about every 45 days and then the client has to reconnect to the Terminal Server to reaquire the license. This has to be done by IT or a system administrator manually as we log in as Administrator, access the license server to aquire the license, and then reboot so the login script signs in under a guest account. This process is painless, however the com…

Printing Problem
by Guest Candace Sparks- 1 reply

I posted under a different subject, but this one is better. We have computers in a new office running XP SP2 connecting to a terminal server through VPN tunnel. The printer is a networked printer, and I can see the printer in a session from the first computer, but am unable to print to the local printer. This happened to me about a year ago, and it seemed that I had to update the RDP. (6.2 I think) I have since lost the file on a crashed flash drive. Thank you for your help in advance! Candace Sparks

Hi, I've been searching for at better place to ask this question, but i wasn't able to find any:-( If you have a better place for this question, please let me know... Anyhow, the question is related to developing custom terminal services administration application... I need to remote control a specific user(defined by the server+username) in my software. To be able to remote control a specific user i must know the sessionid of the user. However, the API in windows does not allow me to query a server for a single username, i must enumerate ALL users and thereafter compare EACH enumerated user to see if this user has the correct username.... I am experimenting with terminal services on windows 2008. I did a complete lockdown with group policies. The only thing I can't hide/remove on a users terminal server desktop is the "search active directory" buton in the explorer bar when a user clicks on the "Network" icon. So my question is how can I remove/hide de "network" item or the "search active directory" button in the explorer bar. Thanx, Bob

Hi all, I've spent many many hours today searching for a resolution to the dreaded; Error [5]: Access denied When I try to using the command; qwinsta /server:Myserver The layout is I am issuing this command FROM a Win2k3 server (which is the domain controller) TO an XP SP2 machine (which is a member of the domain) that has an active RDP connection to it. I found the AllowRemoteRPC registry entry and added that to the registry with a DWORD value of 1. Any suggestions on why this would not be working? Thanks, Ken

Today no-one could print to their local printers from their TS sessions. print jobs could be seen waiting in the print queue, no printing errors were recorded in the printer info box or system event viewer. The problem was resolved by restarting the server where upon all printers started behaving normally. Any ideas on what was wrong? Anyone else have this problem? Thanks, Brent

tscc.msc on Vista Ultimate?
by Guest KeithLa- 4 replies

I need to debug a connection failure between my two Vista Ultimate PCs on my home network. Remote Desktop won’t connect on my home network or through WHS, and I’m pretty sure it’s not a firewall issue. I've followed all the usual steps to properly configure firewall and port 3389 (even though I'm not behind one), enable Remote Desktop, set authentication level, etc. QWINSTA reports the TS service isn't running, even though it shows started in Management Console/Services. The exact error message is: “This computer cannot connect to the remote computer. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or yo…

Using one Username to login to TS
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 1 reply

We have setup a Windows 2003 Terminal Server as a member server in an SBS2000 domain. The client purchased (10) TS Device CALs in addition to the (10) Windows Device CALs. There are (10) XP Pro client machines on a shopfloor that need to connect to the TS to use a data collection program and possibly one other TS-based application (Solidworks Viewer). We setup (10) unique AD user accounts/passwords (Shopfloor1, Shopfloor2, etc) for these TS users. They login into the domain with the same credentials they use to login to the TS. We made these (10) users members of a their own/new Security Group. We plan to implement the Group Policy for locking down the TS. All…

Performance impact on networkshare
by Guest Jacob Hornbech- 6 replies

Hello guys. We have a TS setup, running 200 users on each server, which is connected to a CX300 to deliver a decent performance to our users applications. Our users mainly run a business account application, which uses a file based databse to store the data. When a user connects to the terminal server, a network share is created to a folder which, based on an OU, which the Users contained in that OU have access to. All folders of this sort, is located on the connected LUN from the SAN, in one partition. We however, has found a performance impact when users run the application from the network share, which results in poor performance when accessing t…
