I have a fresh install of Win2003 R2 x64 and MS Office 2007. Non-administrative users who open Word get an error that reads "Word could not create the work file. Check the temp environment variable." User environment variables: TEMP = %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp TMP = %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp System environment variables: TEMP = (was) %systemroot%\temp (now changed to) C:\TEMP TMP = (was) %systemroot%\temp (now changed to) C:\TEMP I've checked the temp environment variable until I am blue in the face. I've googled for answers and found nothing helpful. In desparation I even attempted to call Micro$oft, who dispite this software be…

default printer keeps changing
by Guest Lenny- 1 reply

Hi, One of my users logs on via remote desktop but the default printer in the printer list keeps changing. I am able to change it back again but seem to have to do this everyday. At the moment the default seems to stay whilst logged on but changes after logging off. Not sure why this would be the case as the user is on a LAN with 20 other users and it is stable. Nobody else has ever had this problem. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Lenny

video display

in some cases on my terminal server... the display is weird.. I say this because sometimes within a microsoft office application you click on a button and a popup window will appear. But before the popup window will fully appear you can only see the window frames and after a few seconds then the proper popup is displayed. i am seeing this while inside the existing network of the server's location. i don't think the video drivers has to deal with this but maybe it uses the "msgina". my video drivers seems just over 2 years out of date... have windows 2003 stand R2 SP2 Dual quad 4Gb Ram -- Goku 316

We have a 2000 terminal server. It has a whole bunch of local printers installed via IP. However when someone logs in you get heaps of these Session printers... eg. _fserver01_Hewlett Packard 4100/JOHNSPC/Session 10 and so on how do i get rid of these so they don't show up on login and they can only print to the designated printers?

"Dangling" Printer
by Guest Sharlene England- 3 replies
Sometimes, (and I can't find the commonality) a printer is left in the TS print queue after the user logs off. User A has 4 printers that are autocreated when logging in to the TS, only one of them does not disappear after logoff. Different users, different printers, not all the time. What could make this happen. Thanks. Sharlene England Network Administrator Westwood Companies Vernon, BC, Canada

RDP sessions with Terminal Services
by Guest Tristan- 3 replies

Our Company currently have a dedicated server with server 2003 installed on it. My colleagues connect to the server and then RDP out of the dedicated server to clients servers. This is becoming an issue now as more of us are using the dedicated server and connecting to the same client servers. So this is resulting in taking over other colleagues sessions which can be very frustrating. Is their any software out their which can prompt the users on server 2003 which clients are logged onto which client machine? Any other useful thoughts would be much appreciated. Tristan

Office 2003 on Terminal Server & Office profiles
by Guest Tom- 0 replies

We have a Terminal server with office 2003 installed. When running the office profile wizard to restore a users settings at logon, the following error is encountered: Cannot create or restore the registry value: \software\microsoft\active setup\optional component Sync\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C] I've used regmon to monitor it, and the profile wizard is attempting to restore the profile to the default user profile, not the profile of the person who is logging on the the terminal server. Any idea why this is happening, and how can I restore a users office settings (including mapi profile) during logon. Thanks

We have a citrix server installed on a SBS 2003 (english) with Powerfuse and Office 2003 Pro (dutch) installed with proofing tools (dutch). The problem is when clients connects to the citrix and start an application like Word, everytime the spellings checker is set to its default english, when they change this setting within Word to dutch spelling it works, but while logging out and in again the setting has changed to its default, this is also the issue when i'm logged in as an admin. What i did to try to solve this out: The settings in proofing tools are all set to keep dutch as a standard language in all Office apps, but this makes no differance. The regional set…

Prevent shadowing from other Admin user?
by Guest nospam@nospam.spam- 2 replies
Hi - is it possible to prevent other Admin users from shadowing the session of another user with Admin permissions (win server 2003 with terminal services)? I know I could switch off the view remote sessions option, but I don't want that, I just want to stop another admin from viewing my session...preferably with an odd technical message rather than "this right has been denied by another admin" or some such message, if you get my drift.... Cheers.

Local printer - every logon
by Guest JohnB- 0 replies

A user logs into our terminal server with Remote Desktop, and no matter what computer he logs in from, he always gets a printer in his remote session from one other particular PC. For example, on PC1 he has Printer1. He goes to any other PC, connects to the Terminal Server and his default printer is Printer1. And that happens from EVERY pc. I unchecked the checkbox for Local Resources/Local Devices/Printers, at any PC, and Printer1 still shows up as the printer in the Remote Desktop connection. What would cause this, and how would I fix that? Thanks

Hei I have problems with Outlook 2003 / Office 2003 running on a Windows 2003 SBS. User are conntecting via a Remote Desktop connection. Terminal Services. Total users: 50, during normal days around 20 users online. With around 15 users online, outlook is getting really slow. Is there a way to make outlook performe better? The server is dual core 3.8 with 4 GB RAM. 2,5 GB RAM in use with 15 users online. CPU load not bad at all, 10-20 prosent. Microsoft writes that using Word as email editor makes outlook slow. User have to run Word as editor because of some features f.ex. spell check. Thanks for any idea. Thomas / Norway

I need some help/advice transferring TS Licenses from an old Windows Server 2003 server to a new Citrix server running Windows Server 2003. Below is a detailed description of how our Citrix farm is setup and what is required: We currently have FIVE Citrix servers running Windows Server 2003. FOUR of these are Presentation Servers and ONE is the License Server (NOTE: The License Server is setup as a presentation server but is not used as one). We currently have the TS Licenses residing on an old server which was setup before we went down the Citrix route. Currently the Citrix Farm is pointing to the TS Licenses on this old server. We would now like to …

Monitor CPU usage all all users on terminal server
by Guest HarryH- 0 replies

Hello, i need to enable a user (yes: A user!) to monitor the cpu usage of all users on a terminal server without making him a member of the administrators or power users group. I have added the user to the "Performance Log Users" and "Performance Monitor Users" groups to allow him to gather the relevant resource data on the server. One problem is, that a normal user cannot enable the "show processes of all users" option in Task Manager. This seems to be a hardcoded Admin-option. I have found two ways to circumvent this issue: 1. Use a different monitoring tool, e.g. PcrView 2. Use a registry-hack: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/kbase/WindowsTip…

Running TS on DC
by Guest Guest- 3 replies

We have a DC that is running terminal services on it. It has to be this way as the client cant afford two machines to split the roll. we have implemented loop back policy (ts-computer) and user policy (ts-user) in group policy management to lock the users down with great effect. we have made changes to the secpol.msc "allow login through terminal services" to enable user account to login to the Dc/terminal server. Everything works well on this server when logging in as a user (ms office, accounting software, lob app, printing etc) except for IE 7.x which refuses to run javascript (bank site pop up windows for example) when logged in as administrator, t…
