Environment: Enterprise 2003 R2SP2 - terminal server w/ excel, word, etc. XP SP2 - TS client 6.0 Issue: When clients connect to the terminal server, opens a excel sheet with data. copy the data, minimize window and try to copy data to the client excel the data will not copy. However data will copy from the client to the terminal server session. I checked the TS GPO, TS Configuration, XP TS client, and the users profiles for anything disallowing the clipboard. I have made sure under the TS Configuration I enabled the "virtual channel". I also made sure the Hotfix 840872 was installed. The last bit that trips me up is if I have the user co…

Vista Home Premium and Terminal Licensing
by Guest Saral6978- 4 replies

I'm hoping I can explain this correctly...Our Citrix server runs on Windows 2000 and as a requirement has terminal services installed - our applications are accessed via a Citrix Metaframe website. However, the licensing server in our organization is a Windows 2003 R2 Server. Because the clients connecting to our Citrix server (win2k terminal server) are XP Pros, our 2003 licensing server gives them a "built-in" license that never expires. I have a user that purchased a Vista Home Premium Edition and wants to be able to connect to our Citrix server from home, but it is my understanding that they will only be given a temporary license, since that is what…

Multiple Languages in Terminal Services

I have am trying to deploy an IBM iSeries client for Japanese users on an English Citrix server that is hosting other English applications for English speaking users. The problem I am running into is the Japanese application is non-Unicode. So when I set the non-Unicode in the regional settings menu to Japanese, all English users are getting Japanese characters. Is there any way to run more than one Unicode setting? Or specify Japanese non-Unicode on a per application basis? or is it all or none on that setting? Thanks

Long Log Off from Win2003Std R2
by Guest David- 1 reply

Remote uses are accessing a Win2003Std R2 in TS mode to access databases and exchange hosted on a Win2003SBS R2. Remote Users (WinXP Pro) -- TS (Access : Outlook) -- SBS (MDB : Exchange) -- Local Users (Win XP Pro : Access : Outlook) Logon time and response when connected are very good. However the logoff period between clicking Logoff and the window closing can be several minutes. Any way of speeding this up? Currently temporary files are assigned on the TS Server for each session. remote desktop time out when accessing TS
by Guest Jim Burke in Novi- 7 replies

I have been using remote desktop for months to access our terminal server from my laptop. I am hardwired to my modem using earthlink cable. It always worked fine. SUddenly it has started timing out on me. My web access works fine, and I can use remote desktop on my laptop from a friend's houses using their internet connection and I get to the server OK, but on mine now it just times out on me. Earthlink help was of no help to me at all. I can ping the server fine, get to the web OK, just can't get the remote desktop connection. Other users are getting to the server fine. ANy idea what would cause this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sluggish application for one user until I reboot TS
by Guest Al Williams- 0 replies

Server 2003 Standard TS, SP2, all patches. We had a situation the other day where one TS user was unable to run a particular (older) application effectively - it was very slow to load and pretty much unusable. Other TS users had no issues with this same app, just this particular user and logging out and then back into the TS did not help. I monitored the program in question with Process Explorer and all I saw was a long "wait.executive" pauses in various DLL's the program uses -- I checked another TS user but didn't see those pauses. In the end I rebooted the terminal server and the one users issue went away. What I can't figure out is why, it seems t…

Hello, We're wanting to connect a sales office to the main office to use MAS200. I've seen some posts about connecting to MAS200 via terminal services. Does anyone know what is the user's experience like? Is it acceptable or is there a lag like when using gotomypc? Does anyone have any other sugestions we should look into with using the MAS product? Thanks, j.t.w

Printiers.....HELP!
by Guest nick- 3 replies

I was hoping someone could help me. Here's the issue: I have a domain user that signs onto a Terminal Server which is not part of the domain. (She signs in as as a local user for that server with admin. rights) When she signs in NONE of her printers come up. Not even the ones locally attached to her machine. If I sign in as administrator then the printers on her system come up. I checked on the TS and found that she was in there as a local admin. I checked all AD and local user properties, and made sure that the printers area was checked. I even checked security properties on the printer. If I sign in with her name on the TS I am able to connect to her pr…

How do I get a Win2003 R2 server I am connecting to with RDP to ask for a terminal server user CAL from the License server? After 2 connections it gives the message "The terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections." I have 15 user CALS installed on the licence server but it can't see it for some reason. Is there any way to force it to see the licence server?

Multiple CPU in TS
by Guest MS Poster- 2 replies

Hello: I have a W2k3 SP2 64-bit Terminal Server running on a quad 2.0 GHz processor. Only about five users connect and rarely at the same time. One user in particular is trying to run a heavy statistical package called R (http://www.r-project.org/). He says that when he runs a large computation, he sees a single CPU max out at 100% and all others just sit there. Is there some optimization or setting I can do to allow that app to take advantage of all CPUs? thanks.

Licence server is not visible to the domain
by Guest sambols- 1 reply

I have activated and installed the licences for terminal services license server on a Win2003 SP2 standard edition server. However whenever when I open the Terminal Server Licensing server it checks with the Domain controller looking for license server. It then gives the error message "No Terminal Server license server is available in the current domain or workgroup. To connect to another license server, click Action, click Connect, and then type the name of the server" So I then connect to the server using the Connect button and entering in the server name. I can see the server and the licences installed on the server. However it does appear that it is no…

Terminal Server / Thin Client Implementation

Environment (primary location) System: Windows 2003 (Single Domain), XP Pro Clients, Exchange Server 2003, Outlook 2003 Clients, Terminal Server WAN: T1 Users: 100 users. 30 Administration, 70 production Hello, I'd like the community's opinion on the following scenario. We are planning to build a warehouse across the street from our primary building. In the first phase, we expect to place 12 production users who will need access to our production database. Eventually, we will have all 70 production users in the warehouse. Since we have a terminal server with only 10 users accessing it at our primary location, I am thinking that we can purcha…

SBS2000 AD with 2003 TS
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 1 reply

We have an SBS2000 Domain Controller and a Windows 2003 Terminal Server as a member server in the domain. In the 2000 AD, we have certain users (will call them TS Users for now) that need to login to the TS using RDC from XP Pro based systems. However, a Windows 2000 AD does not contain the Remote Desktop Users (RDU) group like a 2003 AD would. Currently, all "TS Users" are just members of the "Domain Users" group. Since we cannot add them to the non-existent RDU group, how can we set them up to login to the TS? Note: We intend to creat a separate OU for the TS and then create a GPO for linked to the TS. So if we need to do that before we do anything, ple…

Application log username
by Guest Al Williams- 1 reply

Server 2003 Standard TS, SP2, all patches. Couple questions: If I log onto our terminal server as Admin and view the application event log it shows events generated for all users, correct? Any idea why the User column in the event viewer usually shows N/A instead of the user who had the error? It would be nice to be able to monitor application hangs, etc and know which user is having the problem (they don't always tell me). The user column isn't much help though as it is usually N/A. Some events show the user (print) but most don't. Thanks. -- Allan Williams

TS Performance per User

Hi Guys, So, i have a TS server that is running along just fine in a Virtual Machine... all applications (just management tools) loaded and working... Could you help me draw up a perfmon that will help realise realistically how much memory and cpu each user is consuming, so I can possibly look at profiling our users in terms of average memory and cpu (and possibley any other stats) that will help in specing further machines hosting the same applications. So far, I have comfortable been able to get measurements of: -Active session - giving concurrency of about 30 users -Inactive session -Total Session -Available MBytes of memory -% total processor…

Hi, Using windows server 2003 and terminal services. We have a program being used per terminal services and that program checks valid licenses across our network per IP. I need to find a way where each user on the terminal server can be assigned different IP addresses so our third party program does not see all the users with the same IP address. I have a user who logs onto a terminal server 2003 desktop. She spends most of her time using a published application from another terminal server. She needs to copy text from Outlook to the published app. Although we were able to accomplish this using terminal server 2000, we cannot copy from Outlook to the published app with Terminal server 2003. I am sure that this is a security setting. Where should I be looking? Thank you,

Hi. I experienced an odd behavior on two servers recently (Windows 2003 Standard SP2). I connected to the server using MS terminal client and chose to connect the c: drive to copy files from my local computer to the server. On the server in remote desktop I located the file on my computer and chose copy and when I tried to paste I lost the connection. I then realized that the server had rebooted!
