Terminal Services intermittently stops listening
by Guest amacam- 2 replies

I am trying to connect from a Windows XP SP3 workstation to a Windows Server 2003 SP2 server using Remote Desktop Connection client. I have version 6.0.6001 on the XP workstation. On connection, I receive the following error: "This computer can't connect to the remote computer. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator." After receiving the message, we logon to the server from the console and run a netstat and see that 3389 is not listening. Also, if we run tsadmin and go to sessions, we do not see an RDP-Tcp session listed. I do not always receive this message, sometime…

I'm running Symantec EndPoint Protection on my TS (WS 2008) but it seems a bit flaky for end users and it doesn't seem to scan POP3 email for users. Are there are any better AV solutions for TSs? - anthonyx26

Thin client support for TS Gateway
by Guest lamaslany- 10 replies
We have been using Terminal Services for our desktop provision to staff for many years now and as a result we have many dozens of HP thin clients out in the field (and by field I mean teleworking locations and in the homes of our staff). 80% of our users are able to work remotely in this fashion and the remaining 20% work on the terminal servers using thin clients on site. We are looking to move to Windows Server 2008 and one of the main features we are looking to implement is the TS Gateway. Unfortunately while users with access to PCs and laptops (~20%) should have no problems I am growing concerned for the thin client users. Is there a list of sup…

Have a problem with TS logon. 2003 server, I can RDC into the server with any account other than the built in Administrator account. When I RDC into server with this account, it allows me to log in, then get a blank desktop. This will stay this way for a little while and then auto log me out. I have tried logging with a second connection to no avail. I can use Ctrl-Shift-End and bring up Taskmgr, nothing else is running. Cannot see the taskbar or any icons? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Question regarding HP compatibility doc
by Guest Gregg Hill- 1 reply
Hello! While on hold with HP, I am looking at page 7 of this document http://h71028.www7.hp.com/ERC/downloads/4AA0-8465ENW.pdf to see if an HP Color LaserJet 3600n is compatible on a 2003 TS. It shows as supported in Citrix and mentions an HP driver under the Host-based column. It does not support PCL or PS, so I cannot map it to a built-in driver. The introduction to the doc seems to indicate that it is specific to Citrix environments and it is not clear (to me) if this doc is applicable to TS **without** Citrix. Is this document specific to Citrix, or if a printer is Citrix compatible it means it is also TS 2003 compatible? I think the latter may b…

Multiple Terminal services Servers Licencing split
by Guest astronomer2002- 3 replies
I have two Terminal Servers (Windows 2003) one of them controlling the licences. The second server has just been added to run a specific application. I want each server to have its own licence pool as each caters for a different set of remote users within the same active directory. I cannot see how to do this. I have a 25 pack of licences for one server and a new 10 pack for the other. I do not want to simply top-up the 25 as this will inevitably lead to one group of users hogging the licences. The licencing mode is per user and one server has been in operation for 3 years. Can anyone suggest a way to ration ts cals in this way?

by Guest Tony Rigdon- 5 replies

On a Windows 2003 server, SP2 installed we have the Terminal Licensing Server running, setup using "Per User" CALs. Initially we started out with 25 of these until we purchased an additional 20 to get us to 45 users. Everything works fine until we reach the original 25 limit. Once 25 are in use, users are unable to connect. When going into the "Terminal Server Licensing" screen on the server, it displays three lines (slightly abreviated below): Product Type Total Available Issued ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Existing Win…

I was told by someone that a retail pack of "Terminal Services Client Access Licenses For Microsoft Windows Server 2008" is able to be installed on a Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server. I was doubtful, but tried installing them anyway. When doing so, I receive an "Invalid Code" error. I bet the guy a case of beer that it couldn't be done. Who gets the beer?

I added 25 per user licenses, but people on Temp licenses still get the message and cannot connect at all once it expires. How do I change the people on Temp Device licenses to use the per user licenses? Thanks
