We are using a Windows 2003 terminal server. I can connect with this server trough the Internet. In the router I set the NAT table to the server. When I connect to the IP address of my ADSL with RDP software then the connection is made to the Terminal server. When I like to add a second server (performance issue) then I'm not able to use NAT. Is there a way to use more than 1 Terminal server with only 1 ADSL line? (Load balancing?)

Getting second server to see licenser server
by Guest Jerry Flatto- 8 replies

We have two virtual servers running VMWare on our university network. These servers are only available internally for academic use and are both addressable with internal separate IP addresses (XXX.XXX.XXX.205 and XXX.XXX.XX.206). They are both running Windows 2003 server while our university is Linux based. The first vserver has terminal services license server running on it as well as SQL 2005 and Dynamics GP 9.0. The second vserver is configured for Active Directory so we can install CRM 3.0 on it. How do we set up the terminal services on the second vserver (.206) so that it can see the license server of the first vserver (.205)? Thanks for any assis…

TS Gateway - RDP keeps losing connection and reconnects
by Guest Dag Staale Jenssen- 8 replies

Hi We have a W2K8 configured as terminal server with a TS Gateway and TS Licensing server inn an SBS 2003 R2 domain. We can connect thru Remote Web Workplace (RWW) to the W2K8 TS. The connection works fine, and we are not experiencing any connections problems what so ever. We can also connect thru TS Gateway on the TS server, allowing us connection on port 443. When we connect thru the terminal server gateway, we can log on to the W2K8 TS. At random and persistently the RDP client will lose connection to the TS. The RDP client will reconnect time after time and so often that it is impossible to work. At times it will continuously connect, lose connecti…

IE7 and UNC Paths from the address bar
by Guest Larryw- 8 replies
I am having issues with several Windows Server 2003 servers running sp2. Currently we have IE7 installed on 3 test servers, and things appear ok when you RDP to the server or the console. The issue arrises when you use an RDP published app, or publish IE7 on citrix. It will launch seamlessly on the users desktop, and they can work like normal, except when they type in a UNC path in the address bar. now this can be, \\server\share or c:\ or d:\ or a mapped drive like n:\ or u:\. when they do this they get an error. Address Bar c:\(or what ever the path is) is currently unavailable. the odd thing is it pops the path you typed in, in a windows explorer win…

Hi, I have a Windows 2000 terminal server that is part of a domain where the TS license server is a Windows 2003 server. Windows XP clients are being refused connections to the 2000 server because of "an error in the licensing protocol". I have made the registry entry for the license server on the Windows 2000 server but error 1004 still appears in the event log. The XP clients should still be able to connect to the 2000 server without a purchased CAL should they not? TIA

Adding an 2nd TSS (2003)
by Guest David- 8 replies
Hi, I need to split off (not really load balancing) half our our organization from our existing TS, which houses an application (a real drag) to a new TSS( 2003 Standard R2) to relieve some of the burden from the Application/TS server. This is a medium term fix. I'm in a real bind, given the current application and Hardware resources i'm supprised its working at all. So, how do I have an additional TSS share resources from an Application server (again, the new TSS will not have the application loaded)? Thanks, David

Connecting to users desktop PC without losing IE 6 Trusted Sites
by Guest bstillion- 8 replies
Users logon to their PCs while at the office and their IE6 trusted sites are populated through a WINBATCH script. When the same user logs on from home to the TS/Citrix server and then RDP's to their desktop, all Trusted Sites get deleted. When the user returns to the office the next day, he must log on twice before his trusted sites are restored. Windows Server 2003 AD, no policies are applying any IE settings (confirmed by Microsoft Support.) including no "loopback" policy applied to the terminal servers. One of my steps to resolve was to apply a list of Trusted Sites to the default domain policy. My manager suggested moving it since that is not the b…

TS/Citrix Access Problem
by Guest Luiz- 8 replies

Hi, if this question isn´t belong to this Newsgroup, excuse me. I have a Windows 2000 Server SP4, fully updated, configured with Terminal Server to Windows XP clients. As I know, there is no need to configure a TS Licensing Server to my Windows XP clients, so, I don´t have any TS Licensing in my network. I have installed Citrix PS 4 (fully updated) in my TS and a Citrix License Server with to 70 licenses installed. Every day 63 clients access the PS 4. When more than that try to access they receive the following error “ Cannot connect to the Citrix Metaframe Server. The Citrix Metaframe Server is not available, please try again later.” I have app…

RDP from LAN but not from external addresses
by Guest Roger Vicker- 8 replies

We had set up a W2K8 server (the only server in the organization) with User CALs and everything was working fine inside and outside. Just as we were rolling it out to the remote and roaming users it stopped working. Users on the local, to the server, network can still fully use RDP. Outside users get to the server's full screen logon but no matter what user/password they use they get a "The user name or password is invalid." error. Same user/password works via the local network. The event log was showing a 1004 id but a hot fix stopped that as MS indicated it was a false event that led to useless investigation. This started right in the middle of …

image column in TSAdmin
by Guest Remko- 8 replies

When I look on the processes tab in TSAdmin it seems to me that the image name of processes is cut off when longer than 15 or 18 characters. Some examples: 1) run tsadmin on windows xp, look at local processes veryveryverylongfilename.exe is displayed as veryveryverylongfi frameworkservice.exe is displayed as frameworkservice.e So the names are cut off at 18 chars. 2) run tsadmin on windows xp, look at remote windows 2003 server: amagentassist.exe is displayed as amagentassist.e lockdownmgrsrv.exe is displayed as lockdownmgrsrv. So the names are cut off at 15 chars. If I run TSAdmin on the windows 2003 server the processnames are displayed correct…

Thin Clients vs Win XP / PE
by Guest Marcus Cotey- 8 replies
We have several users using thin clients to connect to Win 2003 Terminal Services. We also have several users using WinXP and MSTSC to connect. We even have a few that use Win PE2.0 and MSTSC to connect to the TermServ farm. The WinXP and the WinPE clients have keyboard delays when connecting. The thin clients do not. What would cause this delay? Before someone suggests this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324446 I have already read it. We cannot enable those advance features on our RAID array (Thanks Dell) and so that is not an option. How would I even test for that anyway? I mean, if that really is the issue I could probably lobby to g…

Are there any ISPs who would take a virtual machine we supply to them and run it on their premises, occasionally stopping the virtual machine to do a full image backup? We would access the computer by terminal services. I'm looking for this at a rate of under $30/month. I'm aware of vendors who would do this for $300/month, which seems laughable considering they could run 20 virtual machines on a $5K server. We figured our cost to do it internally on our own servers around $60/month per virtual machine, so I'm hoping someone out there has cheaper electricity and economy of scale. -- Will

Problem with Licensing and "mstsc /console"
by Guest JSmith- 8 replies

We purchased 9 terminal server licenses (setup as per device). Whenever all 9 client computers are logged in, we are unable to connect to the server console using "mstsc /console" from a 10th management computer. However, if we log out 1 client computer then we are able to connect. We need to be able to remote control the 9 sessions from the management computer. Server: Windows 2003 Server x64 RDP Client: version 6 Management computer OS: Windows XP Client computer OS: HP thin client (t5135) connecting via RDP

Terminal Service session slow on Vista for just one server
by Guest Hassan- 8 replies

So I am trying to terminal service into this particular host and every click of the mouse takes like 30 secs. Its like as if it freezes and then wakes up when i try to navigate through the session. So here is what I know so far.. On another Vista PC and on XP, it works fine and I can navigate through it fast. This behavior is being seen on 2 PCs so far and I dont know if its because of the Cisco VPN client that we have installed. I uninstalled it as well and it still works as such. Infact this behaviour is to only one of the hosts that I terminal service into and not other hosts. Other hosts work fine. So it feels like its between my XP and this…

I have a Terminal Services setup running on the domain controller. Everthing is OK logging on as administrator, but when I try to use my AD user account, I get the message "To log on to the remote computer, you must be granted the Allow logon through Terminal Services right" I cannot logon, even though that right appears to be set correctly in the Remote Desktop Users profile. What can I do to get past this problem?

Disabling a GPO logon Script
by Guest Alex Anderson- 8 replies

Hello Everyone, We have a GPO logon script that users get when they log into their computer or TS. Our goal is disable the logon script when users log into the TS server. I found the KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924034/en-us) that explains the process however the script still runs when a user logs in. I'm not sure if it's because the script is tagged to a GPO or if the KB article is meant for entirely something else? I did get help from the VB script people on how to exclude certain computers from running however I thought it would be much easier to just disable the logon script feature on the TS server. Any help would be much appr…
