Server 2000 Licensing Question
by Guest MikeK- 4 replies

I have an old 2000 Citrix farm that I am supporting. It should be replaced with all new hardware and 2008 server within the next 6 months or so, but that's all tied up in budget. So we have to keep it running. (it could more than a year before the budge gets approved, so we can't depend on it) However, The DC that is running the License service is dying. Environment is 100% XP clients, all are on the same LAN. 10 Terminal Servers, 3 DC's Existing License Server has: 25 Windows 2000 Terminal Services Client Access License (Type OPEN) (10 are issued dating from 2006, up till last week) 450 Builtin In (the main bulk of our users) 14 Temporary Windows 20…

change the driver a printer uses
by Guest td- 1 reply

I recently used the TS Printer Driver Redirection Wizard to try and fix an issue with a user that can't get there printer to redirect. I was able to get the printer to finally redirect but then when the user printed to it the printer only fed out blank sheets of paper. When I re-ran the wizard the printer does not show up because now it has a driver for it. My question is how do I change the driver associated with that printer? TIA

GPO Setting question...TS Sessions related
by Guest Cary Shultz- 5 replies
Good evening! We have a client who has a Terminal Server. I have a GPO that locks things down a bit. Included in this GPO are the following: Active Session Limit: 1 day Idle Session: 3 hours End disconnected session: 30 minutes My question here is: the 'increments' offered by the GPO are a bit lacking. 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours and then 1 day! What if I would like 4 hours? How do I get '4 hours' as an option to this? An option specifically for Idle Session..... And, for Active Session - what if I would like 8 hours as an option? Thanks, Cary

logon problem
by Guest modalit@hotmail.com- 1 reply

Hi, I have found this forum in desperation, would be grateful for any advice. We have a network with 4x terminal servers serving up to around 20 users each. We have a problem when users log on to terminal sessions, where after a user provides user/password and appears to authenticate, the blue background (that I take to be the first stage of drawing the desktop) appears but the session does not progress further, no taskbar, no desktop icons, just the pointer. Nothing works, and the only way we have found to rectify the problem is for an admin to reset the session through terminal services manager. This problem appears to happen randomly - it can affect an…

We are using Windows Server 2003 Enterprise as a Terminal Server. It was installed and activated in 2005. This morning it would not allow any of the users to log-on, and every user was presented with the Activation Wizard, telling that the Windows needs to be activated before it can be used. The Event 1000 was logged-on in the event log Event Type: Error Event Source: Windows Product Activation Event Category: None Event ID: 1000 Date: 10/1/2008 Time: 7:16:23 AM User: N/A Computer: FSDTS2 Description: An error occurred while the wizard was checking the current Windows product license. by Guest Quirin Pasquay- 3 replies
- 366 views
Hello, we have a windows 2003 (sp2) terminlalserver enviroment. I've installed a Brother HL 1450 with an optional paper tray on my local workstation via usb. If I login to the rdp session I can see my local printer redirected. But the configuration that I made on my local printer driver (paper tray, duplex ect.) are not there. If I make the changes on the server they are lost after logging off. Is it possible, that the windows termianlserver reads the configuration from my local workstation? Thanks Quirin Pasquay

How to disable logging of failed printer installation
by Guest Brian- 7 replies
Various client stations of my terminal servers have virtual printers (CutePDFWriter, etc.) that do not exist on the TS. I would actually prefer that clients disable printer connections, but that does not always get done, and so it fills up the TS event log with pairs of 1106/1111 errors. (printer could not be installed / Driver... is unknown) What is the registry entry for disabling logging of printer installation-related events on the TS?

User Profile hangs
by Guest td- 7 replies
I have a user that when he logs onto our TS 2003 box it hangs at loading your personal settings. He did not have any issues in the past. This has just started happening. I was going to rename his current profile and let him log on and then I would just copy over what he needed from his old profile to the new one but.....when I try to rename the old profile it says Access is denied. Make sure disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not in use. I am assuming that there is a file within this profile that is locked or hung by the system. Is there anyway to unlock it without restarting the server? IS there anyway to see what file is locked in t…

Hello, Following situation: We have installed a terminal server farm with two terminal servers and a session broker. The problem: We cant open a connection with the RemoteDesktopClient from computers to the farm, which are in the same domain as the farm. The following error occurs: An authentification error occured (Code: 0x80090327) RDC runs normally from computers which are not in the same domain as the farm... We did the following until now: we created a certificate request for our two terminal servers, with the name of the serverfarm: farm1. Our Certification Authority signed it. Then the signed ceritificate was implemented in both term…

Aero - cannot get it run
by Guest Thorsten Butz- 6 replies

Has anyone ever tried to get Aero run from a TS-client? I do not speak about "theory" - I mean: did you see it yourself? From my point of view it should be possible to view Aero-style-seamless-windows (or remoteapps) if you fullfill the following requirements: - Desktop Experience + Themes-service + Vista-Style at the Terminal Server - Allow 32-bit color depth in the TS-Settings at the server - Have aero enabled at the client and choose "Desktop composition" and "Font smooting". I tried it several times and never succeeded. I have an aero-capaple (and of course enabled) WS 2008-Client, I see Vista-style-windows but no transparency. Did you get it r…

Event 4105 on licence server
by Guest Sven Vollmann- 2 replies
hello, we use a windows 2008 licence server that is not installed on a dc and use "per user" cals for our 2008 ts farm. on our licence server we see in the eventlog the warning 4105 that means that the licence server cannot update the ad user properties when he delivers the cals. we have discovered that the terminalserver-licenceserver group is under the security properties of the user listed but has no rights. by new created users the rights "terminalserver-licenceserver read" and "terminalserver-licenceserver write" are automatically set for this group. if we set this rights manual the warning disappears in the eventlog. my question now is: how can we…

By default in the RDP login screen, under Options/ Local Resources, the Printers checkbox is check, is there a way to change this to uncheck and let the end users themselves to determine whether or not to "bring" local printers over to TS? Thanks in advance.

RDP on Desktops fails to connect to Server windows 2003
by Guest Zoddy- 1 reply

We have our windows 2003 server with just the regular remote administration so administrators can log on and check out the server etc. Every once in a while RDP to this particular server just stops working. when you go into the server there are no obvious errors but the following is true: 1. Terminal Services is started but the option to stop or restart is grayed out 2. RPC service as well is the same issue 3. If you go into the Terminal Service manager and try to reset the RDP-TCP listener you get the following error Session ID (65536) reset Failed Error 5 - Access is denied and yes I am logged on as the domain admin in this case:) This doesnt …

by Guest Tom Decaluwé- 2 replies

Hi, On the MSTSC client TS gateway tab you now have the option "bypass TS gateway server for local addresses" My question is, what does the client concider to be local? when does it decide yes i need to use the TS gateway or no i don't i can directly connect? 1) does it look at the local NIC subnet 2) does it look at AD sites and services 3) does it do some sort of connection test 4).... what determins the local yes or no answer? As a second question i see you can select auto detection for TS gateway, but how does this work? 1) does it broadcast for a TS gateway 2) does it query AD for TS gateway servers 3) does it look at specific DNS recor…

USB 2.0 Redirect Options with Native 2003 Terminal Services
by Guest Tim S- 3 replies
All, I have a two part question: 1. With terminal services in Windows 2003 and WYSE terminals running embedded XP, is it possible to have reliable USB 2.0 redirection? We have tried this shareware without a lot of luck and their support is less than adequate. http://www.usb-redirector.com/downloads.html What we are trying to do is install digital camera software on the terminal sever and load pictures from the USB 2.0 cable locally at the WYSE terminal. The camera needs to be a drive letter for the workflow to be acceptable. Are there known third party solutions that will do this without breaking the bank? 2. Is this even an issue with Windo…

Hi, I published RemoteAPP for two different applications in my TS Server 2008. In the client computers, I need to save two different Windows usernames for these two RemoteAPP sessions. But, the problem is, the RDP RemoteAPP is able to save only one username for both the sessions. Can anybody suggest how to do this as per my above requirement. RE: 2003 Terminal services connections Hi guys Need a bit of advice if you wouldnt mind. I have setup a TS with two applications that the users need. I have locked it down with a TS GP and everything is working correctly. I have also written a GP to put an RDC connection on clients that need it to allow them to connect to the session. The issue I have is all the clients currently connect to X Domain and the terminal server is on Y. I dont want to have to create them accounts on the Y Domain to allow them to login so I wanted to utilise a single account. However I am finding if a user is logged in on one machine and I try and login as the same user …

Hi all, I have a multi-site client using Windows Enterprise (32bit) server 2003 in NLB with 2 TS servers. They have various printers on hte remote sites. We have a 10Mb Leased line in the main office with VPN connection to the remote offices. Remote offices have 4Mb Leased lines. Internet traffic is sent via a separate ADSL line and all office work is over the VPN's The VPN is set to allow ALL traffic, so no restrictions on ports etc, all traffic is allow both ways but only through the tunnels (i.e. no direct connection to the internet via the leased lines/routers.) The problem I have is that whn the printers have Bi-Directional printing enabled and SN…
