TS Web Monitoring
by Guest Mark McWilliams- 0 replies
Does anyone know of any free or inexpensive software to do web url monitoring of my terminal services users? I've tried the packet sniffer Wireshark on my network but all it shows is the IP address of my application server which all users go through for the Internet but not down to the user level. I'm not wanting to do web filtering but just create some simple reports of what users are going where. Thanks...Mark McWilliams

TS Licensing - practical help
by Guest Jeff Whitehead- 1 reply

I've taken over a network running Windows 2003 AD, with a Terminal Server. We now need to move the Terminal Server (built on a PC with Windows 2003 Server installed) onto new hardware. Unfortunately, there is no documentation available to tell me where the license server etc are installed.... I know the following: The TS box is called 'Term-svr', is set up as 'Per User' and has 10 TS 'User' CALs installed. The licenses were all purchased under a MS Select agreement. I've opened 'Active Directory Sites and Services' app on one of the DCs and found that the 'TS-Enterprise-License-Server' entry is listed as Term-svr (the TS box itself). I…

Hi, Environment : windows Server 2000 with Terminal server My desktop application is installed on Windows 2000 Terminal server and is being used by the clients over the internet using Remote Desktop client on their machines. For new clients i would request their IT department to open up the terminal services port in their firewall and boom the client uses the application over remote desktop. but with this new client the only port they can have open is port 80 (which is not a problem since i can change remote desktop server to listen on port 80 instead of the default remote desktop port since my server does not have IIS) but the main problem is that …

VPN + RDC = NO GO? SBS 2k3?
by Guest Ryan- 0 replies

I'm in the middle of converting our SBS 4.5 (NT4) server to a 2k3 server. We're currently using some Cisco hardware to VPN to the office, and then remote desktop to a workstation by hostname. This works fine with NT4. If I change my workstation to the new domain I can log in once. Then if I try to log again later I get a message that I do not have access to logon to the session. I'm trying to figure out what's going on here? Is this something to do with terminal server licensing on 2003? It seems a bit odd that I'd be affected by this since I am using some VPN hardware rather than the tsweb on the 2003 default webpage to connect to our workstations. C…

[W2003] 120-day limit expired
by Guest Gilles Ganault- 2 replies
Hello On a spare PC that runs W2003, the 120-day grace period for Terminal Services expired, so I can no longer connect to it with RDP. Since this is seldom used, I don't need user accounts on this thing, and can just as well connect as admin. I seem to recall W2003 offers two free admin connections, so I wouldn't need to buy TS CAL's. Can someone tell me 1) if it's possible to downgrade to this two-connection configuration 2) how to do it, in newbies terms (not a Windows expert) Thank you.

by Guest Ste- 3 replies

Hello all, I've a domain (A) with two terminal servers as frontend for access to some applications. My domain has an external with domain B to allow users in domain B to login in my domain. Now user user01@B logon in my terminal server. How can I make this user to have a roaming profiles? I read I'ev to setup using a GPO in domain B. Problem is that in domain B there's another Terminal Server that do not need roaming profiles. So, how can I create a group policy that remains applicable only during logon in my terminal services? Thanks Stefano

I have these two win 2003 servers, exact install / license. One of which I've terminal desktoped into for the last year and half with no problems many many times. The other, I've rarely if ever, but I just enabled remote access and it works fine. Back about a month ago (and not sure if related - likely not) I remoted into another domain. After that I started gettting these errors when attempting to connect to the first server: The remote session was disconnected because the local computer's client access license could not be upgraded or renewed. When I tried to connect from another client Id get the same error eliminating my client. When I attemp…

I have a windows 2K server running TS, up until recently all my users have been windows XP pro clients. As expected when they first connect they get a temporary license, when that license expires it get converted to a "FREE" license. However recently some users are using Vista, so I purchased 10 cals which where TS 2K3 License cal, but was told they are backward compatible. As expected all the Vista Client can now connect as their temporary license have been converted to a purchased CAL. My problem is that the Windows XP Pro machines are now taking up these purchased license, and not be converting to the "Free License" in two weeks nearly call the purc…

by Guest mmm- 3 replies

Terminal services was installed in Application mode about 20 days ago. I'm now getting a message that states the computer needs to coonect to a Windows 2003 server TS License server within 14 days. I looked at the date stamps in the event log and everything looks fine. There was no jump in date. I'm still testing software and have to verify to management that everthing works prior to purchasing CALS. Any idea why I'm not getting the 120 days grace period?
