User can't connect to Windows 2000 Terminal Server using RDC 2.0Beta 2 for Mac
by Guest Jon Sherry- 2 replies

Hi, I've been running Win2K Terminal Services for quite some time, and I'm looking to upgrade a Mac user to the new client, since the old one is bit buggy on Intel Macs. The user gets: "You were disconnected from the Windows-based computer because there were problems during the licensing protocol. Try reconnecting to the Windows-based computer, or ask your administrator if the license is properly configured." The log on the client shows: 2008-02-07 11:25:11.015 Remote Desktop Connection[374] Disconnect code class: 0, main reason:8, error code: 8 2008-02-07 11:25:11.015 Remote Desktop Connection[374] Main disconnect reason code is 0x0. 2008-02-07 11:25:34.…

Hello, we have a windows2003 r2 with terminal services installed, it is licence server too for 60 ts device cal. Now we add another windows2003 64x, in the same domain, also as terminal and we must purchase other ts cal licence. The domain controler is a third mahine with Win2003 r2. This time we preferer user licence. I need to activate another licence server for the new server, or I connect to the first one? Can I have two licence server, one in device and the other in user mode? It's better I remove the first licence server and activate it on the domain controller in user mode for all the tscal? Thanks.

Set Flash Player to low quality
by Guest Jeroen- 5 replies

Hi, I've asked on several Flash forums but none of them gave me an answer that makes sense. All they could say was to set the quality to low using the script, but it that's no option for websites from all over the world. I don't have source access. ;) Does anyone know of some kind of GPO or regkey that forces the quality of the player to low on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server? Thanks in advance, Jeroen

Window Pop Ups Over a Remote Desktop Fullscreen Possible?
by Guest Lavarinth- 1 reply
Hi, I work in a company where all work is done over remote desktop connections to the server. Is it possible, while in full screen, to allow window pop ups to occur over the full screen? We recently installed a LAN messenger program to interact with other clients, and we're having difficulties since someone will not see the new message received via the new pop-up window since it wont appear over the fullscreen of remote desktops. If it's not maximized it works fine, however requires scrolling in the desktop. Also, it appears some computers react to setting remote desktop to a lower priority and the messenger to a higher priority, but other computers …

Server 2003 Standard vs. Server 2003 Enterprise
by Guest Mike_g- 4 replies

I have seen some comments on the net that stated you can only have two TS sessions on a machine with Windows Server 2003 Standard loaded and if I want more concurrent TS Sessions I would need to purchase the Enterprise version. These references are all pretty old. Is that still true?

Icons rearrange themselves
by Guest exg001@gmail.com- 1 reply

Hello all. I have one user who only logs in through a thin client. She says that during the day, her icons will rearrange themselves for no reason. She has them all set around some picture on her desktop, and then it sounds like an auto arrange happens to put them all in the one side. She says she isn't logging out or anything, they just change whenever they want to. Ok, to me, it's something she's doing. Or another user screwing with her. I know I know, I should have more faith in my users, but...what else could it be? Any ideas? Oh by the way, the setup: (we are old school) Windows Nt 4.0 Terminal Server Citrix Metaframe 4.0 Thanks. TS Client(or server) loses ability to cut and paste between local and remote session
by Guest Herb Martin- 5 replies

TS Client(or server) loses ability to cut and paste between local and remote session or between two remote sessions. Cut and paste generally works -- but from time to time (and recently more frequently again) this just stops working between sessions and local computer. This happens with BOTH the Remote Desktop MMC and the normal Remote DeskTop client (all current updates applied to all involved machines.) Although this seemed to be a regular problem with Win2000 computers this problem has been for less common with XP-2003-Vista, although lately I am seeing it on all of XP, Win2003, and Vista with the server generally a Win2003 server. Quick Google se…

I have the RTM of Windows Server 2008 installed with TS in application mode and desktop experience installed. I've verified that the themes service is enabled and the vista client connects using 32-bit color. I still get the vista basic theme though, no glass. I know it's supposed to work, but I'm not sure what I'm missing. Thanks, Oren

Local Settings Folder within Roaming Profiles
by Guest lozza- 6 replies

Hey Guys, My dev setup: 2x TS Servers hooked into Session Directory. Load Balancing achieved via DNS Round Robin. Roaming User profiles being used and pointed to NAS device. Profile is stored on \\NAS\Profile\%UsernameOfEachUser% My Issue: I;ve been told to limit profiles to a max of 40MB. Desktop/Start Menu/Application Data/My Documents all redirected to their own folder on the NAS. i.e. \\NAS\RedirectedMyDocuments\%username%, \\NAS\RedirectedDesktop\%username%, \\NAS\RedirectedStartMenu\%username%, \\NAS\RedirectedApplicationData\%username%.... This I believe prevents the size of these folder counting towards the profile size as these folder are no…

I have a question on how to use Terminal Service API. I can successfully implement it in VbScript, but I am having a very hard time doing it in .NET. The following is my code in VB.NET 2.0 (Visual Studios 2005) Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim Tsc As MSTSCLib.IMsRdpClient2 Tsc = New MSTSCLib.MsRdpClient2() Tsc.DesktopWidth = 49.5 Tsc.DesktopHeight = 50.5 Tsc.Server = "MyServer" Tsc.UserName = "twhite" Tsc.AdvancedSettings2.ClearTextPassword = "1234567" Tsc.Domain = "myDomain" Tsc.AdvancedSettings2.RedirectDrives = T…

login script
by Guest Chadder- 4 replies

I am running 2003 TS. What I would like to accomplish is to set the explorer option of "hide extensions for known file types" to be unchecked. I do not see an option in group policy but I can get this to work with a regedit /s command using a registry file and execute with a login script. This only works for domain admins and not standard users as it errors out with a permissions problem. How can I get this to work for standard users?

permissions to log off a user
by Guest Mary Rafferty- 3 replies

Is there a right or option I am missing that will allow a Terminal Server user to log off idle users? Basically, this is a case of a developer needing to update an application. They find that someone is logged on and into the application leaving the files locked. The developer is a member of the power users group, but that does not appear to provide the needed privileges. Thanks. Mary M. Rafferty mailto:mmr@vistagrande.com

Universal printing questions
by Guest Jeff Vandervoort- 1 reply

WS2003 SP2 R2 Terminal Server; Win XP SP2 clients. Redirected printers are causing spooler crashes; we need to set up a universal "driverless" printing solution. Lots of choices out there and I'd like to narrow the field. 1. Do any of the universal printing solutions work without a client? We have lots of machines that are in remote locations, all locked down so the user can't install software. Installing client software on these is not possible. If so, I'm guessing they drop a PDF file somewhere on your local disk that you have to print in Adobe Reader...am I close? 2. Do any universal TS print drivers allow users to select THEIR printer in applicatio…

server 2003 vs. server 2003 R2
by Guest JB- 1 reply

I have a TS license server (windows 2003) and I pointed a windows server 2003 R2 to it to get TS CALs, but it keeps stating no available licenses, even thought it has 40 plus licenses available, do I need a seprate windows 2003 R2 terminal server licensing server, or should the terminal server licensing server (non R2) work? I know you couldn`t use a 2000 TS license server for 2003 so am thinking you can`t use a 2003 for 2003 R2? Thanks in advance.

New Twist on Device/User License issue
by Guest Ron- 3 replies

Read many of the posts, but not seeing this one addressed yet: Went through default installation of TS and TLS and it set up licenses as per device. Unfortunately, we want (and purchased) User CALs. The server went ahead and assigned the licenses as device licenses. Now, to switch, do I still need to call the clearinghouse? If not, how do I "revoke" the 5 licenses that have been assigned to Machines and change to per user? Thanks and regards, Ron
