Local Resources - mapped client's drive has incorrect computer nam
by Guest DLecool- 19 replies

We're running a terminal server 2003 with aprox. 10 concurrent users. We are experiencing a problem where clients' mapped drives have an incorrect computer name. For example if user Joe whose computer name is JoesBox maps his local C drive and then goes to My Computer in TS, it should say "C on JoesBox Computer" but it doesn't, it may say something like "C on DavesBox Computer". The computer name seems to be the one of another user that was previously connected to TS. Browsing the drive still shows Joe's files but this incorrect computer name is freaking out our clients. It seems like terminal server is doing some caching on the computer name. Any ideas…

Getting Started

Hi all!, I'm doing research on what it will take to use Terminal Server. I already have the server quad core with 4 gig of ram, I know that i will need to add more ram. I need to know if i can use our existing hardware and what are the limitations in doing so. On the thin client, is it best to go ce? Then if there's a document to help along my way, that would be great. No i haven't setup Terminal Services on the server yet. I don't want to use Citrix at this point. Thanks for any help you can give

Terminal Services and Printer Shares
by Guest Adam- 4 replies

I have a windows 2003 server with 4 local workstations and 8 remote workstations all running Windows XP Pro connecting with RDP over DSL. The problem I am having involves printer shares at the remote locations. The software we use depends on the printers being "shared" locally on the server. The printers show up when the remote workstations log on but the "share" intermittantly disappears causing lots of frustration with getting reciepts printed and cash drawers opened. I have spoken to our software company and they are aware of this problem but after 6 years they still don't have a solution. I have contacted microsoft on several occasions and they tell …

by Guest Dennis_S- 1 reply

KB911913 describes how to modify the registry so the default printer only is redirected from each client. A hotfix with Msrdpcli.exe version 6.0.2600.0 and Tswebsetup.exe version 6.0.2600.0 also needs to be applied to the client machine(s). The clients are using XP Pro with SP2. Updates are current. Where do I find this hotfix? Thanks.

2003 Terminal Server on Active Directory Domain Controller
by Guest Dan Gray- 1 reply

Can a Windows 2003 Terminal Server also be a Domain Controller? I have one setup, but when you try to login to terminal server is says that "To logon to this Remote Computer, you must have Terminal Services users access permission, the user must be a member of the Remote Desktop Users Group". There is not a Remote Desktop Users Group as this is a Domain Controller, not a member server, so you cannot get to the local groups. If the user is in the administrator group, it works, take them out and the previous message is what you get. I have 2-2000 Active Domain Controllers and the one 2003 Domain Controller running Terminal Server and is the licensing server for…

Separate User Profiles per Locations
by Guest lozza- 5 replies

Guys, A theoretical based question. If I have a single global AD domain and I have a TS Server in London and NY, can I split configure this so when a user logs onto the TS (london) his profile will be on a NAS device in the London DC and the when the same user logs onto the TS (NY) his profile will be located in the NY Datacentre. If I put each TS into an OU of its own OU=London (for London TS) and OU=NY (for NY TS) then: I am thinking I could Apply a separate GPO to each TS OU for location and set: CC\Amin_Temp\Win_Com\Terminal Service\Set Path for TS Roaming Profile and for the London OU point it to \\London-NAS\TSProfiles and for NY OU point…

Windows 2003 Server and Terminal Server Licensing nightmare
by Guest AllenM- 3 replies

I have a few questions regarding legal licensing in a clients environment where we will be installing software and assisting them in setting up terminal and remote services. I'm not 100% sure of all the logistics but I'm going to give all the details as I know. This is new hardware (DELL 2350 64-bit) and Windows 2003 R2 Standard - 64-bit I believe. This will be a terminal server as we will be installing Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 as well as Citrix Web Interface for remote access. So Citrix licensing part is easy. no problem there concerning licensing. Here's where I'm a bit confused as to the proper licensing they need to be legally licensed. App…

Pushing Color Scheme
by Guest teenzbutler- 5 replies

I have 80 users connecting into two terminal servers running on Windows Server 2003. We implemented a new GUI program. Unfortunately, the existing color scheme is causing issues with the drop down menus. I need to change the color scheme for all users. Is there a way to push a new color scheme? Another question, is there a way to wipe out a users background so that when they log back on, it is back to the default blue?

by Guest Candace Sparks- 2 replies

Just added an additional terminal server on the network. Do not have experience with terminal server. Now, users are connecting remotely to the 1st terminal server. How can they connect to the 2nd terminal server? I have tried to connect remotely; I only know to type the Public IP address, and I connect to the 1st terminal server. I do not see an option to connect to a different server? Thank you for your help in advance! Candace Sparks

Remote Access
by Guest David- 2 replies

Hi There, We have a head office which has two terminal servers in. We have several remote sites which have Windows XP clients in. We want to impliment a system whereby when people logon to the workstations it automatically connects to the Terminal Server and when they log off the Terminal server it automatically logs them off the workstation. If an administrator logs on however they need to be able to log on locally without the terminal server connection. I know dumb terminals could be used for this but we don't want to replace the existing hardware. Is this something which can be done? Thanks in advance for any advice. David.

I am experiencing a strange occurrence on a 2003 x64 terminal server. Whenever users create a new session, they always receive an error message about a systray.exe application error. The message line is: "The exception unknown software exception (xc0000005)occurred in the application at location 0x00411a60. I can't seem to find much info on this error. It doesn't appear to be causing any problems, but it is a bit of a nuissance to our users. Any ideas?

How to debug licensing server communication error?
by Guest Sascha Ziemann- 1 reply
Hi, I have an Windows domain with terminal servers and two license servers. Everything works fine there. Now I want to install a standalone system for testing purposes, which is not part of the domain. My problem is, that the new server can not connect to any licensing server, although the network connection works pretty fine. I can ping the terminal licensing server from the new standalone terminal server. How can I debug the error? The graphical tool gives me only a pretty useless error message: "cannot connect". cu Sascha

Getting files back to the user's PC from a TS Session
by Guest John F Kappler- 1 reply

(This is a repost as no response last time!) We have a Server (2003) on a LAN with our SBServer (2003 R2). Users log in to the TS remotely in order to run an application (Sage) In the application they run reports, and, if they are in their local office, are able to print these reports on their local printer (if supported by TS). However, the application gives them the option to e-mail reports to other users, but this seems to need an e-mail client on the TS. As their are mutiple users, some of whom's mailboxes are hosted by Exchange on the SBS, and some only have local mailboxes on their PC, is there any way they can e-mail out from the TS? Alternat…
