Output from an Application - How to get it?
by Guest John F Kappler- 2 replies

We have a Server (2003) on a LAn with our SBServer (2003 R2). Users log in to the TS remotely in order to run an application (Sage) In the application they run reports, and, if they are in their local office, are able to print these reports on their local printer (if supported by TS). However, the application gives them the option to e-mail reports to other users, but this seems to need an e-mail client on the TS. As their are mutiple users, some of whom's mailboxes are hosted by Exchange on the SBS, and some only have local mailboxes on their PC, is there any way they can e-mail out from the TS? Alternately, they could save the reports as PDF files, b…

by Guest Jim- 4 replies

Hi, I have a Windows 2003 terminal server licensed for 30 concurrent user connections and a license server issuing per device TS CALs. The users on the terminal server access mapped drives on a third Windows 2003 server. If I add five users on the terminal server do I need 5 more TS CALS, 5 more user CALS on the TS _and_ 5 more user CALS on the third (drive mapped) server? TIA --

Windows 2003 server Is there any way I can receive an e-mail notification when all connections currently open are in the "disconnected" state? We're getting into our company's busy season and updates need to be applied as quickly as possible, but I can't reboot if someone has an active connection.

On Dec 31, I posted about a problem I was having with terminal services sessions failing to log on. I wrote: "We recently installed SP2 on a base 2003 standard server via windows update. Since the installation, we receive "warning" event 244 ("Failed to create a desktop due to desktop heap exhaustion") and all subsequent logons of remote desktops fail, with no further error messages. One or possibly two logons work, then the the warning message is issued, and further logons fail until the system is rebooted...." I received a number of useful suggestions, which I appreciate including detailed instructions on how to install dheapmon (that worked, BTW). …

I am new to TS and just installed a TS 2003 server for a workgroup. I was wondering if it is possible to setup a client session like this: When the user clicks on the TS client icon, it will open a specific application and not give them access to the full desktop.

Application only works in install mode
by Guest jkf1024- 0 replies

On a Windows 2003 SP1 Terminal Server, I have installed an application. Before installation, I used the "change user /install" command. After installation, I used "change user /execute." The application connects to a repository on a remote SQL server for authentication. The problem is user log in fails if the server is in excecute mode. If I change it back to install mode they are able to log in. We have tested multiple times with the same credentials so it's not a case of mistyping. I have also tried reinstalling using Add/Remove Programs but the the result is the same.

Spell check options on TS x64 with Outlook Express
by Guest Jerry Alan Braga- 1 reply

I know of the issues with this and how microsoft in their wisdom will not implement a fix for this. Are there any workarounds. We do have office XP installed on the TS and that installs the spell check dlls that work on our x32 systems. Can you not somehow remove the x64 OE and install somehow the x32 OE, or are there other ways to get spell check to work.

We have had a TS (Win2K3 SE R2 32 bit) running with no problems with Office 2003 installed for months. It is connected to SBS 2003 R2 and we use the Exchange Server. Max is 10 simultaneous TS users - usual load is between 3 -5. Since upgrading to Office 2007, the server completely hangs every few days. The error message we get is: EventType officelifeboathang, P1 outlook.exe, P2 12.0.6023.5000, P3 ntdll.dll, P4 5.2.3790.3959, P5 NIL, P6 NIL, P7 NIL, P8 NIL, P9 NIL, P10 NIL. We noticed the problem after installing the Office 2007 Service Pack. We have since uinstalled the SP as well as Office 2007, reinstalling only Office 2007. HELP!!!

How to change Regional Settings on Terminal Services?
by Guest Rick- 5 replies
I have a single domain running Windows 2003 Small Business Server R2 SP2. Within the domain I have a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 running Terminal Services. I placed the TS in a seperate OU and created a loopback gpo. How do I go about changing the regional setting for date to be International Date Format (yyy/mm/dd) for everything on the TS? Loging in as the remote Administrator I can make the change but that only affects my Admin profile. I noticed in 'advanced' that I can apply the change to the Default Users as well (so I did). But that doesn't seem to have any affect on existing domain users who RDC to the TS. Must I be physically located at the TS console…

TS Authentication
by Guest Rick- 1 reply

I have a single domain running Windows 2003 Small Business Server R2 SP2. Within the domain I have a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 running Terminal Services. All Users have already authenticated with the DC (SBS) before being allowed access to the TS. I have 2 questions: 1. When the User connects to the TS via RDC s/he is always asked to logon yet again. This time however the RDC logon prefixes the User Logon ID with the TS name (i.e. APPserver\Rick). It is a real pain having to delete the prefix each time. Can this be overridden since there are no local accounts for Users on the TS server? They authenticate using the DC logon (and get a 'loopback' gpo applie…

Hi, "... unable ot open shim database version registry key - v2.0.50727.00000". I always had this error in my event viewer but because it doesn't had any negative effects on my machine I didn't installed the hotfix and waited for the next visual studio 2005 service pack that contains this hotfix, like they recommend in kb 918642. Now I don't get this error anymore. Is this hotfix now relased, how can I check this?

Terminal Server 2003
by Guest Dave Leonardi- 3 replies

Good Afternoon, I had a quick question regarding our Windows 2003 Terminal Server and newly acquired WYSE Thin Clients. We managed to establish sound between both products, but are now experiencing choppy sound (buffering) when we try to watch live streaming video ie: CNN, through a RDP session. I work for a school district and the teachers are planning to utilize certain sites with live streaming video. I would appreciate it if someone could provide assistance with a possible terminal server or WYSE setting, configuration solution. Is it possible to temporary block the Internettraffic from one room by using the client names? -- Olle G Olsson Ostersund Jamtland Sweden e-post olle.olsson (then) at (and) zonline.se

I'm setting up my first server in order to offer Terminal Services over an SSL/VPN. I can't seem to find any articles on AD/OU structures that I can use in this scenerio. I have one server, which will be serving a very small group of people for starters (< 5). Almost all will be connecting over the VPN. The server will be the Terminal Server, Terminal License Server and the Domain Contoller as it is the one and only server in the Domain. Can you help me or point me to where I can get the info? Thank you.

Licenses Expiration Explanation Please
by Guest rushjk@gmail.com- 3 replies
I have 700 Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server Per Device CAL Tokens. Currently, all 700 appear to be issued in Terminal Server Licensing, and none are available. However, when I look through the lists of tokens, many (almost 100) appear to be expired already. Why would these not become available in the pool again? Am I not really out of licenses? I bought 50 recently and added them to the pool when I thought that they were out. Are they not really out? Do I need to keep throwing money at MS? What am I to do? Thanks in advance for any help.

TSCLIENT Drives only partly mapping
by Guest michael.middleton@gmail.com- 4 replies
- 286 views
Clients connecting from the Internet or through a VPN sometimes do not get their local drives mapped. What usually happens is that an icon will show up that says it's a "system folder", but they will get an access denied/resource not available error if they try to click on it. Again, this only happens about 30% of the time, and not to all clients. I've even had it happen to me once internally (out of 20 connection attempts) - however it's definitely more predominant from outside the network. Any help is appreciated.

remotely controlling dial-up sessions on a win2k3 terminal server...
by Guest Brad Pears- 2 replies
This is frustrating as heck... We have a few users that are on dial-up from their home location. From time to time I have to remote control their sessions to look at something that is going on etc... When I remote control one of these sessions, it is as slow for me as it is them (screen refreshing etc...) which is very annoying. Is there any way to get around this? It seems very odd that I too should be faced with a sluggish session when I am controlling a session that is running on my local server! (which is about 20ft away from me!!) Help! Thanks, Brad

Hi, If we are to setup 6 Windows 2008 Terminal Servers and want to have them participate in a Terminal Server farm using session manager broker for load balancing, at the same time, have them run behind one gateway server so these servers do not have outward facing public address. Is this possible? Would roles for RemoteApp, Gateway Service and Session Broker all run on one single server apart from 6 of the Terminal Server that actaully have applications installed? Thanks.

Per user licensing
by Guest Andrea Caldarone- 1 reply

Hi all, I've a Windows 2003 Server R2 Enterprise Edition SP2 with terminal services installed, I've set this server's licensing mode as "per user". I've a Windows 2003 Server R2 Standard Edition SP2 with licensing server installed, I've bought 10 TSCAL "per user" and installed on it. Into the terminal server configuration I've specified that the license server hav not to be discovered automatically but it have to be the machine on wich I've installed the license server, all things seems to work fine. In my license server I see that all 10 TSCAL are "available" but there are several days that at least 6 user access the terminal server, what's wrong?

MSCS on TS server?
by Guest mst3in@gmail.com- 1 reply

Anyone every tried to make a single-node MSCS cluster out of each TS in the farm? I hate services - I suck at writing them. Its a lot easier for me to develop bots/tools for monitoring and whatnot if I make them desktop- interactive and just run it with local admin rights. At the moment, for said bots/tools, I log into a console session, and start them. Its a problem if the box reboots do to updates or scheduled restart and I'm sleeping so I can't log in to strt said bots. Now, MSCS has that generic application resource which I have found to be rather awesome on our multi-node file and database clusters....it can start my bot with or without a console s…

IE6 Slow on MSTS Windows Server 2003
by Guest Jez- 1 reply

I have several users connecting to a terminal server and trying to browse the web using IE6 on the TS. They seem to be fine using their apps but when browsing the web its painfully slow as the graphics take ages to load and keep rebuilding line by line etc. I have tried reducing the clour depth to 8 bit, the problem improves slightly but is still not great. Is there any further way to optimise IE6 to help these guys? Jeremy
