DNS Load Balancing with Session Directory
by Guest lozza- 2 replies

Hi All, I have currently built a Clustered Session Directory Resource group. This seems to be working just fine i.e. the the cluster group fails over and back and all resources come online. My next step is to build and hook the TS Servers to this session directory using either Local Policy or GPO to join them to session directory Our hardware load balancer has yet to be configured and this wont be done anytime soon i have been told. So, my question is in the Interim, can I still set this up i.e. build three TS Servers and hook them into the session directory and use DNS Based load balancing for the time being. Obviously we wont be able prevent clie…

Ok, this issue has happened to me twice now. Both are the same type of Windows Servers - AD controller with Fax software installed. Both are in different offices in different domains. I connected using RDP, not connecting to the console. When I tried to restart the server, it disconnected my terminal session, logged the following event in the sys log: 1074 "The process svchost.exe has initiated the restart of computer **** on behalf of NT Authority\System.... The system never restarted and now I can't reconnect with remote desktop. Problem is, this system is in another office without an onsite tech support person. The system is up and all servi…

by Guest dave m- 5 replies

I have recently setup a TS and don't have much, if any experience with TS tools. My servers are Server 2003, SP2. I purchased 10 licenses and set them up per device. I setup a TS license server and the four users that so far are using TS have had no problems. TS was setup in Bldg A and current TS users are in Bldg A, IT staff remoring to workstations and servers in other buildings, or connecting tho the TS server from Bldg B. Now I have a staff that needs to connect from bldg A to a server in Bldg C where there are files that are to be modified and used on a regular basis. Do I need to add TS as a service on the server in bldg C ?? What basic st…

Terminal Services Roaming Profiles
by Guest Irnbru- 3 replies

I'd appreciate any thoughts on the following issue... I have a farm of 5 Windows 2003 SP1 Citrix servers, to which users are connecting via Windows XP. On one of my servers I've created a new share called \\Servername \TSProfiles$ and configure the permissions appropriately. Then for testing I used the terminal services profile tab on my AD user account in order to point to the folder. \\Servername\TSProfiles$ \%username%. Unfortunately when logging on to Citrix or when using RDP itself, it won't create a roaming profile. I've used this exact process within a single server VirtualPC instance and it worked fine, however there are vast differences in the …

Terminal Server Print Spooler stopping unexpectedly
by Guest Dennis_S- 1 reply

I have two Terminal Servers running 2003 SP2. I have a problem with Print Spooler stopping unexpectedly. It may happen twice some days, and then it may go days without happening. May happen during the day or at midnight. I have tried to establish a pattern with users printers. During peak hours there may be around 40 printers displayed in the Printers and Faxes. Mainly HPs, some Brothers, and a few Lexmarks. On the other Terminal Server this happens much less frequently, but does happen. Last time on this server was almost one month ago, but happened three days in a row. Only about 15 users. Microsoft pinpointed a Lexmark E210 driver in a DMP I…

Configure Clients
by Guest Jeff Pitsch- 1 reply

You need to make sure that the print drivers are fully tested and then installed on the terminal server. You can also use the GPO for enabling fallback drivers. The key is to make sure you have tested your print drivers because many (most) 3rd party print drivers are not compatible with terminal services. They will cause all sorts of issues from crashing the print spooler to bluescreening the server itself. Other than that, printing is enabled by default on the client and server. Still getting warning that licensing TS will expire
by Guest Toluene- 3 replies

A client has called for some help with their TS. They had a 2000 single server domain with TS Licensing running. A 2003 server has been added and to the domain. This server is running TS Licensing that is activated with 20 installed licenses. It is reporting 42 days before TS is turned off. We tried reactivating. When TS Licensing MMC is opened on the 2003 server, only the 2000 License server shows. The 2003 license server can be connected to from the action menu and then shows the 20 2003 licenses available but it does not appear to be issuing licenses.

Hi all, We currrently have a win 2000 Server with 25 TS Licenses on it. I'd like to add a second server, with an additional 25 Licenses on it, and have a 2003 Server I'd like to use for this. I tried to research what I would have to do , and am very confused. Can the 2000 and 2003 servers co-exist with 25 Licenses each , or do I have to upgrade my existing 2000 server to 2003 and upgrade my 2000 TS Licemces to 2003 ? Any help would be appreciated. Scott

We have a remote office connecting to the main office through hardware vpn, using RDP. The software is installed on the server. When we connect to the terminal server with logon other than the administrator we are able to open 4 of the 5 modules no problem, but cannot run the other module. When we logon on as administrator, we can run all the modules. Do we have to install software on each one of the profiles of the remote users? There is other software the integrates with the main software, and it does not run as it should when logged on as a user other than the administrator. Managing a local scanner
by Guest Mario - Roma- 2 replies

I need to let applications running on a Terminal Server (Windows Server 2003 based) acquire documents from the local scanner connected to the client PC where my RDP client runs. I am quite sure that: - Use of local scanners is not supported with Microsoft Terminal Services - Use of local scanners is suopported while implementing Citrix Presentation Server Is there any other way to let applications running on the TS acquire pages from a local scanner? I found some shareware tools that publish the scanner in a web page managed by the client PC, but it does not fit my needs. I need something to "share" or "publish" a TWAIN driver.
