GP/OU Question
by Guest porbarfarms@gmail.com- 3 replies

We have a Windows 2003 DC that is also running TS -we know, not recommended. We know that when you have TS as member server, you setup a new OU and move the TS into it. Then create/link a GP to it... This is probably a stupid question, but we are needing reassurance in our particular setup that this step of creating a new OU and linking a GP to it is not necessary since we would be moving the DC out of its OU and into another -does not sound like a good idea or necessary in our case? Hence, it looks like we will just be modifying the Default GP for the Remote users connecting to the DC/TS? Thanks in advance!

Terminal Server license transfer or re-license - How?
by Guest Sam Munzani- 1 reply

Hi, Our company acquired a small company who had Windows 2003 running great plaines accounting software with Terminal Server. Since we needed this box to join our AD domain, we simply ran dcpromo and removed AD from it and made it join our domain. Its part of our AD domain now but that introduced a few issues. 1. SQL server doesn't start because the pre-requisite services don't start. It doesn't tell me what services it really depends on. In the dependency tab, nothing is listed. 2. TS licensing service doesn't start and gives me event ID 44 that the local group doesn't exist. Since this is not a stand alone server, I created a group manually to AD …

Drive Mappings
by Guest Chu17- 1 reply

We have about 50 users that we want to send a RDP icon to. This rdp icon launches the user directly into an application which is being accessed through a terminal server to a stand alone Windows 2003 server. Using the my credentials I mapped a drive on the terminal server to the application on the standalone server. My problem is that when a user launches the RDC icon they are not pre-mapped on the terminal server to the share on the standalone server which causes the application not to launch and they get bounced out of the session. Is there a way to map these users to the application server without using a group policy in active directory. In order to us…

Program Won't Launch in Terminal Server, Will Launch Otherwise
by Guest Rosman Computing- 2 replies

My client is using Windows 2003 SR2, "relaxed" security. They are also running Citrix on the server. They just switched to this new Server...they are running a CRM program called Maximizer which is supposed to launch a small word processor. It's a relatively small program. When you are at this machine from within the building, the program launches normally. When you login as a client through Terminal Services, nothing happens. I tried making this file an EXE and lanching it from out side the program, but when you double-click it, nothing happens. This program has a few DLL dependcies it uses...like Winfax.dll in the \SYSTEM32 directory, a spelllcheck in t…

Hello, We have a really strange problem with two WIN2K3 terminal servers. Hopefully someone can help me with this problem because I really don't have any options left. The situation is like this: We have two terminal servers in the Netherlands, about 20 people that work in Belgium are using these servers over a 2 mbit connection. This line is a dedicated line and traffic that comes from printers has lower priority than 'normal' traffic. According to the ISP the connection is not fully used. The users that work in Belgium are complaing about a really slow performance of the screen and programs (they see the screen being buil…

I hava a user at one of our remote sites that uses RDP to one of our terminal servers. He can work fine on the machine until he leaves the machine for 5-10min. If he then tries to use the RDP session, he finds that it has been disconnected and has to log on again. This only happens when he leaves the PC. I have check the idle timeout on the terminal server (TS + Server 2003+SP2) and this is set for 2 hours, so it should not be timing out. I have pinged a server at the remote site and it is always responding so I know the VPN connection is working. I have checked his PC (XP) settings and it does not go into standby or hibernation. Any ideas? Regards Andy…

Win2k3 TS intermittent performance issues
by Guest David S- 1 reply

We are running Win2k3 TS on a dual quad core 2.66gHz with 4GB RAM and RAID 5 setup. We have about 10 users who connect to the server to run Access 2k3 databases and some SQL 2000 database functions. We are experiencing intermittent perfomance issues. Example 1: A user opens an Access db, one time it opens quickly (under15 seconds) another time it takes over 2 minutes to open. A user runs a query, one time it runs quickly, another time the exact same query takes over 2 minutes. Example 2: When browsing a directory tree either in Windows Explorer or an Open File dialog box, there is a noticable delay when trying to expand trees or when clicking on a fol…

Disable RDP encryption and compression

Hi everyone, This is my scenario. I'm working with Windows Server 2003 Std Edition + SP2 as a Terminal Server and windows CE 4.2 device-based connected with wireless network. I need to know two things: - Disabling encryption and compression, terminal services performance for playing video can be improved?? If so, how can I disable encryption and compression between client and server - Is there a way to optimize or improve terminal service performance for playing video (encarta videos for example) using wireless network? I hope your comments, thanks. -- Saludos Pablo Toapanta N., MVP, MCSE, MCSA, MCT, MCTS, MCP Nova Devices S.A.
