Alternatives to TS... legal?
by Guest Sergio Henrique- 3 replies

Lately, I've been searching for alternatives to TS and I've found XP Unlimited (http://www.xpunlimited.com) among references to others, althought that's the only one I tested. After testing the solution I've found a great deal of confusion around it possibly being against the Micorsoft EULA, I've found arguments to either side but no official answer. So this is my question. Is this product illegal to use in my setup? Note that I don't intend to use a Windows XP machine as the server as the application's name might imply, the idea was to run the XPUnlimited server on a Windows 2003 server machine. The server license with all CAL's for each device is e…

Local drives no longer available
by Guest Brent- 4 replies

Today, for no apparent reason, my local disk drives are not listed under My Computer on my TS desktop and yes, they were there before. I haven't checked every user/computer for local drive and printers yet but the 2 TS accounts I tested on 3 computers in the last hour consistently get the same results concerning local drives; one (mine) never sees local drives in TS, the other always does (at least today). I've checked the settings in the users account on the Windows 2003 server, the RDP client and the connection properties in terminal server configuration. Everything looks right. What perplexes me is that my local drives were being mapped just yeste…

by Guest Sven W.- 5 replies

Hi there, we have the following enviroment: Windows 2000 Server with Citrix Metaframe XP. We have installed 1600 CALs. Our 1500 Users access the Servers by the Citrix Java Client. Some User receive the Message that their Access-License will expire in a few days. A view into the Terminalserver-Licensingserver showed that only 690 of 1600 CALs have been assigned. The other users have been assigned temporary licenses. Why did the Server not assign the CALs to all the users ? What happens to the Clients that have been promised that their License will expire ?` Does the Server automatically renew the licenses ? Best Regards Sven

I installed Terminal Server and created a user "Apptest" w/(Account Operator, Domain User & Desktop Remote User) membership, but evertime I try to log in from my labtop I get the message saying I don't have the rights to log in, but, I can log in as the Admin. another thing happen after I completing the Configure Your Server is, the User & Group Object is no longer in the Computer Management Console, but it's available in the Active Directory User & Computer Manager. So, my question is, what is wrong with my user not being able to connect, do I need to recreate the user in the Active Director Manager? -- Eric Miller

Lockdown Local Desktop

We need some of our domain users to connect to the TS in the domain for one purpose- -to use 1 application and nothing else. The TS is a Windows 2003 member server and the DC is SBS2000. The clients for this purpose are XP Pro. We have the following goals: 1. When the TS clients bootup, we do not want the Users to login. We want to have generic usernames, such as shopfloor1,shopfloor2, etc We want the Users to automatically login to the domain, then auto login to the TS with the same credentials, and start the application on the TS. Can we do this and how do we do it? 2. If the users close the application on the TS, we want the desktop/ workstation to …

Internet use & TS
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 1 reply

Is it best practice to let TS clients use the TS to browse the Internet or do the clients typically use their own Internet connection? We have WindowsCE-based thin-clients that need Internet access and they have this capability using IE6. Note in this case we are using TS on a DC whcih we know is not recommended. Just wondering what is best practice in if you have a TS as a member server and/or if the TS is a DC.. Thanks!

If I FIRST opens the application (for example word), and from there opens a file - it opens right away. I have tried everything - and process monitor dosn't show any activity when waiting... Implementing New Server to be TS License server
by Guest Saral6978- 3 replies
I have an existing 2003 server that has been assigned as the TS license server - However, there are no actual licenses installed beacuse the application server the clients connect to via TS is a Windows 2000 server, thus XP clients have the built-in license option. I will be putting in a new server that I want to become the new TS License server because the existing one is getting demoted to be used for something else. So, technically since I don't really having any licenses installed on the existing server since they are all using built-in licenses, once I activate the new server, will those client start getting logged and recorded on the new server a…

I know I can log onto each account individually and set it up in the IE settings for that users - is there a global setting I can make ? The trusted web site also downloads a file which I need to allow WITHOUT prompting the user to download.

Remote Desktop 6.0, changing its login behaviour
by Guest Fatboy40- 4 replies

Is it possible at all to prevent Remote Desktop 6.0 from asking for a username and password before it has actualy connected to the remote server ?. I've searched Google and can't find an answer so I thought I'd ask here. I find this new 'feature' incredibly frustrating. Also on the 'General' tab I no longer have the option to specify a username and password as the boxes no longer exist, is this correct for the new Remote Desktop 6.0 client or is something wrong with my installation of it ?. Thanks.

Prevent users from installing print drivers & Fallback terminal services enabled... print drivers still being added. I've got a pair of Terminal Servers. I have enabled the Fallback printer driver option. I have enabled the option in group policy to prevent users from installing printer drivers. I wanted to only have 2 or 3 print drivers on each server. an HP 1020, LaserJet4, and my 2x Universal Driver. Every now and then, a new printer driver shows up on the system and I get an event as shown in the snippet. I've logged into the systems from half a dozen different machines with various printers installed. I've tried user accounts that are adminis…

by Guest Markus- 6 replies

I go to start->run and then enter the string: mstsc /v:<servername> /console /f It will connect me to the server, but if someone is already logged on using session 0 (console session) I get an ID+1 session assigned to me as opposed to me bumping that person off and getting assigned ID 0. I have even created multiple connections to the same <servername> using the above command and param's ( I also connected to a <severname2> machine from my machine and attempted to get a console session started from it to <severname> to no avail). I am using Vista Enterprise on my email machine attempting to connect to win2k3 servers. Any…

Hi, We have recently installed the Sage 200 suite on a terminal server, unfortunatly one part of the software (tasklauncher.exe) will only run one instance. If i have the service started and another user logs in, the service will not start. The reg looks at the local machine and not the current user..... Does anyone know anyway around this? Any 3rd party software that wraps the software to enable it to run mult times on TS? Any help would be cool.... -- Neil

How to Setup TS User
by Guest Dave M- 4 replies

I am new admin to TS. I have a small number of users spread out over 5 locations,. I have purchased and installed TS and licenses on a member server in our main loction, all servers are 2003, SP2. I need to setup two users to logon to the TS from a remote site. Currently I setup a dummy account for the users in the OU for the remote site. After logging in to the AD, they then use Remote Desktop Connection to logon to the TS with their account in the local site. Although this seems to work I don't know if this is how TS is designed to work. The users need to logon to the main site with TS to access Access databases , they also travel between the tw…
