Will RDP 6.0 work on Windows 2000 Client?
by Guest razor- 2 replies

Hello-- We have a client that is running Windows 2000 and RDP 5.1 and trying to remote into a Terminal Server running Windows Server 2003. They just installed a new desktop printer (HP K5400) and made it their local default printer--as well as shared it. Other network printers are mapping for this client, but this new local printer is not. We are troubleshooting by seeing if we install RDP 6.0 if that will work, but wanted to get any feedback anyone has on doing this. Thanks, sd

Looking for some software for terminal server farm.

My company hosts our software on a 10-15 W2K terminal server farm for our clients. Access is controlled through an AEP NSP Tarantella secure gateway appliance. Our clients log in to the NSP gateway and then they are directed to their particular terminal server. The clients are locked down through group policies in the domain and have barely any access at all. They log in, the program launches for them and they work, etc. We are talking with a potentional client who uses a web based program currently and one thing they like about it is that as their users log in they get messages popped up to them on a 'whiteboard'. We would like to match that ability t…

Session Directory : Cluster Install
by Guest lozza- 2 replies

Guys, I have followed the Microsoft doc on this at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/840695 and I seem to be getting problems... My scenario: I have a MS Cluster configured with a cluster group that has 3 disks with SQL services, IP and name. I need to install the SessDir into this group as I cant get any more disks presented to this cluster and I believe the SessDir is very small anyway... So I follow the guide, choose the options: - Set the Session Directory services on both nodes to AUTOMATIC - make it a generic service, - Make both nodes in the cluster possible owners - have dependancies on the IP, name and ONE of the disks in the group (the o…

Terminal Server not logging off
by Guest Jimmy Jones- 3 replies

I have configured the Group Policy setting for Terminal Services to start a program on connection. This setting is supposed to logg the user off if the application is closed thus preventing users from being able to access the desktop, start menu, etc. The program starts up at logon but if the usre closes the program they are not logged off and worse they have access to the desktop and start menu. For the program path and file name I have entered explorer.exe c:\Entry.htm The working directory is c:\ The OS is Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition The server is on a domain. This was working when I had a different application and a different worki…

Not to make it fault tolerance or HA. Just a default TS installation on 1 server that is also member of cluster. note: I know jou can't run TS in a cluster only Load Balancing can be used.

Hi, We are running Windows 2003 x64 as a terminal server. We have a home user with a Laserjet 3050 but she is unable to print at home. I tried to install the x64 driver from HP but it is a univeral driver and when I try and add the 32 bit drivers in windows it will not accept them because it says they are not for that printer. How can I get this printer working for 32 bit xp pro user? Thanks Jared I tried posting this on the HP forum but got no replies and don't really know where else is best to ask.

Restrict to 1 program
by Guest Joe Letter- 9 replies

Hello, I have a win2k3 server setup as a terminal server. I have one application I would like the users to have access to. I've heard that it is possible to restrict TS so that an application starts automatically when the users login. They only have access to that program during the session and if they close the program, the TS session ends. How can this be done? Is there something step-by-step I could follow? Also, how can the be done so that I can still login remotely with the admin account and not have this restriction on my account. Thanks much! Joe.

Cannot See Redirected Drive
by Guest Alex- 4 replies

Hi, I have enabled Drive Redirection when connecting to TS. I am able to see the redirected drive (e.g. C on tsclient) in Windows Explorer. However, when I tried to save a file in Notepad, the redirected drive does not appear in the Save As dialog box. I am also wondering why there is no drive letter assigned to the redirected drive. I would appreciate someone can kindly shed some light on me. Thank you. Alex

I'm trying to remote into a console mode to a Windows 2003 server that performs some operations using a smart card connected to a remote server. When I initiate a connection, it seems that the smart card resource manager on the remote server stops running. Can someone confirm this fact? I know that it's not possible to connect to a reader that's attached to a remote machine via non-console RDP. You can only redirect local readers. However, in a console mode, it seems that you can't see any reader on either side. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

User/Group IP Address Pools - Does WTS have a similar feature as provided by Citrix pools ? Hi, anyone know if Windows Terminal Services can support the same concept as Citrix do whereby each user can be allocated a unique IP address to be used for outbound connections from that session.

Local printer not created in session
by Guest Brent- 3 replies

I have a group of 5 TS users. One has a shared Brother HL-2040 on LPT1, paralell. The rest have the networked Brother as their default printer. Until yesterday when anyone logged into TS the Brother was created as a printer in their session and they could print to it. Now only one computer (Computer A) has this printer when they log in. The local computer (Computer B) that hosts the printer does not their own printer. Another computer (how about C?) has the printer installed as a network printer on Computer B but it is not created in a TS session when they log on unless computer A is also in session. Then they see the printer as "BrotheronComputer B (fr…

TS Multiple Licenese Type Issues
by Guest SB- 1 reply

My enivonrment has a Windows 2000 Domain TS License Server running. A Windows 2003 Enterprise License server was added to the domain but not assigned any licences. This server had its Enterprise TS Licenesing component uninstalled, and then removed from the domain. This caused our existing systems to warn us that they couldn't locate their license server and the client licenses were going to expire. I found the following article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304080/en-us which outlines how to undo a Domain TSLS that was changed to an Enterprise TSLS. Since our original TSLS was never touched and the reg key outlined in the article indicated a D…

Hi There are new RDP file settings for version 6 but I have been unable to locate the documentation that describes them all. It appears that the documentation only refers to version 5. Can some one tell me where to find the documentation for version 6? If it does not exist when will it be available since version 6 has been around for a while now?

Hello, is there a way to deny access to certain USB devices pre user or user- group? I know the various programs to hide/lock media devices, but since I'm trying to hide whole devices (such as dongels) those utilities are no use :( But I think there has to be the possiblity to do this in a multi-user enviroment!? Thanx in advance, Seppel

Unwanted drivers keep re-installing
by Guest Christian- 1 reply

(Posted this on the Citrix support site, but I thought someone here might have an idea as well): Running a PS4.0 Ent farm with HFR4. When I review the servers in the CMC, and look at the drivers tab on the print server properties of the Citrix server, I keep getting unwanted drivers installed on the server. I've done the following to avoid this, which does not appear to be working: - Admin Tools > Terminal Services Config - Disabled Windows printer mapping and LPT port mapping for the RDP-Tcp protocol to prevent installs in RDP sessions - Applied a Citrix policy to all servers with the following: Native printer driver auto install > Do not aut…

Application access using TS and Virtual Private Server
by Guest ThomasAJ- 1 reply

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I have gone to others without much useful feedback. Currently my VB app runs on the office W2003 server and is accessed by users via TS over a LAN. All works well. We are expanding and so I want to serve up the app. to multiple offices using TS. OK so I can use the existing setup and have remote users use Remote Desktop but the UPLOAD speed from my server to the internet is 384K max and is too slow. Faster upload costs big bucks in Australia. So I toyed with VPS and have set up an account but even doing admin work tells me it is way too slow. So how do companies serve out their apps to remote offices using TS an…

Hi We have a Terminal Server 2003 (Member server) in our AD and I am the administrator. Currently when I login as Administrator I don't have administrative rights but if I login with my own username/password I do. What I don't understand is that both my own user and the Administrator are members of <Domain>\Administrators, Domain Admins and Enterprise Admins but why the difference in rights when logged on to the TS? We have a GPO set for the TS which sets Restricted Groups like this: Group: BUILTIN\Administrators Members:<Domain>\Administrators_company Member of: BUILTIN\Administrators The Administrators_company is a group with some of the sup…

Terminal Server Login Session Usage Monitoring
by Guest rncota- 1 reply
In Terminal Server, is there a way to determine the web usage, like what sites and things like that, that each login session is using? Like a type of monitoring. An example, we use Sonicwall Viewpoint to monitor our traffic through our firewall, but since we route all our Thin clients for TS through a proxy server, the usage stats just show up under the proxy server name. Is there any way to get individual usage statics for each login session? Thanks for your help.

I know, not recomended that TS be on a DC. The thin- clients run WindowsCE 5.0 and will use RDP to connect to the TS. SHould the thin-clients use their own IE browser to use the Internet, or use it throguh the RDP session on the TS? Thanks

No access to flash. shockwave flash objects and manage add-ons
by Guest Jay Goins- 2 replies

Windows 2003 sp2 and Terminal Server 2003 on 2003 domain. All non-admin users share the same GPO. All terminal servers are in the same GPO. If the administrator logs into any terminal server he can access any website with flash and it works fine. On two terminal servers, the users cannot get any flash to work (http://www.holmefunds.com and others) but on one terminal server it does work. The difference I found was in IE tools managed add-ons. On the one that works for everybody, there is a shockwave flash object from Adobe enabled ActiveX control named flash9e.ocx . The latest flash has already been installed on all three. When the administrator logs in to…
