by Guest P-Ditty- 1 reply

I have a W2K TS in a 2k domain. I am trying to apply settings to the Trust Sites zone in IE. I have the TS in its own OU and have created a policy to apply the settings that I want ( user policy ). I have enabled Loopback processing ( Merge Mode ) on that policy and can not get the settings to apply to users that log in there. Am I missing something?

Hi All, I'm looking for some advice on 'Terminal Services Licensing'. I want to setup a Windows 2003 server but am not sure on licensing, I know you have to purchase a CAL for each user/device that connects to the server but do you have to purchase an additional CAL for the server itself ? Many thanks in advance !!

Printng to CutePDF Writer WTS 2003
by Guest Marc- 3 replies

I have installed CutePDF Writer on my W2K3 TS and have had my clients install it also, When they connect to the TS, the (CutePDF Writer) printer is not available for their use. It is for me. They log in with Domain User rights, I have Admin. When they set their regular printer as default it shows and they are able to print without issues. All of these clients have the FilterQueueType reg hack done on their end. Any ideas what can be preventing these users from seeing or having their CuterPDF Writer not mapping to the TS?

Clarification on TS Roaming Profile
by Guest Scott- 1 reply
Hello, A couple of questions to clarify if I understand how to configure TS Roaming Profiles: 1) If I use the ADUC and set the Path for the TS Roaming Profile on the (TS Profile tab), shouldn't that automatically create the subdirectory for me? If I use the syntax: \\server\sharename\%username% - it accepts the value, but it never creates the subdirectory in the share. I can set the Connect <drive letter> to \\servername\home drive share\%username% on the Profile tab (ADUC) and it successfully creates the subdirectory for the user variable, so I'm not sure if the TS Profile setting is supposed to create the subdirectory. 2) If I used a GP…

If I Lose Connection I am automatically logged off and programs lo
by Guest D Smith- 4 replies

I hope someone can help me with this as I have scoured the newsgroups and the web. Its probably a setting somewhere but I just don't know where to look. Sometimes I connect to the office to work from home with RDP to our terminal server. Since it is an internet connection I sometimes lose this connection and have to login agian. When I do I find the all the programs and documents I had open are gone and I was logged off. It seems like in this case it would disconnect me but that doesn't seem to be happening. I would very much prefer a disconnect so I can just login to my session again. This behavior has really messed me up a couple times now so I reall…

restrict certain users to internal-only access?
by Guest Walter- 0 replies
Is it possible to restrict certain users (or groups) so that they can access the terminal service only within the office, say using a thin client, but not have access remotely? I've seen others asking this question and the only answer I've seen so far recommends using a program called SecureRDP. I found that program, but it doesn't appear to be supported any longer. Many thanks, Walter

SSL Certificate Questions
by Guest Simon White- 2 replies

1) I want to secure a stand alone non-active directory terminal server with an SSL certificate so that the user name and password in the RDP file will be used when connecting to the server so that the user can be logged on automatically by double clicking the RDP file. Will any third party certificate work in this situation? 2) There is a web-site on the same server which I wish to secure using SSL. Can the same certificate be used to secure the website and the terminal server or does this require two certificates. I was planning to get an SSL certificate from GoDaddy.com since I use them for a number of things. Will their certificates work in the…

Printing to TCP/IP printer -VPN&TS
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 1 reply

This question may be more appropriate for the Networking newsgroup but will try here since it involves Terminal Server. We have a Windows 2003 Terminal Server setup at our main office. It is also a DC and DHCP Server -I know, bad idea. Our remote office will connect to the main office via a VPN using Static IPs at each office, using router-to-router IP-SEC. The main office uses 192.168.1.xxx IP addresses from the DHCP server. We have a TCP/IP - based Canon IR-2270 printer/copier at our remote office that WYSE thin-clients will print to when using the application on the TS at the main office. The thin-clients get their IP addresses from the router there -th…

TS and printer orientation
by Guest Henrik Johansson- 2 replies

Does anyone know if there are any GPO-setting to force the printer orientation on a TS? The reason is that the reports in our accounting application neads to print as landscape. I've written a VB-app which handles the problem for the default printer, but it would be nice if there was a builtin GPO-setting instead of the nead of develope the functionality in the logon-scripts for setting/resetting the option. /Henrik

Session Directory and TS issue - Please help
by Guest Jeff- 5 replies
I have a NLB terminal farm of only 2 servers. I added a third server and it shows as healthy in nlbmgr. All security is correct and it is taking sessions correctly as it should. Issue is that after adding the third node users are sporadically being kicked off. Another issue is that the farm alias name will sometimes not respond even though it can be pinged (farm name). No errors on any nodes, which leads me to believe it is somehow related to the session directory since it doesn't seem to ever "reach" the dedicated NIC on any node, thus no errors in events for the terminal session. Session Directory can handle 3 nodes can't it? All are server 200…

Another Session Directory question

If the NICS I am using on two servers are identical, can session directory have an issue when they both have the same virtual mac and same nlb ip address? This is the terminal session directory nic, not the dedicated (secondary) nic used for the actual terminal sessioin.

I have an application term srv 2003 R2. This is also my license server. I registered my server but I havent purchased any licenses yet. I am setup for per user mode. I must configure this server 100% before I purchase licenses. I am about one month into my eval period. I had to install my programs by cmd prompt, change user /install. My exe's are not all named setup.exe. When I view Add & Remove programs, I don't see all of my prog in there. When I log in as admin, I can run all my programs. When I login as a user, I can access only two network programs. All programs are on the same drive that I can access when I browse the network. I can also use M…

Terminal Services Rights

I have been fighting this problem for over a week now. On 2 newly built servers, I am getting the same message: "To log on to this remote computer, you must have Terminal Server User access permissions on this computer. By default, members of the Remote Desktop Users group have these permissions. If you are not a member of the Remote Desktop Users group or another group that has these permissions, or if the Remote Desktop User group does not have these permissions, you must be granted these permissions manually." So far, I have done the following: 1.) Removed Terminal Services Licensing from the Domain Controller. 2.) Made sure that the users w…

Problem opening shared access backend
by Guest Brent- 2 replies

Hello, I have an Access 2000 app that is split into a backend data file and a front end. I have set up terminal services for remote users to log in and open the access front end on the terminal server. When the access front end is opened some code runs that opens a connection the backend. Some TS users can open access without a problem but some get a message saying the backend is already opened exclusively. If I navigate to the backend mdb while logged in as a user with the problem and try to open it directly I get an error saying the database file cannot be found even though I'm looking right at it! It has to do with the TS user account not the …

Temp Licenses and User CAL Tokens
by Guest foolosofo- 12 replies

Hi! I've installed 10 TS User CAL Tokens in our customer's Windows 2003 Server. The server is using Temporary Licenses yet, and these licenses will espire on 20th of January. The 10 TS User CAL Tokens are installed but not issued, so they're ready to be used. However, they're not issued and I don't know if it will work fine on 20th of January. I want to check if they will work before the expiration date of temporary licenses. The TS Licenses looks like this: SERVER |--- Temp W2003 per device CALS - temp- "-" - 19 issued |--- Exisiting W2000 TS token CALs (per device) - built in - unlimited - 0 issued |--- W2003 - TS per User CAL Token - open - 1…
