Security Exception required to run the TSPDRW
by Guest SteveM- 6 replies
I am running Server 2003 as a Terminal Server. In order to resolve some printing issues I am trying to run the Terminal Server Printer Driver Redirection Wizard (TSPDRW). After launching the tspdrw.exe I get a dialogue box saying 'The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. The operation required the SecurityException.' I would like to know how to grant the application the required permission or alternatively how to use the Microsoft .NET security policy administration tool. (Both of these being suggested as ways forward by the dialogue box). Full details of the error thrown up by the dialogue box are copie…

Move "Documents and Settings"
by Guest D.S.- 11 replies

Hi, we are running into space issues on the C: drive on one of our TS. With the "Documents and Settings" consuming the major part of the drive i thought it might be a quick way to resolve this issue to move that folder (including contents) to another local drive. Has anyone followed through the "Entire Folder" solution provided by <http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;LN;236621>? To make the process quicker Microsofts CopyProfile tool would probably be used. Any input on how reliable this process is or if it works at all would be great. Thanks Daniel

Slow printing using some HP drivers/printers on TS
by Guest BennyC- 4 replies

Hi, We are experiencing a big problem using Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0.0 on a TS. When the print button or file/print is selected, it takes a while for the print dialog to appear and then it takes a while for the little print preview in that dialog to render. This problem can occur together with the actually slow printing of the document, but this is not always the case. Our big problem is the “slow” reaction BEFORE the printing. Depending on the server it’s located on or the actual printer driver we use speed can vary from a little slowdown to an apparent complete hang of Adobe Reader. But the server or the driver is not the actual main cause. After some …

How to 'Show Contents While Dragging'

I am very inexperienced in W2003 and TS. I want the user to see the contents of the window they are dragging. (it is just over our local LAN). The Remote Desktop Connection Experience tab (at the user end) has "show contents..." ticked but only an outline appears. There must be an option on the Server that I need to set. -- Regards Tom

Printing with Thin-Clients & Terminal Server
by Guest porbarfarms@gmail.com- 4 replies

We have Wyse V30L thin-clients that run WindowsCE 5.0 operating system and they will remotely connect to our Windows 2003 Terminal Server (also a DC -we know very bad idea) through a VPN, and we have some questions concerning printing at the remote side: 1. The remote network will have an All-in-One ethernet-based printer/ scanner/copier. We have not yet chosen a brand. The thin-clients will connect to the TS to run an application and to access the Internet, and will need to print to this AIO from these apps. Do we simply have to install the driver for this AIO on the TS? We have read threads which state to "map the printer to a native driver" but we do not kno…

Setting up IP-Based Printer w/Thin-clients
by Guest porbarfarms@gmail.com- 3 replies

We are using Windows 2003 Server SP1 as a Terminal Server (TS) with Windows-based (WinCE5.0) Thin-clients connecting to it using RDP from a remote office through a router-to-router IPSec VPN. The remote office is going to have printers that are connected directly to the network via Ethernet. There are no fat-clients or servers at the remote office. The Thin-clients need to print to these IP-based printers from the application that they are using on the TS. At the TS, we understand that we have to install the printer drivers-- note that these drivers cannot be installed Thin-clients--nor should this be necessary-right? We also understand that we should onl…

1st login always fails, 2nd always ok
by Guest James S Clark- 3 replies

I have a recently installed W2K3 SP2 Terminal Server that always rejects the 1st attempt at a remote login but subsequent attempts work fine. Upon 1st login the server leaves an "Idle" session hanging for a minute or two without ever displaying the actual windows login dialog to the client. Whilst this is happening the remote client sees the TS connection window border but never gets a chance to enter log-in credentials. After a anything from 20 seconds to 5 minutes the server resets the session connection attempt and the connection window drops, displaying the error message "The remote connection was ended because of a network error. Please try connec…

Screen Blank after reboot
by Guest Elbryyan- 3 replies

I have a win2003 server running Citrix. I have a script that performs the tssshutdown /restart command on the server overnight each night which has been working great for years. Now when the server reboots the screen is completely blank or just shows a green background and you can get the login prompt to appear by hitting the 'ctrl-alt-del' keys but the server does not accept Ica/rdp connections. Once I restart the server from the menu it works properly again. Is this a known issue from a patch? Any help appreciated to diagnose the issue.

Printers Not Transferring Over for One Client
by Guest razor- 9 replies

Hello-- We have gone into a partnership with another company that needs to access a Terminal Server on our network and then print back to their local printers. We do it here with our two remote offices on separate subnets, but for some reason it won't work with our partner. When we try to manually add a printer from the remote session logged on as the client, the "drop-down list" does not even show their TS session. We are speculating that there is a limitation on their firewall, but we are not sure. As I mentioned, we remote in from other locations and it works. Both our network and our partner's are running Windows 2003. Many thanks, sd

We are running a Terminal Server (Server 2003) for our mission critical application for a temp basis as we are planning to move into a new location. We installed the License Server and CALs in one server called Server1.All the in-house m/c which has licenses can run applications from Terminal Server using rdp. But my problem is if somebody travelling with their Laptops wants to access these applications won’t be able to connect to the Terminal Server. All our travellers using RSA SecurID for connecting to our network (VPN). Can anybody give me any light on how I would be able to give access to all our travel users to connect into Terminal Server. …

TS 2003 - General Printing Statement
by Guest BradleyD- 1 reply
Looking through this discussion group for information on TS 2003 printing as well as browsing the web to find out what printers are "approved" for use on a TS I have drawn a conclusion that if it is not listed on the drop down drivers list then do not attempt to use that printer. One of the pain points for TS appears to be printing. Would this be a good general statement to make? If any one of the many experts out there could validate this statement or direct me to a complete list of "approved" TS / Citrix printers it would be great. My company wants to update some printers but is afraid of the results with TS. Suggestions or recommendations are welcome. T…

I currently have a system with a single Windows 2000 Domain Controller and a single Windows 2000 Termial Server. I plan on adding a Windows 2003 DC and turning down the exiting Windows 2000 DC. Is there a clean / supported way of migrating the 2000 CAL's to 2003? An in place upgrade is NOT an option (its an SBS server). Thanks Jason

No Terminal Server license server is available?
by Guest Mr_Huang- 2 replies

Dear guru, I have read several thread regarding this error, however, it cannot apply to my case. Three Terminal License servers deployed in my W2K3 domain, two in my AD and one in member server. Planned to phase out one of the AD (which contained TLS) with a new installation (same hostname WITHOUT the TLS). Having installed a new AD (same name without TLS) to my network, then I got this message "No Terminal Server license server is available in the current domain or workgroup. To connect to another license server, click Action, Click Connect, and then type the server name." when I launch the TS Licensing each time and it tried to connect to the old information…

This server is not a domain controller and when I first installed it the Licensing Mode for terminal services was Remote Desktop for Administration. Somehow this got switched to Per User mode and I can't figure out how. Terminal Services Configuration > Server Settings shows the Licensing mode as Per User. If I drop down the list of options there I can only choose Per User or Per Device. There is no option for Remote Desktop Admin. I did an install and then remove of Terminal Server Licensing but that did noting at all through Add/Remove programs but that did nothing at all. Is there a way to get back to Remote Admin mode? Thanks in advance for…

Error in Licensing Protocol
by Guest Steve Paris- 4 replies

I have a remote client computer that has been connecting to our Windows 2003 Terminal server without a problem for a couple of years. Starting the first of this year, it will no longer connect because of a licensing protocol error. I have plenty of TS Device CALS available. This computer has been issued a license but the dates look suspect. It was issued on March 23, 2007 and it is set to expire on March 18, 2008. All of my other issued licenses are set to expire in 90 days from the issue data. No other remote client computers are having a problem connecting to the terminal server. Any advice on how to get this client computer connected again. …

Outlook profiles and mb mappings
by Guest JayMac- 6 replies

We have users that need to access community (resource) mailboxes on our network. We have 6 Terminal Servers load balanced for our TS users. Each time a User disconnects from a sessions and then logon, they have to remap to the resource mailboxes via Outlook, even if they get re-pointed to the TS server they previoulsy had a session with. q 1.) Is there a way for their MB mappings to remain? q 2.) Does the TS server tear down the mapi profile for each user after the session ends? If not, they why wouldn't it remember the mailbox mappings? Any insight truly appreciated. Thanks in advance. JayMac

License Manager doesn't display Temp licenses
by Guest Scott- 5 replies

I have my W2K3 DC registered as my License Server for TS. I currently have a TS Farm (Citrix PS) of Windows 2000 Servers, where I can see the license in the Terminal Server Licensing utility. However, I also created a new Farm of Windows 2003 Servers that also host TS. My question is this; The W2K3 TS have been configured to use this same DC as the License Server, so why don't I see the Temporary licenses that have been given out to the W2K3 TS clients via the TS Licensing utility in the Admin Tools?' TIA

VPN - Network Novice Questions

At our main office we have a Windows 2003 Server running as a DC and a Terminal Server - I know not recommended but we have to cut corners on hardware expenses temporarily. We are setting up a remote office that will be using Thin-clients with the Windows CE 5.0 OS. Our phone company is installing a VoIP system at the remote office and will also be setting up a VPN from the remote office to the main office (they support the VoIP here too and have their router in place) and they will supply the router at the remote location. We have a static IP at each location. The remote clients will login to the Terminal Server with Active Directory/Domain credentials. He…

Local disk access horribly slow
by Guest Freaky- 5 replies

Hey there, we have several customers that can work flawlessly on our terminal server. The applications on the terminal work very fast. The customers also connect their local drivers, and this is where the problems lie. Access to the local disk is extremely slow. Every time they click a folder they have to wait around a minute for the directory listing. Browsing through 10 folders deep therefore is not doable. Also copying large files (larger than 10MB) from the local disk to the terminal often fails. The terminal connection itself is very stable. Also uploading (very) large files from the workstation/customer PC to for example a webserver with FTP gives n…
