Slow login script "net use" for one TS user
by Guest Al Williams- 1 reply

I have one TS user that whenever she logs in (on any PC) the company login script "net use" commands execute very slowly. The script is used by everyone else on the network (TS and otherwise) to map company drives and works fine on all other machines that I tested. The same script is also used when she initially turns on her PC and runs fine in that case. It is only when she subsequently logs into the terminal server that it executes very slowly. It almost seems like a network issue but the terminal server has none that I can see and all of the other users are fine. All users run with restricted rights so I don't think there was anything she could…

Group Policy or Default Profile
by Guest SimeonD- 3 replies

Hi Using Terminal Server, on Windows Server 2003. I have a group policy set up, which takes care of most settings. For example, the default folder for Word is V:\ However, some settings are not in the Office group policy editor. For example, the Templates or the Word default font. Did a bit of research, seems one can create a custom ADM to enforce a 'custom' policy. But I need to find a decent tool to do it. Or I can create a custom default profile. (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319974/en-us) It seems that this will also take care of other issues, such as the prompts for when IE7 is used the first time. You know, the Phisihing prompts etc. The defaul…

Hello, We have newly installed a Terminal Server. Our users will log on to this terminal server to use various applications. One of our application starts with a Batch file, that is shared on a different Server. We have given every user a shortcut in their profile. Now when the users log on to the server, they are not able to access this batch file. I have checked and all the rights and permissions are their. Even I can access other files. But, I cannot access only batch files. Kindly let me know if there is any solution. Thanks in Advance. Regards, Denis Dudhia

novice terminal services questions
by Guest Gary M- 4 replies

never had dealt with terminal services before, so would appreciate any help and hints here. I will be setting up a server for someone who has two remote sites in addition to his home office. I'm kind of jumping in at the end, he has been working with the company who sold him his accounting package, and they recomended for cost savings to do terminal services. each remote site will have two PCs. he has purchased windows 2003 server with 10 licenses. he wants each remote PC (4 of them) to be able to connect to the server at the home office, both for his non-microsoft accounting software, and for accessing the server as a file server. what all is …

Win2k3 Terminal Services license?
by Guest Dirk- 2 replies
I have a couple of locations that have Win2k3 servers that are setup as TS. In TS license viewer, I see "Existing Windows 2000 Server - Terminal Services CAL Token (per device)" and type=built-in and total/available shows unlimited, issued=0. However I also see "Temporary Licenses for Windows Server 2003 - Terminal Server Per Device CAL Token" type=temporary, total/available= - and issued=26. My question is, and this might be dumb on my part, but WHY is it not using the win2k CALs? And if it isn't going to use them why are they there in the first place? My temporaries are about to expire, and I will further investigate that, because supposedly licenses h…

unique ip address
by Guest pete0085- 1 reply

Is there a way in terminal services to give each connection a unique ip address? We run a couple different programs that rely on the ip address in order to run, it uses that for its "terminal number", if any of you is familiar with a telnet program like procomm plus. It's not a program that can be shared by everyone, but everyone uses it, if that makes any sense. It requires a unique ip address. I didn't think terminal services would be an option, but want to hear from the experts.

Clients getting same device licenses?
by Guest CountyBruce- 2 replies
We have a terminal server running in the device licensing mode. Initially, clients received licenses and appeared in licensing manager. It now appears newly connected clients are not appearing in licensing manager, but if we check their registry, they are receiving licenses. We don't see any errors in the event log on the licensing server or the terminal server. We have run the tsctst.exe tool on the new clients and it seems that they are receiving the same licenses that were received by previously licensed PCs (the node name is reported as being the node name of a PC that already received a license) and they show the proper license server. We use…

Access using Terminal Server Help!!!
by Guest Candace Sparks- 1 reply

I have just finished setting up a site to site VPN. The Branch office connects to the Main office via the tunnel and users run RDP to access the terminal server. They are able to run the program, but one of the modules will only open if you log on to the Terminal Server as Administrator. There are 5 other modules that do have the issue. I gave the users administrator rights to test, but still unable to open that one module. Any ideas? Thank you for your help in advance! Candace Sparks

New remote desktop connection client - buggy?
by Guest Russell Campbell- 5 replies

I download Microsoft's new RDC client and I'm having difficulty with it. It seems to pause at times and sometimes won't get me logged in properly. I'm a little unsure about my server at present and that's really all I'm attaching to at the moment (over the LAN), so I can't be sure if it's the server or the new version of RDC. Can anyone tell me if they have seen a degradation in the quality of RDC with this new version? Thanks, Russell Campbell

I know that 2003 doesn't provide fault tolerance for terminal server services, but does 2008 address this? Is there any other way to provide high availability for terminal services? It's not load balancing I'm looking for it's high availability. Thanks!

I having a strange issue with users of one of my OUs. At first I thought this was a GP issue, but it appears to be a permissions issue of some kind. One particular department is having an issue, the users can log into the Terminal Servers, the desktop shortcuts that I setup are there, but their desktop are grey, not green and they cannot making any display settings changes. Here is what I have setup, 2003 AD with about 8 OUs, Terminal Services Profiles located on a share on my DC, path set via AD user account, permissions on the profiles are set to User, System, and Domain Admins have Full permissions. I have GP settings for WSUS, IE (set home page…

Server 2003 RDP
by Guest AuthorPa- 4 replies

I'm trying to connect from a Vista based system to Windows Server 2003 via Remote Desktop. When I connect using the Vista system it pulls up my own instance of the account that I'm trying to log into. What I am wanting to do is basically have Account A logged into the server and from the Vista system, be able to remote in and not have it log in as Account A(2) but log in as Account A. I want to be able to control the already logged in account remotely. Perhaps I'm missing what needs to be done here. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated

problem with Licenses in Win2000 TS Server and PocketPC
by Guest Fran Vázquez- 4 replies

Hi, We have a Win2000 Std TS (application mode per device) that has 5 licenses installed. We've 3 mobile devices (Pocket PC) that connect to this TS without any problem. However suddenly one of the devices stopped working, it cannot connect to the TS. What we've noticed is that: -Event ID 1004 'The terminal server cannot issue a client license.' appears every time it tries to connect -In TS manager, the connection appears as 'connectquery' when this device tries to connect and then it disappears (the device cannot connect) -In our Licensing server, we still have 2 available licenses that has not been granted to any device -If we delete the 'licen…

I appreciate the help I have received from the newsgroups for my TS problems. I have never added a another server on a domain that is going to act as a terminal server. Now, remote users log in remotely to terminal server on the DC. How do I set up the new terminal server to handle the remote users, so they will be accessing the new terminal server, not the one on the DC. Thanks for your help in advance! Candace Sparks

TS local drives showing only to some users
by Guest GeorgeK- 2 replies

Hello everybody, How can I make users to see the C:, D:, and all the mapped units on the TS servers from their sessions? I have 4 Win2003 with Citrix. When users connect they can only see "My Documents", however, if users are included into the Administrators group, they'll be able to see the C:, D:, and all the mapped units on the TS servers. I've been reading KB and surfing through this forum and I can't figure it out. I found a post from 10/30/2007 titled "Hide Local Drives" which explains exactly what's happening in my environment....so I checked for policies as suggested in that posting but nothing :-( Any help will be appreciated!! Happy Holi…
