Messed up installing CALs, how can I fix this?
by Guest SOMEYUNGGUY- 2 replies

I have a 2003 svr DC running the TS licensing service. We recently purchased 50 more TS CALs to bring our total to 100. I opened the license manager and chose to install new licenses and followed the prompts. One of the prompts asked for the total number of licenses this server would be in charge of so I entered 100 and clicked finished. Now when I open TS licensing manager it show that I have two sets of licenses, one that is 49/50 used (our old licenses) and then the new one I just added that is 0/100 used. So accoring to the manager we have 150 total licenses instead of 100. How can I fix this? Thx in advance,

2 connection is too much !

Hi there, I'm a newbie in TS. I have a very simple problem: with 2 remote sessions, the server seems to slow down a lot. 98% of the CPU is idle, and I can see that the csrss.exe processes of the remote sessions "consume" up to 7 MB/s of I/O. Is this rate normal ? Could my video card be the problem (who is buidling the image sent on the network ) ? Best regards

Remote Control: Shadowing user sessions from helpdesk local machin
by Guest Creative-Instinct- 3 replies

Greetings, I work for a helpdesk that handles a large call volume of Terminal Server (TS) issues. We have various offices around the globe. Each office houses 1 to 4 Terminal Servers. I was wondering: is it possible to remote control a TS session from our client computers via the Terminal Server Manager without having to login to the specific Terminal Server the user's on? We have a Win2k3 environment and do have the option of TSWEB, which allows us to remote control into any session in the particular server farm, but was curious if there was a faster solution since we can launch the TSADMIN locally to reset, disconnect, or log off users TS sessions. …

IE Security via Group Policy for Win2003 TS
by Guest JohanMartinez- 1 reply

Hi First of all, I'm a novice when it comes to Group Policy. I'm looking to deploy Custom Level IE security settings for all users that access a particular TS. I also want the ability to add sites to Trusted Sites so that all users accessing this TS get those sites added to their Trusted Sites tab. Would I add these in User Configuration, or Computer Configuration? Also, would I link this policy to the OU containing my TS users, or the OU containing my TS? I hope that all made sense, as I think I just confused myself a little. Thanks in Advance Johan

Make Client IPs and name visible beyond Terminal Server
by Guest NLPB- 2 replies

Hello, I'm wondering is there a way to make the IP and or name of a client visible to an application once it's connected to a Terminal Server. Here's my situation. I have an application that when installed and used from a regular computer is set to an optimized mode when connecting to it's backend database server. You know this by checking the properties within the app and it states the workstations name and IP. However, I am now testing Thin Clients with the app frontend installed on a Terminal Server. I can connect to the server and run the app but it's in non optimized mode because when you look at the properties within the app this time, the IP…

I have a Terminal Services setup running on the domain controller. Everthing is OK logging on as administrator, but when I try to use my AD user account, I get the message "To log on to the remote computer, you must be granted the Allow logon through Terminal Services right" I cannot logon, even though that right appears to be set correctly in the Remote Desktop Users profile. What can I do to get past this problem?

Migrating Windows 2003 Terminal Server to new hardware
by Guest JohanMartinez- 1 reply
Hi All. Like the title says, I'm in the process of migrating my Win2003 TS to new hardware. I would like to retain the original server name and IP so I don't have to update my thin clients. The target server is currently running a fresh install of Server 2003 R2 SP2, and has a temporary server name and IP. What are the steps necessary to make this migration run as smooth as possible and minimizing down time? I'm also concerned with licensing. Are there any special steps I need to take? Thanks in advance Johan

Windows 2003 Sp2 / clients - windows xp Every time I log in (with different accounts) the driver for a remote printer gets reset. How do I change this. I checked the Group Policy and the settings are "not configured" I waited 60 seconds after login to make a change on the printer settings as per MS instructions and waited 60 seconds for that change to be saved to the client. How do I get the driver I want to stick when the users log in Thanks, SJMP

MI5-Persecution: MI5 are Afraid to Admit Theyre Behind the Persecution (28118)
by Guest MI5-Victim@mi5.gov.uk- 0 replies

MI5 are Afraid to Admit They're Behind the Persecution MI5 have issued a formal denial of any involvement in my life to the Security Service Tribunal, as you might expect them to; but, more importantly, the persecutors have never denied that theyre from the Security Service, despite several years of accusations from my corner on usenet and in faxed articles. I am not surprised that the Security Service Tribunal found "no determination in your favour". I am however a little surprised that the persecutors have refused to confirm my identification of them; by doing so, they implicitly admit that my guess was right. "No determination in your favour" says the Secu…

MI5-Persecution: Why do you think MI5 are responsible? (4105)
by Guest MI5-Victim@mi5.gov.uk- 0 replies

Why do you think MI5 are responsible? The question of who is ultimately responsible for this eight-year harassment is one which is very difficult to answer, as the persecutors have never clearly made their identities known to the persecutee. However, I believe I am correct in attributing the continuing victimisation to elements of the British Security Service MI5, and in this article, I will try to explain the reasons for this belief. The British internet magazine ".net" featured my website on page 17 of their March 1998 issue (number 42). Their review kindly describes it as an "excellent site" and gives some details of what the net surfer will find there. S…

Safe to run Office 2007 with SBS 2003
by Guest Eric- 7 replies

Hi all, I am posting today to find if anybody is running Office 2007 with SBS 2003 and a Terminal Server? I am looking to upgrade a client to use Office 2007 from Office 2003 and I wnated to make sure that Outlook 2007 plays nice with Exchange 2003 on the SBS? Anybody having any issues? Is there anything special that needs to be done. I am aware of a possible issue with Outlook Web but I think that was more due to the Vista side of things. Again, I just want to make sure that all is well before I deploy Office 2007 company wide? Thanks much and have a great day!

Width of the Quick Launch toolbar on TS
by Guest Yuri GMT+1- 2 replies
The Quick Launch toolbar on the terminal server always falls back to a default width. Users are able to move icons into the Quick Launch toolbar and make the toolbars larger (read as wider). Only when they logoff and logon again the width is back to the original state. The default width shows three icons and that is not enough for most users. Does anyone know if this behavior can be changed? Sincerely, Yuri

TS setup for multiple users
by Guest Markus- 6 replies

I am a newbie to TS, but am excited about running my app (normally installed on LANs) over a WAN using TS and possibly over the Internet. I have a client with 3000 employees in 1000 departments. But they only need max of 10 concurrent users to use my app over their WAN. One basic question I have concerns TS setup. My app writes temp files to the same folder in which the EXE resides. I understand I must be sure each user runs this EXE from their own user folder under TS to avoid user temp file conflicts which is not needed when the app runs on a workstation in a LAN. This means I need a minimum of 10 folders for 10 users on the server, and 10 cop…

Server 2003 Terminal services licensing clarification request.
by Guest xanthium1@googlemail.com- 3 replies

Hi, I'm in the process of setting up a Server 2003 R2 SP2 system that I want to use as to provide Terminal Services (Remote Desktop) sessions to for a small number (3 currently) remote workers. From the packaging it appears that I've got a BIOS locked copy od Server 2003 with 5 CALs? But Terminal services doesn't seem to know anything about them. I can activate the server but get asked for a code I don't appear to have when trying to add the client licenses? I've got a piece of paper in with the Server 2003 disks and manuals that shows **5** Client access licenses. Are these TS Client licenses? and if not can someone explain what they are and how I u…

Best practises for disabling all animation?
by Guest TheComputerGuy (PF)- 1 reply

I quote from a MVP below to a question in 2006 ... "We usually disable anything with animation, so we can get more users on each terminal server. This included menu animations, flash, shockwave, windows media player" What is the best way to disable all these? We do have group policy available, any advice appreciated. Also, anyone who's tried this and can comment on the users experiance?
