Printing Balloon notification TS2003
by Guest Hus- 3 replies

Hi all I'm a little unsure whether this is possible or not. Currently our clients are using a standard desktop machine and connecting via terminal services to a server running 2003. When a user prints to a network printer they are not receiving the balloon notification in the bottom right when it is sent to the printer. I have tried to set it via the printer control panel, server properties with no effect. I have checked the registry to make sure it is explicitly set and it is. There is no group policy disallowing this as when the user prints from the local machine itself they get the balloon. They are inheriting the same policies. If I physically…

Don't know what to head this?????
by Guest Vexander- 3 replies

We run all our branches on terminal server with nothing special added to it other than Office and Bit defender AV, we just installed Kerrige (K8), at one of our branches. K8 is our new Sales Account and so on package it runs on redhat and a proprietary database. Our problem is this. The K8 License server see’s our TS as one client and therefore misappropriates the licenses, the licensing is a bit complicated so I am not going to get into it, but surface to say the license server gets it wrong, so we run out of licenses. Secondly the licensing only allows for 10 concurrent connections from one terminal, so if 10 clients log on no one else can, whic…

app installs on terminal server
by Guest pdch@shaw.ca- 2 replies

Quick question! MS says that applications should be installed on the terminal server. But some apps require small database files that get installed locally on the TS. (which then opens the preverbial can of worms regarding GPO's and permissions to write/modify data on the TS/ backups etc). Some Apps suggest installing apps pointing to a mapped drive on the FilePrint server (but isn't officially supported and is done at "your own risk" ! ), which is contrary to MS position of installing apps locally on TS. So what is the best way to do this? 1) Install apps "locally" on the TS and try and point data files to the FP server; or 2) install apps FROM the T…

Understanding Mandatory vs Roaming profiles?
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 2 replies

We have a SBS Windows 2000 Domain Controller with a single Windows 2003 Terminal Server. We are setting up (10) XP-based computers with (10) users that will login to the 2000 Domain to use the TS. They do not need to use their local desktops/hardware for anything. They are to be restricted to the using the TS and one or two TS apps, no Internet, etc. Since a user should not be changing their local profile, and since all (10) computers/users should display the same TS profile, shouldn't we use a mandatory profile for each user instead? Thanks.

Outlook offline caching

Quick question regarding Outlook 2007. If users has offline caching enabled in outlook, prior to moving to terminal server, would the outlook install on the terminal server keep this "caching" setting (causing profile error "copying offline files in the profile can cause corruption"). Thanks!

Newbie Setup Question
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 8 replies
We have a SBS2000 (not 2003) server running Active Directory & a Windows 2003 Server running as a Terminal server. We added (10) new XP client computers to the AD and (10) generically named users who are now just members of the "Domain Users" group. This setup for the sole purpose of the (1) clients/users running one application on the Terminal Server. It appears that if Active Directory were running on Windows 2003 Server we could just add the clients to the Remote Desktop USers group to accomplish some of the things we need to accomplish. However that group is not available in Windows 2000 AD. So here is our goal for the (10) new clients: 1. We want ev…

Dual monitor issue with Remote Desktop
by Guest Lakeshore- 2 replies
Is there any way to have a remote desktop session start on the secondary monitor. Each time I run a preconfigured .RDP file, it always starts on the primary monitor. Not a hugh issue, as Ultramon will handle a quick move to the secondary screen, except the two monitors have different displays resolutons and when using the full screen option in the RDP file, it sizes it for the resolution of the primary monitor. When moved to the secondary monitor with a lower resolution (for a TV display with text), it does not size correctly. If I do not use full screen, you get the title bar of the RDP session with the application title bar below that. -- Br…

Terminal Server with 2 NIC's
by Guest TR- 9 replies

Hello, I have a member server on a SBS 2003 network that is a terminal server. I added a second network card to the Terminal Server and purchased a public IP so that our remote employees can log into it from the internet on this second network card without having to create a VPN through our SBS server and generate more traffic on our internal network. When I configure the second NIC with the public ip and try to input the Default Gateway that was provided to me by my ISP, i get the error: Warning - Multiple default gateways are intended to provide redundancy to a single network(such as an intranet or internet). They will not fumction properly when the…

NTVDM Screen Resolution Issues
by Guest RPM_AUS- 1 reply

Hi This question is in regards to NTVDM on Windows 2003 R2 terminal server SP2 and the maximum screen resolution it should be able address, The reason I ask this question is that I have two applications that launch a NTVDM process when executed by the user and both are now presenting the same issue. I am working in accountants office so both these apps are finical applications The problem being that we have just setup New WYSE units running XPE with Dual 19" Screen attached, each runs at resolution on 1280 by 1024, Using RDP v6 and the /span when establishing each session on the terminal server the screen resolution is presented at 2560…

Working with large images through TS
by Guest Andrew- 2 replies
What is the best way to work with large images (1mb and up) through TS? Would TSWeb provide better performance? The TS server is on a 1mbit connection and clients access the server remotely behind ADSL links. Currently we are using just TS with Remote Desktop client, the images are actually stored in PDF files. When we try to manipulate the image even just by moving PDF reader around it takes a long long time for the screen to refresh. I assume this is because the whole image has to be downloaded again? I'm setting up a TSWeb server now to see if it makes any difference. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Andrew

Logon through terminal services
by Guest Martin Verrier- 1 reply

Hi everyone I have an issue. I have a computer with Windows XP Pro on which I want to be able to connect through the outside. I've already made the changes in my router and I'm able to get the username and password prompt. However, when I put the information and tries to logon, it tells me : "The local policy of this system does not permit you to logon interactively." The computer is member of a domain so when I go in the Local Security Policy to allow logon through terminal services, I can't modify the list of users having access. When I go on the server to modify the Default Group Policy, I'm able to add it there without problems. Then, when I go back on…

TS client license issue
by Guest tree leafs- 3 replies
Hi, a terminal server has 6 client device license. there are 5 thin client terminal always connected to the termianl server. In the TS license manager, it shows all 6 licenses are used. Is it that the terminal server itself count as a device? Moreover, it looks like no more other PCs can remotely logon to the TS even all thin clients are logged off. Is it that the device client license is bound to specific device rather than concurrent? Is it possible to re-configure the TS so that it uses per user license instead of per device? Thanks in advance,

Hello, We have an HP DL360 dual (dual core) cpu server with Windows Server Standard 2003 SP2 and all the latest patches and Citrix 4.0 with all the latest patches. There is Office 2003 with all the latest patches and a few other software programs. Since I upgraded the server to all the latest patches and SP2 we have a problem with the cpu usage. If there are a few users logged on the cpu usage will go to almost 100% and the users can not do anything anymore. There are no errors in any of the logs Any help is welcome

Domain member can't see user deletion from domain controller
by Guest Romain- 1 reply
Hi, I have a strange behaviour happening on a server and I need your help. So here is the setup: 2 domain controllers 2 member servers that are configured as terminal servers. Users use the TS in application mode. Initially the users were configured to use roaming profiles, sync with DFS but right now, the DFS no longer synchronize the profiles from on server to the other (the 2 TS). But that not the major issue here. I have delete a user on one of the domain controller. On TS1, I can see that the server know that the user has been delete because for the 'local' profile stored in TS1 on doc and settings, if I edit the properties, the user does not ap…

32-bit Display on Windows Server 2008 RC0
by Guest Jasper Jugan- 2 replies
Hi! I was wondering if there’s anything I left out: 1. I configured Remote Desktop Connection clients to connect through 32-bit display color 2. I configured Terminal Services properties to no limitation on color or to limit only 32-bit My thin clients are HP thin clients with Windows XP SP2 embedded, installed with RDP 6.0 client. When I try to connect using my RDP client, I still only get 16-bit color and cannot make it 1024x768 on 32-bit color depth. However locally I am able to run 32-bit color. What gives? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
