Users Failed to logon to TS/Citrix Occasionally
by Guest Mr_Huang- 2 replies

Dear guru, Our users have experienced logon failure when trying to access one published application in one of our TS/Citrix occasionally. It would show this error message "To log on to this remote computer, you must have Terminal Server user access permissions on this computer. By default, members of the Remote Desktop users group have these permissions. If you are not a member of the Remote Desktop Users group or another group that has these permissions, or if the Remote Desktop User group does not have these permissions, you must be granted these permissions manually." And there's a User Section in the Administration Console. There's no regular symptoms on…

RDP Saves IP in Logon Credentials
by Guest David- 3 replies

This may be blindingly simple and I just can't see it. The RDP clip stores the IP address of the remote server in the User Name field (e.g. xx.xxx.xxx.xxx\my_name) which it passes to the server for logon. This, quite reasonably, fails. How do I prevent the IP address being sent in the User Name field, please? -- David @ Solsletta

I dont want to lock local screen during remote console access
by Guest Andy Scutt- 1 reply

Hi We have just upgraded one of our servers to 2003 which is used in our office as a live monitoring platform. Unfortunately it is also used by remote engineers to RDP to. Now when someone connects to the server (to the console) the local screen locks, which is not a big issue if, when the remote connection ends, the screen would unlock. But it doesnt - is there anything I can do to either stop the local session getting locked when a console connection comes in or automatically log the local session back in after rdp session ends? Thanks

terminal services on monochromatic pocket pc
by Guest Lavida- 1 reply

Hello everyone I'm actually facing a critical problem. We've purchased a monochromatic terminal (like a pocket pc) that can be attached to a barcode reader, with the intention to use terminal services (running on it) to access one of my servers and execute an application. Now that I finished my application, I tried to execute it via terminal services on my terminal, to my surprise, I can't see anything, all I see is the close, minimize and maximise icons and the start button and some icons on the desktop of the terminal server. Is there some settings I can change on terminal services to make it monochromatic ?? P.S : I tried every kind of colour for my …

W2K3 TS Grace Period Licensing Question
by Guest jms88- 1 reply
I have a Windows 2003 Server that we have been using the 2 Remote Desktop connections for administrative connections. We have been using the machine this way for over 1 year. Now, we would like to turn on Terminal Server services. However, we do not yet have Windows 2003 TS licensning. Basically, we need to allow more than 2 people to access the machine for testing purposes. So, now to the question: If we turn on Windows 2003 Terminal Server licensing, will we have the 120 grace period, or did the grace period start when the first time the Server accepted the administrative RDP connection? Thanks! Jeff

Printer Rediraction while using Remote Desktop MMC Snap-in
by Guest cphalen- 1 reply

Is there any way to turn off printer and LPT port redirection when using the Remote Desktop MMC snap-in? I have already disabled printer and LPT port redirection for the Remote Desktop Connnection which has eliminated those annoying TermServDevices 1111 errors on the server, but when I use the Remote Desktop MMC snap-in that you can access via administrative tools and which allows you to organize and connect to multiple remote desktops I am still seeing these errors in the server log. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I have a w2003 tserver that is fully patched, I am having trouble with a mapped share on the server. The R: drive shows up on reboot as disconnected, you can browse the drive, but applications do not see it and fail if they are pointing to it. I have tried disconnecting from it but I get the message the network connection could not be found. I have also tried this from the command prompt and get the same error. If I do a net share the r: drive is not shown. Any ideas would be helpfull Thanks Mike

Saved credentials

I save many, many RDP logons to both Win2K & Win20003 domain controllers as well as member servers, and workstations. This is for remote support for my clients. I always store the credentials to save myself time when logging on. On one particular Windows 2003 SBS server (remote admin mode, of course), I click through to save the credentials, and it works the first time. I enter just the administrator user ID and password. However, when I open the RDP file to reconnect later, it fails and bounces back at me like this: domain\AdminUserID [has inserted the [domain\"] ****** [OK] Domain [Grayed out] I have to remove the domain name & slash from…

Redirect a file - not in profile
by Guest Steven Andrews- 1 reply
Hello I'll try to explain this as simply as possible: there is a file called: c:\programName\banana.txt I would like users when logging on to be able to see the file c:\programName\banana.txt, however when they open the file, it redirects them to %userprofile%\programName\banana.txt This way every user would see a different file. This is because an application relies on c:\programName\banana.txt existing, however having 2 users modify this file at the same time is currently causing issues. The developers solution is the place the entire program files directory into %userprofile%\programName. This does work, however the thought of copying 300…

Terminal Server 2003 - Extermely Slow Logons After Server Reboot -Help!

Hello, I have a really strange problem. I have a HP Server with 4 Dual Core CPU's, 8GB's Ram and fast 15k SCSI Hard Drives, its running Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition with all service packs and updates. This server runs our main business applications for about 40 users. If I have to reboot the server during working hours, when it comes back up and the users start to logon it runs at a snails pace, I have a login scrpt that copies files to the users folders which usually takes about 10sec to run normally but after a reboot takes upto 15mins! All in all it can take take 30mins for the server to settle down after restarting. If I havent done a reboot and get all…

keyboard input error

Hi, Have a Dell Latitude d800 laptop that has some strange keyboard behavior when logged into the certain remote sessions. When I connect to our standard 2003 terminal server using different profiles the keyboard inconsistenly creates alt-tab or tab or backspace signals. Connect to another 2003 terminal server and the problem doesn't exist. Connect using a usb keyboard and there is no problem. When I connect remotely to my PC (Windows XP Pro) the problem resurfaces. I've looked in the control panel and it says "Standard 101 Keyboard". I've removed and reloaded the keyboard and it made no difference. I don't know where to go from here. Any he…

Which version for terminal services??
by Guest jawdoc- 6 replies

I have a small network currently have Windows 2003 SBS. Setup as a domain with a single DC. We currently use Terminal Services in our remote office but are limited to 2 sessions as I have it in Administrative mode. I also understand that the SBS edition does not support application mode. So I am planning on replacing the server. I want to make sure I don't make a mistake with the version of 2003 server. Does the standard version have full support for application mode? or do I have to go with Enterprise edition? Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

Following a recent reboot all of the PDF and MSOffice document and program icons changed to plain white rectangles showing the windows logo, as if there is no program association. Double clicking on the icon still opens the file so the association is still there, just no icon image. For most users images on icons are way more important than SPAM + Virus + Hard Drive failures combined, only an inability to access facebook ranks higher on the HELP! list. I have deleted the icon cache (C:\WINNT\ShellIconCache) AND run rebuild icons in TWEAK UI AND rebooted - no change. Folder icons and a some document / program icons (Internet Explorer, Outlook, Recycle Bin, Zi…

Terminal Session Logouts Immediately
by Guest Vincent- 1 reply

I have a puzzling problem. Whenever I define a logon script underneath the Terminal Services Configuration console, I experience logon problems. More specifically, the sever terminates the terminal session as soon as the logon script finishes executing. There is nothing odd about my logon script. It is simply mapping some ports to local printer shares. If I remove the logon script, I can logon normally. If I remove the script and logon normally, I can also execute the script without any problems. However, whenever I specify to run the script automatically, either as a global or per-user setting, it immediately logs me out! Can anyone please help me with …

Serial Port Redirection
by Guest Vincent- 1 reply

Quick and easy question--I hope. Is there always a one-to-one mapping between the com ports in the terminal server session and the com ports on the client computer? In other words, if I have 4 com ports on the client (COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4), will the terminal server session always map like so: Terminal Server Client COM1 COM1 COM2 COM2 COM3 COM3 COM4 COM4 Or will it do something funky like so? Terminal Server Client COM1 COM4 COM2 COM3 COM3 COM2 COM4 COM1 Or is it completely unpredictable? Thanks. Vi…

Hello All, We would like to log all terminal services connections made to one of our Windows Server 2003 systems. We are running the Terminal Services Directory Logging service and have made the registry change specified in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327508. In addition, in Terminal Services Configuration Manager, we have enabled auditing logon, logoff, connect, disconnect, etc. for the everyone group on the server. I do not see any entries in the event logs or the Terminal Services log file for this information. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Thin clients cannot access Terminal Server.
by Guest Rich B- 5 replies

Hello, A couple of months ago I upgraded our Windows 2000 AD to Windows 2003 AD. When I was sure everything was working (after about a month) I then demoted the Windows 2000 AD servers to member servers. Since I am new to this oraganization I didn't realize, and nobody told me, that one of the Windows 2000 servers had the terminal server licensing installed on it. Because of this my thin clients are having problems logging on and I have been getting Event ID's 1003, 1004 and 1010 on the terminal servers (As expected, since there is no licensing server). I since have added terminal server licensing to one of the Windows 2003 AD servers and I was ab…

This might be a dumb question. But I am under preasure now with our new ERP and I do not have time for this. Please help. Our TS session will not allow the user to change the screen res of the session. Enven if I set the display of the terminal up to 1024x768 then when the user right clicks in the session it only shows 800 x 600 and the slider does not move to 1024 x 768? Any help please. Thanx

QB 2007 working, but...
by Guest pdch@shaw.ca- 1 reply

After much hair pulling, got QB 2007 pro to work on terminal server. AFTER all apps were installed, I read that roaming profiles and file redirection was a good idea. (Learned that I should have done it first BEFORE all users signed on). So enabled that, and I had to reset application data paths for everyone (15 users). *sigh* Fortunately, I'm just fine tuning now; Here is my question. Whenever anyone logs into quickbooks, the file that another user was last using opens up by default. Is there any way to change this behavior so that it just goes to a default directory and not open a file? Thanks!
