Blank screen when certain users log into server
by Guest WAstarita- 1 reply
I have a 2003 Enterprise terminal server joined to my domain. It is not a domain controller. When myself, the admin login or one other user logs in, no problems. We all happen to be admins. When anyone else logs in all they get is a blank screen, basically the blue background you get just as you login and the login dialog drops off the screen right before the desktop comes up. Terminal services manager shows the person as logged in, if you try to switch to that user it gives you the same screen. I'm getting the following errors in my Application Event Viewer Event ID 101 - Folder Redirection Failed to perform redirection of folder Desktop. The new direct…

Remote Site & Printers

Hi all, So we are looking at opening a 2nd site, just getting all the gear for it now...at the 1st site (orig) we have a DB svr and a TS svr...all running great.... For the 2nd site, I have been trying to avoid running a VPN as my experiences with them have been average.....they've screwed me around to the point of if I can avoid them, I will... So I had planned on just getting everyone to remote into the TS and thought all would be good.... What I hadn't planned on was the introduction of network printers at the 2nd site...I was told originally just LPT and USB printers used and I thought ok, not a problem, just bring them through the session.... A…

Our TS is running 2000. Only one application is set up to run out of this box and is set to map users printers. In the last week two new printers have been connected to clients machines via USB cables and are their default printer for their desktop. Both clients are XP Pro and have the latest RDP client, the server is also up to date in this area. I did review several articles and websites and recieving no errors in this area. I also tried the solutions outlined in KB302361 and neither works. I also tried installing the drivers on the server and then redirecting and just not showing up. I am not sure if I missed something obvious or not? I would …

Session based printing in MS TS?
by Guest James- 3 replies

For those that are familiar with Citrix, is there feature in the MS vanilla terminal services that provides the same functionality as "Session based printing policies" in Citrix? I'm asking because we are small business that's tired of paying for Citrix and we want to investigate Windows Server 2008 TS solutions. We have two print servers and want to assign different printers to different groups of users along with the appropriate default printer. With the new session broker, TS gateway, etc.., I'm sure many small to medium businesses are thinking the same thing. Thanks in advance.

Howto convert IPv6 from WTSClientAddress to string?
by Guest Remko- 1 reply
With WTSQuerySessionInfo you can query the client address by passing in the WTSClientAddress constant. This returns a _WTS_CLIENT_ADDRESS structure: typedef struct _WTS_CLIENT_ADDRESS { DWORD AddressFamily; BYTE Address[20]; } WTS_CLIENT_ADDRESS, *PWTS_CLIENT_ADDRESS; I tried using RtlIpv6AddressToString but that doesn't return a valid address. Please suggest how to convert. I'm installing several Terminal Servers per month and i install them and publish a desktop to user. Now i have heard from a colleague that he has seen a customer wich uses shortcuts on the desktop pc per application wich start the application on the Terminal Server without logging in. It looks like Citrix, but this isn't the case in my situation. Is this possible with Microsoft Terminal Server alone, without using any 3rd party software?

TS Installation
by Guest mleev- 1 reply

Hello. I installed TS Licensing and activated 10 per device CAL's on a server that I now want to install Terminal Server on. The wizard warns that any currently installed programs will no longer work so I have two questions: 1. does this apply to SQL Server currently running on the box? 2. will this mess with the license information in any way? I'm thinking i'd need to reinstall SQL server but hoping to hear from someone who's been there first. Thanks.

Greetings, I need help on how to go about on setting up access to end users on our terminal server. This is what I have... I have one terminal server on it's own OU and user's on it's own also. Now, I have a bunch of workstations that has WinXP w/o hard drive in them (just a rom or other) and the TS. Now what I would like to do w/o creating a mandatory profile is to basically lock down everything work station and terminal access besides the applications. On the workstation side, I would like the users to have no access except for the log-off, shutdown/restart, and the remote desktop icon on the desktop. On the terminal side, I would like the user to just se…

Automatic application launch
by Guest Tomas Kracmar- 4 replies

Hello, I have a 2000 server as a TS and I need our users to connect to it and launch one application. They don't need to do anything else. So I configured the TS to launch the app automatically when the user logs in. It works like a charm, exactly what I want to have. BUT Is there any way how I can log in as an administrator through RDP with full access to the machine? It is absolutely needed, because this machine is going to be moved to remote location... Thanks TK

CreateProcessAsUser returns FALSE but GetLastError returns 0
by Guest mmichlin- 1 reply

Hi, I am launching a process using the CreateProcessAsUser function from a Windows service running under Local System. The process is supposed to run in the Terminal Session, defined by the user token handle (that I get using the WTSQueryUserToken). This works fine on 2003 SP1 but doesn't work on 2003 SP2. And what puzzles me most of all is that although the function fails (returns FALSE) the GetLastError returns 0 (no error). My trying to launch the process occurse just right the new Terminal Session was logged in by the user and if I wait a little (second or so) and repeat the attempt, the process is created successfully. However, I still think that …
