by Guest Jay- 1 reply

Hi I have a TS setup in W2K3 and I noticed with my users that the Program Icons dont appear correctly....defaults to the unknown icon. Now I have created the shortcut from the share and also checked the properties of the shortcut and ensured its pointing tothe correct ico file and it is. Sometimes after I log into the session I can hit F5 and some work, but others dont always....what would be the reason? Also, How can I set this same program link in the Quick Launch in the task bar?...next to the Start menu?...Some have the link there also, and some dont.. We are using Roaming Profiles.... J

Inactive TS port
by Guest BFH- 2 replies

Installing Wyse Thin Clients, using their OS, not Win CE or such. Connecting USB local printer to the thin clients and accessing Win2003 server via RDP. Once logged in, I can create a printer which prints to the WinTerm's USB local printer, however, once I log off and log back on, the printer doesn't work. The printer icon is still there, but if I check the port settings, the port I created in the last session is listed as an "Inactive TS port," and there's a new port available for the USB local printer. If I change the printer to print to that new port, it works, but then on log off and log back on, that port is listed as Inactive, etc. etc. etc. (an…

Office 2007 & "This file is locked for editing by..." functionalit
by Guest Ben Waldon- 1 reply

Hello, We have recently setup a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition Terminal Server for ~40 users. We installed Office 07 Pro Plus. The problem comes when one user has a shared file open & a 2nd user wants to open that file also. It says that the same user has that file open regardless of who really it is. I think it's the name we used when we registered it. Also, when the any user first logs in and uses office for the first time, it doesn't ask them for "First Name, Last Name, initials". So, if a user would like to know who else has it open, they don't know who to call. The fileserver is a seperate server and I looked at Computer Management >…

Controlling user access to applications (Newbie question)
by Guest Pieman- 5 replies
How do you go about controlling which users can run specific applications that are installed in a TS environment? As an example, say you have 100 users connecting into a TS server that has MS Office and MS Project installed, but you only have a need for 5 users to run Project how would you prevent the remaining users from having the ability to run Project or even know that it was installed but still allow them to run Office? Cheers

Login and Sony Vaio Notebook
by Guest Jeroen- 0 replies

Hi, One of our customers has a Sony Vaio BX29 notebook (UK keyboard layout) running Windows XP SP2 with all available patches and updates. When he tries to login to Windows 2003 R2 Terminal Services he can't use capitals or other graphics that uses the shift-key. Even Alt-codes don't work properly (e.g. Alt-65 should be an "A" but shows an "a" and Shift-4 should be a "$" but shows a "4" on the inputbox). On the local desktop all input is correct. Language and input/keyboard settings are OK on both the notebook and server since logging on from another non-Sony computer works fine. Loging on to another Terminal Server also gives teh same responses. Any…

Connecting from XP Pro SP2 to Win 2003 Server, SP2 over web based (Juniper) VPN, I can see my local drives but I get the following message when trying to use them: "\\tsclient\D is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The filename, directory name, or volumn label syntax is incorrect." I have local admin rights on the server and on my XP client. I checked the Terminal Services policies and they allow access to local drives. I do not have domain admin creds on the server, the client did not give me those. I cannot cut and paste file…

Adding Print driver to server
by Guest Thomas Kroljic- 4 replies
All, I have a user who uses a Brother MFC-8500 printer. I tried to install the appropriate drivers on the Terminal Server under Printer and Faxes / File / Server Properties / drivers. I follow the instructions and point (browse) to the correct subdirectory. When I click on the OPEN button, nothing, no printers, appear in the dialog box. Is this because the printer is a "plug and play" printer and needs to physically be connected to the server? or am I doing something wrong? Can I redirect to a Brother MFC-8500 (multi-functional device)? Thank you, Thomas Kroljic

Problem 1 The user policy is not applying to the created Citrtix users group and only applies when they are added to the domain admins group. when logging in to the server the TSprofiles and TShome GPO settings appear to work fine but the folder redirection is not working. I have done heaps of looking around the Ms site and also on google and everything I have tried does not seem to work. the main error I see if unable to open HKCU registry with error 5 (Failed to open HKEY_CURRENT_USER, error = 5), even though Domain users has full access to this key and all s…

Hi, I have a terminal servers 2003 and sometimes the printing queue of the HP 1022n hangs. When the user gives a print job one paper comes out and the rest hangs. When I turn of the printer and disconnect the power cable and reconnect it after a few seconds it works fine for a few weeks. It seems like I have to reset the printer sometimes. Nothing is found in the event viewer. Anyone know where to look. Sorry if I am in the wrong group, I don't know if it's a printer or a server problem. Thx

adminstrator account locked down
by Guest Some IT Guy Pa- 0 replies

I am not sure how/when this happened, but in upgrading from IE 6 to IE 7 on a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 terminal server, it appears the 'administrator' account has been locked down. Because of this, I could not get through the run-once setup on IE7 and windows update will not work. If I log in using another userid that has admin priviledges (but not called 'administrator') all these features work. Is this a security feature that got introduced and I just never noticed? Is there a article somewhere with more details on this? The searches I did have not shown up anything useful.

New setup

Hi, I have an issue coming up that is going to be setup as such; I'm going to have 13 remote sites, with Windows 2003 something, rather it's SBS or Standard at the main headquaters. It's a Non-Profit budget. The goal is is to have the 13 sites login remotely, or somehow access information remotely, is Terminal Server the best solutions for this? All Operating Systems on the desktop will be XP Pro, I don't have any configurations setup yet as far as Firewall and what not. Thanks Craig

Remote connection timed out
by Guest Marvin Bordelon- 5 replies

We have a dozen or so users who connect to our Windows 2000 terminal server via VPN using remote desktop. One particular user gets the message"The remote connection timed out. Please try connecting to the remote computer again." when trying to connect to the terminal server. However, this user is able to remote to other servers on our network. Anyone have any idea why this user would be able to connect to other servers and Not the terminal server?

Remote User needs access to local ports
by Guest Jeff- 1 reply

I have a remote user who VPNs in to our network via an internet circuit. Unfortunately this VPN connection is too slow to run a few of his applications so we decided to set him up with a remote desktop connection. However, the specific application that he uses downloads information from the local COM port on his computer. When he goes to do this through Terminal Services, I believe the application is looking at the COM port of the PC that is running Terminal Services - not the COM port of his local PC. This could be a huge deal breaker if he can't download data from his COM port while using remote desktop. Does anyone know if there is any way at all to do …
