Terminal Services Manager not connecting to a 2003 Server
by Guest davidtheweb- 10 replies
I have one 2003 Standard server that will not accept a connection from Terminal Services Manager. The message on TSM is 'You could not be authenticated on this server.' All other 2003 and 2000 servers are accepting connections from TSMs on different stations. This 2003 server was upgraded from 2000 a little while back. When it was a 2000 server, it accepted TSM connections. I *am* able to Remote Desktop successfully to this server, just not to TSM to it in order to manage connections, etc. Any thoughts? Thanks, David

Terminal Service Manager not connecting -- Renewed Issue
by Guest davidtheweb- 3 replies
In a question on 6 Oct 07, I posted this question, about a 2003 Server refusing connection from my Terminal Service Manager. Viera solved part of the problem, isolating it as an issue with 2000 upgrading to 2003, and also found a way to allow XP SP2 machines to be connected to a TSM session, but never did resolve getting the 2003 machine (upgraded from 2000) to respond to TSM requests. I feel that resolving this issue would be a coup and a great help to many admins. So I renew this question... Thanks

Terminal Services and ini file errors
by Guest Richard Tracy- 2 replies

Hello, we are having a wierd issue, I will describe to the best of my ability. We have an application that pulls an ini file from the users homedrive\windows directory. This ini file holds the information for the application to be able to successfully connect to the database. This application works with no issues for our users that are using workstations. The application works 95% of the time in our terminal services enviroment, but for some users they will get none of the information or sometimes they will get pieces of the information but not all of it. This is a windows 2000 terminal server enviroment with about 15 users per server, but we have bee…

We are currently running Windows TS 2000 on a Windows 2000 DC. From my understanding as long as you have a W2K or XP Pro machine you have a license. My question is if we upgrade our DC to a Windows 2003 but still run a Windows TS 2000 how does that affect licensing?

terminal service and "integrated windows authentication"
by Guest Jonathan Brown- 1 reply
We have a terminal server up and running on the same sub net and domain as a windows 2000 server runign iis5. One of the web pages is configured to "integrated windows authentication". The uses are unable to log in. When I look at the logs for the web page the user infomation is missing from the log. It looks like ie running on the terminal server is not sending the user information. How do I get ie running on terminal server to send the user information? Thanks, Jonathan

Performance problems from mouse input?
by Guest Brian MXP- 0 replies

Howdy- Is it possible (I feel like I've exhausted many other options) that the *very* sluggish/borderline unresponsive (but unidentifiable in perfmon or taskman) performance I'm seeing in my Win2003 EE R2 SP2 is being caused by RDP client mouse movement??? - If I log on to a physical console, it operates fine for Keyboard & Mouse - If I connect with an out-of-band method (Dell DRAC) K&M is fine - If I connect with RDP and use applications with _only_ my keyboard (alt-tab, Windows cursor, etc.) it operates fine - If I try to use the mouse for any action from RDP connection, it takes several seconds to process the input and perform the operation […

Java plugin not available to all TS users.
by Guest JK in Nebraska- 0 replies

I have a simple terminal server farm utilizing NLB. Three identical servers running server 2003 X64, and IE7. I have installed the Java add-in for IE on all of the servers but it is not available to all users who log-in to the terminal servers. It doesn't seem to be a security issue as users with identical domain group memberships and local security settings get different results. The users that don't have the add-in available do not get prompted to load it. How do I make this add-in available to all users?

by Guest stephenh2@mac.com- 6 replies

I installed Windows 2003 and activated terminal services in application mode. I am still within the intial 90 days. I have installed 10 TS Cals on it. When Iog on to TS, I get a messages that says by temporary license will expire in 7 days. Since I have added 10 CALs, do I have to do anything when the temporary license expires. Will I be issued a permanent license at that time?

Question(s) - TS Application installation & licensing
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 1 reply

We currently have a Windows 2003 Server Std Edition as our DC that has our Pervasive-SQL -based accounting application (Server/Client-based) installed on it and is the data store for it. Current, 15 local XP clients with the application locally installed on them, login to the DC. We are setting up a remote location for WYSE thin-clients (app cannot be installed locally) to access this application and use the Internet. We have (2) options presented to us for making this happen and I am making sure we understand what will need to happen in either case with regards to the use/installation of the accounting app & TS client licensing. First Option: 1. Ins…

Printer Drivers
by Guest John F Kappler- 1 reply

We've recently been setting up printer drivers for remote users on our WS2003 Terminal Services server. Whilst we now seem to have the drivers we need (and have identified some printers which are not supported), we also seem to have drivers installed for some printers we will never need (as evidenced by the Wizard used to match mini-drivers to remote printers). Is there a utility that can show all the drivers installed and facilitate removal of ones that are no use to us? TIA JohnK (Who likes his servers tidy!)

Windows 2000 TS, restricting users to 1 session
by Guest Chris Swinney- 14 replies
Hi all, I see that there are GPOs that can be set to restrict user creating more than 1 session for TS in Win 2003, but we have issues with a Win 2000 TS server. I have also noted that there are GPOs that use keepalive so that dropped session can be disconnected properly. We have remote users that connect in via VPN then use TS to run certain apps. Sometimes the VPN disconnects and the TS session is broken. I have set the option in the properties of the users so that they SHOULD be able to reconnect from any client, however, what appear to be happening is that the user attempts to log back on and a new session is started. I would like to set Win …

Error in App log regarding mapped drive
by Guest jkf1024- 2 replies

We have a Windows 2003 SP2 server running Terminal Services to which users connect to a Citrix published application. The user logon script maps a drive to a folder located on another server when they log into Terminal Services/Citrix. The mapped drive is created but in the application log on the terminal server there is an Event ID: 1000 with the description: "Could not execute the following script net use E: \\ServerName\FolderName. The system cannot find the file specified." Does anyone know where this error comes from and how it can be resolved?

Running TS on Domain Controller
by Guest compsosinc@gmail.com- 4 replies
What are the considerations and disadvantages of running Terminal Server on a Domain Controller? We have Windows 2003 Std Edition as our DC. It is a Dell PE 2800 with 4GB of memory and 3.0GHz Xeon Processor that currently supports 15 clients locally. We want to use the TS capability of this same server for supporting our 6-8 remote WYSE Thin-clients over a Router-to- Router VPN. We have read discussions relating to security issues, but if we are able to lock-down the TS portion, both throught he VPN and the GPO, how does security become an issue? Any other comments are appreciated -thanks
