Terminal Services Setup/Flaw
by Guest RemyMaza- 9 replies

I'm a new hire to a company and I've never used TS before. I was given my domain admin priviledges and went to work last week. I was probing and testing the network for any flaws and I found a big one I'd like to fix. I am able to .rdp into the terminal server and from there I'm able to use .rdp into any other server in the network. The problem lies not with my login but with a normal user's login, I'm able to do this. What can I do to prevent normal user's from logging into any machine they want? Server '03 SP2 Best Regards, Matt

I am trying to evaluate TS on our 2003 Server but it will not accept user login credentials. This thread below exactly describes my situation EXCEPT I just configured the server as a terminal server 2 days ago: http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.terminal_services&tid=1ad8c1cb-7406-451e-b609-3978c3846aa1&cat=en_US_9d749b6a-5138-4a90-ba10-031318c00d76&lang=en&cr=US&p=1 Does configuring 2003 Server Standard as a file and print server affect the licensing grace period for TS? It has been used as such for years. I am seeing Event 1010 in the Event Viewer when logins are attempted.…

In using TS (Win2k3/XP) in per-user mode, does the CAL get issued to the domain account used to connect to the terminal server when the user logs in using Remote Desktop? - or - If I'm connecting to our TS from my home computer, will the CAL be issued to the account that I am logged into my home computer with? Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. TIA David S

device cal but set to user cal
by Guest paulc- 2 replies

I received a notification when I logged into our W2K3 term server that my temporary license was due to expire. I checked the licsening server and it is showing 8 device cal's in use. This is strange as I specifically set the termserv licensing to USER and not device. It is correctly showing my 50 user licenses but also the 8 device cal's. Why would termserv show both when I specifically set it to USER?

Terminal Server / Application Server / File Server
by Guest Cary W. Shultz- 1 reply

Good morning, TS-Land! I was just speaking with one of my colleagues about a new client and he wants to set up a Terminal Server that will also be the Application/File Server. We are looking at a Dell 2950 with dual Quad-Core XEON CPUs and 16GB of RAM (apparently this is going to be 64-bit?). He mentioned that it was his intention to make the TS box also the File Server. I suggested to him that we might want a separate server to do this. He disagreed. That is okay. Good healthy discussion is always a good thing. ;-) The new client is currently rather small but expects big growth. They think that they will be up to 50 employees within the next…

IE Broken?

Is there a "trick" to getting Internet Explorer to work on a 2003 r2 server running TS? When browsing to a page such a Google for example, it displays garbage instead of the normal Google page. The same holds true with the Microsoft pages and Windows/Microsoft Update. This happens on the server logged in as a user with admin rights or logged in to the TS as a user.

TS Server Usage

I'm just about to dip my toe into Terminal Services for the first time and have got just a couple of basic questions. I've got a spare Dell Poweredge 700 (2.8ghz & 2Gb ram) running Windows Server 2003 R2 and I was wondering: a) if this would be a suitable box to become a Terminal Server? b) how many clients could it reasonably be expected to handle? In the main, the box will be used by a remote office for Outlook and an SQL client application (the application itself is on another box). It will be a member server of a 7 user SBS 2003 network. Basic : using terminal services for monitoring
by Guest khurram- 0 replies

Hi, I am new to Terminal services. I wanted to know that if terminal services could be used for monitoring activities on the server e.g i have experienced that the server session terminates (logoff) when client connects to the server. what i want is that when client connects to the server the server should continue working normally and client only monitors activities on the server. If this is not possible, please point out which technology to use. Please comment on the use of VNC for this purpose.

alt/shift/ctrl keys stuck on RDP
by Guest Sergei Shelukhin- 0 replies

Hi. I am having the following problem with RDP connection to a box runing windows XP - often (about ever y15 minutes) my ctrl, alt or shift key would appear stuck, e.g. you press the button, release it and the system on the remote machine thinks the key is still held. To fix this you have to bash on the key repeatedly for some time :) At first, I thought that this was a keyboard probblem, however, I don't experience anything similar when I work in other programs on this PC (the one that RDP runs on); I don't experience any problems when I am working on the PC that I'm RDPing to directly (irl) too.

Hi, I'm just about to install my first Terminal Server to run SAP and have the following questions: 1. My disk is 120GB - what is the optimal partitioning scheme. It's a Dell box and is currently partitioned C= 12GB and D= 105GB. Is this Ok? 2. The OS is Server 2003. What happens when a client connects - do they see the application running under Server 2003 or do I need to install XP on the server for client sessions. 3. If a users saves from an application to the c driver, is this the actual server C drive or is it redirected somewhere. If the server C Drive how does this impact on partitoning scheme above. 4. When installing an application users to …
