I know there are various reasons why Local Printers dont work and understand one of them to be that appropriate drivers may not be available. Is there anywhere that gives lists of known printers that either do or dont work? (This is using TS on WS2003) TIA, JohnK

Mulitple Users can't open an Access database thru a shared folder
by Guest JohnNevener- 1 reply

We just installed a w2k3 Terminal Server this week and we have Access databases that live in shared folders, that multiple users need to use daily. Once an Access database is opened, it creates a lock (.ldb) as is expected. The problem is, once that lock is created, no other user can even open the Access db thru their mapped drive to the same share. I checked the share settings and it IS set to "maximum" users allowed. Anyone have an idea why this is happening?

No save desired for RDP download?
by Guest Rich Raffenetti- 1 reply
I have a terminal server where users execute applications by clicking an icon on a web page. The action causes an rdp file to download to their desktop. When the rdp is executed, a session is created to the terminal server. This works great for both windows and macintosh clients. The problem is that the download results in a dialog box asking whether to save or open (execute) the file. I don't want the users to save these files as they might be changed to add a feature, for example. That is, I want the open option and not the save option. Is there some way to inhibit the save option?

When logon, files get created in homedir on network
by Guest JTG- 6 replies

I can't find where this is taking place. When I logon to my terminal server, files get copied to the home directory of the users (set on a network share.) It only happens when logging on to the TS and no other servers or workstations. Roaming profiles are not setup and I cannot find anything in the startup group or the run key in the reg. I cannot find where to make this stop. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

All users printers showing up on terminal server
by Guest James- 2 replies

Hi, Windows 2003sp2 terminal server. XPsp2 and Vista clients. When the users log onto TS all the redirected printers are show on the printers dialogue. At present there are 50 printers on view (Approx 5 for each of the 10 users). I think this is caused by the fact that all users are "power users" on the 2003 server. Unfortunately this "power user" status is required to allow a bespoke database application to work. I'm aware that this a far from ideal but is there a way for each user to only see their own "redirected" printers not everyone elses. I could not see this in Group Policy only the ability to disable printer redirection On or OFF. Most users …

My q. is How many TS servers do I need for 80 users? Which line should be between the sites for 40 users working in ts session each session will be with outlook, word, application and IE? There are alot of printing regular files and large files. from 10 pages of word to 30 pages. Pls advice. Than'x Shay

Slow performance during certain hours.
by Guest Cardin Smith- 3 replies

We have a Terminal Server which at any given time can have 15 users connected to it. During normal working hours everything runs fairly well, with no performance issues. But at 7am and 5am (approximately), the system seems to grind to a hault.. this isn't a heavy usage time, and it could be only a few of the users experiencing this problem and not all of them. The service is spread out over 3 sites, Head office and Small office A & B. The following faults also appear in the Application event log: Event ID:1053 - Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. (The RPC server is unavailiable). Event ID:1001 - Fault bucket 443141905 (Application Ha…

I am planning a migration from my current Windows 2003 SP2 Terminal Server to a new Windows 2003 TErminal Server. I will rebuild a new box - fresh windows 2003 server SP2 and installed the software currently on my TS box. A few questions - 1 - What is the best approach for migrating the following: - licenses - profiles - printers ( specifically remote TS printers) I would also like to disable the desktop for Users - so they only have access to what I decide. How can I deploy a custom desktop to the Users? Thanks, SJMP

NLB Terminal nodes question
by Guest Jeff- 3 replies
As example: I have 2 nodes participating in a NLB farm. When a user is directed to node1 the user's program opens an internet explorer window and it uses the adobe reader plug-in to display a pdf file in the browser window and it works well. If the user is directed to node2 on login, doing the same thing it won't allow and it says that there is a problem with adobe reader and it closes the window but then will start downloading the pdf to a temp directory and opens in adobe. Same program versions, adobe versions, settings that I know of, trusted sites, etc. any ideas?

I have a main office with 5 users and a remote office with 1 user and a printer and a scale connected to com2:. I have a SBS server and a 2003 terminial server running. My remote user can use RWW to login to the the SBS SERVER then conect to the terminal server under SERVERS on the main menu to run my apps and allow network users to print to the remote office. One of the apps we use needs a scale. The remote office has a scale that is attached to a serial port. The scale works when he is running the app locally but not when he run it off the terminal server. From what I read we can access the remote serial port using RDP but if we connect to the SBS netw…
