2019 Mac Pro SSD - can it be deleted without the same Mac Pro?
by Guest rondocap- 0 replies

Let’s say you remove the stock SSD from a 2019 Mac Pro, but no longer have that same Mac Pro. It will have to be deleted when connected and paired with a different 2019 Mac Pro right? Is there a way to delete the data without a Mac Pro? Source: MacRumors

2019 Mac Pro virtualization - Windows gaming?
by Guest Fastball32- 0 replies
Hi, Does anyone have a high end 2019 Mac Pro and can comment on what Windows virtualization is like with VMWare or Parallels? I prefer to have Mac OS on one monitor, then have a Windows 10 OS on another monitor and switch between the two via a virtualization program. Would Windows be efficient and snappy enough to do light gaming, video editing, etc? I assume it would be "good enough" to do most tasks, but wondering what the overall experience would be like, especially something intensive... Read more Source: MacRumors

2019 MBP 15 not great w/Dell 4k monitor
by Guest /u/crispyuniverse- 0 replies

Hi guys, I recently purchased a Dell Ultrasharp 4k monitor (U3223QE) to use as an external secondary display with my MBP. However, I noticed that hooking it up to this high-res monitor slows my machine down by a lot, barely usable especially with playing videos, and also overheats. I am aware that macOS cannot natively run 4k but I didn't know it was going to be this bad to the overall performance. Wondering if upgrading my mac to the M3 MBP would fix my issue since I was looking to upgrade from my Intel MBP anyways. Any thoughts or similar experiences using a 4k monitor with MBPs? submitted by /u/crispyuniverse [link] [comments]

2020 iMac USB 3.1 to OWC enclosure
by Guest /u/Vmanjeff- 0 replies

I have an OWC Express 1M2 with a Crucial P3 Plus 2TB PCIe Gen4 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD inside. Attached to the iMac 3.1 USB port. Speed tests show 420mbps write/read where the 3.1 USB spec shows I should be getting faster speeds. I get I’ll probably not get 10gbps but I would expect higher speeds. I’m getting the same speeds from the NVMe drive as I’m getting from the 1Tb SSD attached. What am I missing? Is more info needed? I’m already using the T3 ports so they are out for this use. submitted by /u/Vmanjeff [link] [comments]

2020 M1 Macbook not connecting to any internet?
by Guest /u/vitalitruvia- 0 replies

Hi. My laptop has suddenly decided to no longer connect to any internet network. I live in student halls and use that network as my main one, I woke up one morning to my Mac telling me it was an 'unauthorised' network. I then tried connecting to my mobile hotspot, it connected but with no internet. Since then I've tried others and have had no luck. I had an almost identical situation with my PC, which was resolved by plugging a wifi receiver into it at all times - I refuse to believe that a relatively new macbook needs a usb wifi dongle in it all the time. any ideas? thanksss submitted by /u/vitalitruvia [link] [comments]

2020 Mac Pro

Hey guys, I’ve used my macbook pro all throughout undergrad. It still hasn’t gotten slow which is great. However I am unable to connect my icloud / phone to my mac all of a sudden. There’s hundreds maybe thousands of slideshows and documents I have downloaded for school that I’ll never look at again upon graduation. Do you guys think hard resetting my mac would help me 1 connect my phone and 2 make it less of a pain to maneuver? Here in a few years I’ll likely buy a real PC mac but for the time being I’m not sure what to do with my current laptop. submitted by /u/Few_Beautiful_871 [link] [comments]

2020 Macbook Air got wet but still works — worth anything?

Hello everyone. I have a 2020 Macbook Air M1 chip with 16GB RAM. While I like Mac.... I decided I'd rather stick to Windows from now on. I can't drop money on a second machine so was hoping to trade in or sell this one for something capable of running similar speeds. However, I know that this computer once had water spilled on the keyboard. It runs fine though, it's been several months since then and no issue. How much do you think that spill history could change the worth, if at all? I'm trying to figure out how much this laptop would be worth. I've seen used ones going for $2-300 online. 2020 MacBook air Touch ID button problem

It doesn’t constantly lock the laptop, shut it down, etc however it does make it very unpredictable to use when you are trying to do something with it. Are there any easy fixes? Apple support has already been contacted and they suggested a shop visit, however I am away for a while still. (ps: excuse the dirty keyboard ) submitted by /u/SwimmingInspector186 [link] [comments]

2020 MBP or 2022 MBA
by Guest /u/ThiccCookies803- 0 replies

Looking to buy a MacBook for school, light gaming, photo editing, and general use. from my research I have two pretty good options, a 2020 M1 MBP with 16gb ram and 1tb ssd (refurbished by a 3rd party) and a 2022 MBA with 16gb ram, and 256gb ssd (refurbished by Apple via the Amazon store). Both of these are 1100$ CAD. the main dilemma I face with these choices is the monitors, I have 2 right now but only one works with the MBA. One of the monitors I have is pretty bad though so I wouldn’t be to sad to part ways with it if the performance was that considerable in difference. which one would be better? submitted by /u/ThiccCookies803 [link] [comments]

2021 M1 MBP - Will not boot
by Guest /u/pyrexpirate- 0 replies

Essentially, I’ve had my Mac disconnected from power for about a week so it was likely dead. After letting it charge for about an hour, I noticed that it still seemed dead. After unplugging the device from the power and plugging it back it, I noticed that the device “chimes” as if it’s about to boot. Instead it flashes the Apple logo with a progress bar of about ~40% and immediately vanishes and becomes otherwise unresponsive. Anyone experienced this before? I’m finding it difficult to find others that have fixed this issue before. submitted by /u/pyrexpirate [link] [comments]

2023 M2 Ultra Mac Pro for $4999 new - at MicroCenter
by Guest rondocap- 0 replies

MicroCenter has the 2023 base Mac Pro M2 Ultra for $4999 brand new. I got one from them, they're excellent to deal with. If you have a Micro Center near you, that is a nice $2000 savings and makes it a better value than it was before. You can add Apple Care on it as well like normal after purchase, they are an authorized Apple seller. Just figured I'd share since that is where I got mine and someone was on the fence! 2023 Mac Pro - adding internal PCIe storage?
by Guest wgr73- 0 replies

Hey guys! I have my new M2 Ultra Mac Pro with only a 1 TB SSD. I’m looking to add 4+TB in the PCIe slots What do you recommend? I see OWC sells a few different setups (8TB setups are nice as well). I’m not sure what all works in the new M2, but by the looks of it even the older 2019 PCIe stuff should work. Am I missing something? Not really looking to add the Apple 5TB NVME stuff Source: MacRumors

2023 Mac Pro is very useful
by Guest SDAVE- 0 replies

I've been seeing a lot of negativity about the Mac Pro 2023 being "useless". Majority of people who need the 2023 MP do not post on forums here or anywhere. These are production companies that have PCIe cards that need to be put into the new Mac Pro. Music, Video, Etc. Colorists, Music producers, editors, and so on. A lot of these production companies "lease" Macs and they swap it every 12-36 months. They have endless supply of money so the $3,000 that's extra on top of a similar... Read more Source: MacRumors

2023 Mac Pro M2 Ultra - my potential use case
by Guest Geddon_jt- 0 replies

Hi everyone, I am very close to ordering a 2023 Mac Pro. This is clearly a controversial product - I thought that perhaps by posting my intended use perhaps some alternative perspectives would be helpful before I make my final decision. My wife and I are digital photographers, myself a hobbyist and she is a professional doing paid shoots. It is not unusual for us to be processing 30-50GB worth of RAW files for a given shoot (we shoot digital medium format and high MP full frame digital)... Read more Source: MacRumors

2023 Mac Pro SSD configuration and its performance
by Guest bxs- 0 replies

The 2023 Mac Pro can be configured with 1, 2, 4 and 8 TB internal SSD. The 2023 Mac Pro has two SSD module slot connectors for the SSD modules. The 1TB config uses a 1TB module in one of the two SSD slots The 2TB config uses a 2TB module in one of the two SSD slots The 4TB config uses 2x 2TB modules with each one occupying a slot - meaning both slots are populated The 8TB config uses 2x 4TB modules with each one occupying a slot - meaning both slots are populated My question is for... 2023: Adding BT to Mac Pro 5.1 for Magic Mouse Support
by Guest ADDvanced- 0 replies

So I had a Mac Pro with built in BT, I think it was a 5.1 hex core, and my magic mouse worked perfectly. Then I found a deal on a dual CPU 4.1, and swapped over to that, but it did not have built in wifi or BT, so I ordered the factory card, and BT works when I first boot up the machine, but at some point it just turns off, I get a squiggle on the top menu bar through the logo, and it will not work again until I reboot. I've also noticed my magic mouse is just a bit laggy enough now to be... Read more Source: MacRumors

Some gestures require OS X Lion or later to use, and so…

256 vs 512 for office tasks
by Guest /u/liftingrussian- 0 replies

Hi everyone, I just ordered the macbook air m3 15“ in the 256gb version. It‘s simply for office tasks at work, really nothing special and I won‘t be installing much stuff on it and for files etc we have a dedicated cloud at work. I own a gaming pc for personal things and gaming obviously so all personal stuff and apps will be installed there. Now I‘ve heard that the base version with 256gb has some flaws regarding speed. Is it really something that could influence my daily work on the device? Should I return it and get the 512gb version? Thanks for advice submitted by /u/liftingrussian [link] [comments]

256Gb & iCloud+ or 512Gb???

iCloud+ or Internal Storage To put in context; A couple of weeks ago I bought a 256Gb iPhone 11 Pro Max on BackMarket, after uploading the backup I realized that I have 80Gb left and I thought about buying the same device with 512Gb now that I am in the withdrawal period or continue with this and buy iCloud+ 200Gb in the future. On refurbished market you don't know what could come, sure its going to be a funtional device but it would be disappointing for me to receive an iphone with... Read more Continue reading...
