The good news is that most of these are very quick to fix, so follow along and you’ll be starting up a Mac quicker in no time at all. </p>…

4,1 flashed and chiped
by Guest Puretexan2- 0 replies

Wasn't going to flash my 4,1 to 5,1, but decided to anyway. Bought the cheapest Nvida Geforce GT 710 2GB. Bought two chips on ebay, and went from 2.66ghz to 3.03 ghz. That worked perfect. I did use the squash your chips in the vice and delidded them. I was going to clean the solder off like everyone does, but decided to pass on that. Worked perfect. So you can buy a cheap graphics card that has a boot screen and makes your flashed 5,1 metal. Also can stop wasting time scraping the old solder... Read more Source: MacRumors

4,1 flashed to 5,1 MP EFI 1.5 feedback
by Guest simon5413- 0 replies
I'm troubleshooting an AHCI issue and in so doing have discovered I apparently need to update my firmware on my 2009 MP (flashed from 4 to 5,1) from 1.39f5 to 1.5. I'm looking for feedback from people with the same setup who have done this in High Sierra and enjoyed "GREAT SUCCESS", or cautions from the same kind of people? Since the problem I'm troubleshooting is not really affecting my primary use of the machine, I'm a bit apprehensive of doing a firmware update unless it's totally... Read more Source: MacRumors

4,1 MP with no audio in Windows 10
by Guest CYB3RBYTE- 0 replies
Hi, I recently purchased a 4,1 MP to replace my 3,1 MP with, and set it up on Catalina using dosdude1's patchers. It runs great in macOS, and I installed Windows on a different SSD in the machine, but I get no audio in Windows. I've tried using both cirrus drivers included in the bootcamp drivers, they both install successfully and allow me to see audio devices in the toolbar, but they make no actual audio. I'm using a pair of harmon kardon soundsticks 2, and they work great in Catalina, so... Read more Source: MacRumors

4,1->5,1 Firmware Update and early OS Compatibility
by Guest GoJohnGo- 0 replies
I'm considering flashing my 4,1 to a 5,1 and am curious if the firmware updates (currently at MP41.0081.B07) affect early OS compatibility. For example, Everymac.com states my early 2009 originally shipped with 10.5.6. If I flash it to a 5,1, does that mean the earliest version it will work with is what the 5,1 originally shipped with (10.6.4)? Does the same apply for subsequent firmware updates? If not, do the firmware updates still work with an OS earlier than the one they... Read more Source: MacRumors

4,1/5,1 to 7,1: things I've noticed.
by Guest mattspace- 0 replies

So just some notes about the niceties, and "wish it was the old way" of the difference between the machines. This is a big one I just noticed - I have 3 displays, and my two side displays always had this shadowing pattern - like a burn-in, organic in shape, about 0.5 to 1.5 cm wide along the display's bottom edge. That's gone. Which makes me wonder if it was a bug in the Sapphire Pulse RX580, or the cables it was connected with. The machine is dead quiet. Now the loudest thing... Read more Source: MacRumors

4,1>5,1 won't power up
by Guest zephonic- 0 replies

I replaced my cMP with a current MBP a few months ago, and hadn't turned it on for a while. Two days ago I needed some files I forgot to transfer from the old machine but it won't power up now. What could be the problem? Would I need a new PSU? Where would I get one? Thanks. It's a 4,1 with the netkas 5,1 fix, W3680, 24GB RAM, HD5770, two SSD's on PCIe cards and a bunch of HDD drives. 4.1 Dual CPU Delid? or Leave the lid down?
by Guest Vicromono- 0 replies

After a great experience upgrading a single CPU 4.1 to 5.1 six core 3.33, I now have the opportunity to upgrade a dual CPU 4.1. Firstly, it's only because of this forum and the helpful information available here. Very little is out there on the subject of "Delidding". So, I am going to document my experiences here. I started by research and observation of others pulling, heating, hammering, cutting and prying the IHS (integrated heat spreader) from the CPU for proper spacing between the... 4.1>5.1 W3520 to X5690 Upgrade Help!
by Guest taiji212- 0 replies

Hi, I have 2009 Nehalem Single CPU 4.1>5.1. Original owner. Been working fine for many years. Upgraded CPU W3520 to X5690 Rarely boots normally. Most of the time, no boot chime. Once it boots, everything works normally. No issues with temps or fans. SMC reset is the only thing which improves chances of boot chime. But it only helps like 20% of the time. Have to hold power button down to shut down, then try again with random success rate. Did PRAM resets many times. Bought new X5690. No... Read more Source: MacRumors

4K Display on MP 5,1 with R9 280x
by Guest Taipan- 0 replies

Hi! I need a new display for my old Mac Pro (4,1>) 5,1, and I‘m thinking about going 4k. Now I just read that there are some boot issues with these old machines and DP 1.2. But I haven‘t quite understood how severe they are going to. Can someone please distill this down for me? My graphics card is a PowerColor R9 280x flashed with Mac ROM. My understanding is that I can drive a 4K display @ 60Hz on the DP port, but that‘s going to give me trouble with booting - unless, so I have read, I‘m... Read more Source: MacRumors

I am tryna get an idea of what I need in terms of specs .to accomplish this task. For music videos . I like recording music videos scenes any where from 2 to 4 minutes long in 4k . I have multiple recordings of the same scenes in diffrent angles and b roll roll footage and other stuff . So my question is how much footage can I load on the software like Final Cut or adobe . I want the footage to line up side by side so I can see all the different possibility’s and arrangements I can make when I need to jump from scene to scene . I may have some where from 5 to 8 maybe 10 different recording about 2 to 4 minutes long . What should my specs be to accomplish this . I’m lookin…

4K60hz from MacPro 3,1 to 40" TV
by Guest Mindprober- 0 replies

Long time lurker, first time poster. Currently have a very functional MacPro 3,1 GTX680 4GB (Flashed). When I upgraded to Catalina using the Dosdude patcher, the DisplayPort stopped working. After a bunch of trial and error fixes, set aside the mac and moved back to a PC. PC is a simple Dell workstation, using onboard displayport. I've got this displayport hooked up to a 40" TV using a active DP -> HDMI. With this cable setup I get 4K 60Hz on the TV. Its a Vizio 4K TV. Coming back to the... Read more Source: MacRumors

5,1 - Boot loop/kernel panic with Radeon Pro W5500
by Guest rm5- 0 replies

I just installed a Radeon Pro W5500 that I had in a PC, thinking it would work. So I booted the Mac Pro with the W5500, and it appeared to work, albeit with no graphics acceleration. So I installed the post-volume patches for OpenCore, and now it's in a boot loop. Any ideas why? Is this card somehow not supported? Source: MacRumors
