6,1 Riser Upgrade
by Guest sshambles- 0 replies
Hey Crew, I've been slowly upgrading a 6,1 MP for the last few months and had 2 out of 4 ram slots not working. Checked and it seems to be a very solid thing. As such I purchased a new CPU riser and plan on installing it soon. I'm aware that there have been sleep issues with the MP6,1 - so originally although it had Monterey installed, I downgraded to High Sierra and then to Catalina (where I thought I would keep it) and eventually Big Sur (to where I have to keep it for certain software... 6900XT + Apple's New Monitor
by Guest SDAVE- 0 replies
Hey guys I have an OEM 6900XT that's working great in a 2019 Mac Pro connected to dual LG4k 27" monitors running at 4k via DisplayPort. I know that TB3 isn't routed through since I took out the 580X (really horrible GPU btw). Will there be a way for us with OEM GPUs to use the new Apple Studio Display? Specifically two of them. I know Sonnet makes a GPU (probably with a different firmware) that allows to use the USBC port as TB3? Or do we need to get the MPX module? Source: MacRumors

6900XT and RTX 4090FE together in 7,1?
by Guest LEOMODE- 0 replies

It seems like RTX 4090 FE requires 4 pins in Mac Pro which takes away 2 from 6900XT. How will you be able to connect both 6900XT and 4090FE together? I have MPX module for W5700X but don't want to connect that. Thanks. Source: MacRumors

This isn't your typical Android security story. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/android-security-audit-100632057-primary.idge_zpsf7qseru6.jpg Most articles about Android security tools focus on malware-scanning suites like Lookout, Norton and AVG. But with the layers of protection already built into the platform, those sorts of apps are arguably unnecessary and often counterproductive -- or even needlessly expensive. For most Android users, the seven tools below should cover all the important bases of device and data security. Some are third-party apps, while others are native parts of the Android operating system. They all, however, will pr…

Windows 10 may be “free,” but there’s a price to pay for claiming your no-cost upgrade from Windows 7 or 8: The operating system’s brimming with ads designed to coax you into buying this app or using that Microsoft service. Some of the ads are pretty unobtrusive, to be fair. Several get right up in your face, however—an unfortunate experience in any case, but one that hurts even more if you’ve already dropped $100-plus on a Windows 10 license rather than snagging a free upgrade. Fortunately, most of Windows 10’s ad pushing can be disabled with a few simple menu tweaks, and it’s worth making the effort to do so, since Windows 10 is the best Windows yet…

7,1 6900xt To LG 5K Ultrafine
by Guest infohou- 0 replies

Hello Folks, I did not find this exact situation when I searched. I have a 6900XT card coming hopefully on Thursday. It has two full size display port connectors and one HDMI. The LG monitor has only a Thunderbolt input connector. I am not finding an adapter that goes that direction. Or will the TBolt connectors on the supplied internal expansion card send the video via one of it's TBolt ports as is the case now with the MX Vega Pro II I have now? No Amazon links please. Thanks, Robert Source: MacRumors

7,1 is the last Mac Pro that run GPUs from Intel, AMD and Nvidia dGPUs via PCI-e slot
by Guest exoticSpice- 0 replies
Sadly, the 7,1 will be the Mac Pro do so. I don't think Apple's dGPUs will be cost effective compared to other high-end cards In the future maybe for the Druid line from Intel we may see competing with AMD and Nvidia and this givs 7,1 owners to try those GPUs from Intel too. what the 8,1 won't have is the GPU versatility that the 7,1 will have? Apple's GPUs don't even have Hardware based Ray-tracing yet and all major vendors (AMD, Intel and Nvidia) do. Source: MacRumors

7.1 Behaving odd and slow, update related or what can it be?
by Guest rondocap- 0 replies

My 7.1 is behaving oddly, I'm not sure when it started, but it is possible it is tied to the last Mac OS update. (Regular one, not beta) I'm getting some lag, beach balls, and general slow downs that were never there before. This is on a 28 core Mac Pro with a W6800X Duo and 96GB of ram, 4TB SSD. Any idea what can be causing this slow down? Is the last update to blame or should I look for some other issue? Source: MacRumors

7.1 Mac Pro next to Mac Studio - don't worry, it's still good
by Guest rondocap- 0 replies

Got the Ultra Mac Studio in - here it is next to the 7.1 Mac Pro. From working with it so far, it's a beautiful little machine, tons of power. Doesn't feel much faster on the every day use side of things, perhaps apps open a faster, but not too noticeable vs the Mac Pro. Just did some R3d raw files, have not timed them yet - but "seat of the pants" feels slower than my 28 core, W6800x Duo Mac Pro with similar files I've done. Still, very impressive! Plan to do tests and comparisons Source: MacRumors

I have a "Sapphire HD-7950 Vapor-X 3GB with OC boost" GPU card in my cMP 5,1 (MacOS 10.13.6 Hgh Sierra) which I bought used and am trying to figure out as it's not behaving as expected when it comes to attaching two displays to the two DVI connectors. Its behaviour differs when in Windows 7 compared to MacOS, and also the various BIOS (ROM) files I've tried out. It's quite confusing As the card has had two previous owners I'm not sure of its history; whether it came with the... Read more Source: MacRumors

My MacPro, 5,1144.0.0.0, and the graphics card hd7970 have been used for 3 years. Everything is normal. However, I failed to upgrade 12.4. After returning to 12.3.1, the mini DP port has no signal. After the test, I found that the separate DVI works normally. Press option when starting up. There are hard disk options and boot logo. When the minidp port works alone, you can only wait until you enter the system to see the password input box without the boot logo. Press option to see nothing... Read more Source: MacRumors

8 GB of RAM is atrocious with Apple Intelligence
by Guest /u/TechExpert2910- 0 replies
I've been testing Apple Intelligence (the on-device LLM-based writing tools), and the LLM alone uses ~3 GB of RAM. Even with just a few light apps open, memory pressure skyrockets from 30% to 80%, and every invocation causes a significant amount of swap thrashing to the SSD—up to 500 Mbps of write activity due to swapping! The CPU works overtime, handling memory compression and managing the swap, which causes the device (13" M4 iPad Pro) to heat up, slow down, and kill background apps. Apple will almost certainly put 12 GB of RAM in the next iPhone—8 GB is simply too low to run a decent LLM. They'll probably also lock Apple Intelligence v2 to that higher configur…
