A ton (actually, two) of 2019 Mac Pros on eBay
by Guest Kimmo- 0 replies

While waiting on the Apple Silicon Mac Pro, and pondering whether I should just "settle" for a Mac Studio, I've been checking the eBay listings for the other option, a 2019 Pro. If you're looking for a 2019, there's has been a substantial increase in the number of machines listed on eBay. By my count, 21 in the last couple of days and a total of 99. https://ir.ebaystatic.com/cr/v/c1/ebay-logo-1-1200x630-margin.png apple mac pro 2019 | eBay Buy and sell electronics, cars, fashion apparel, collectibles, sporting goods, digital cameras, baby items, coupons, and everything else on eBay, the world's online marketplace www.ebay.com A lot of the recent listings h…

A weird charging cable issue

A month or so ago I bought two usb-a to lightning cables from the Apple store since both the ones at home and in my car were fraying. I now have this problem where the phone keeps connecting and disconnecting even though the cable in properly plugged in at both ends. I captured this on a screen recording here: https://www.dropbox.com/temp_thumb_from_token/s/thl92vq1j0yk203?preserve_transparency=False&size=1200x1200&size_mode=4 RPReplay_Final1663482145.MP4 Shared with Dropbox https://cfl.dropboxstatic.com/static/metaserver/static/images/favicon-vfl8lUR9B.ico www.dropbox.com If you look at the battery icon it shows as if the phone is being repeatedly co…

A working browser for 2008 iMac
by Guest /u/mobdk- 0 replies
Just bought a 2008 iMac 20” for 50 bucks for my daughter to use and for keeping my old iPods synced. However, I can’t seem to be able to find a browser that will allow this iMac to access anything other than google. So it is unusable as far as internet goes. I have googled legacy browsers but can’t find anywhere to download them. Is it even possible for these old computers to work with the modern internet? submitted by /u/mobdk [link] [comments]

Ableconn eSATA Port Multiplier PCIe card PEX-SA134
by Guest MidijonQ- 0 replies

I have an Ableconn eSATA Port Multiplier PCIe card PEX-SA134 that worked well on a 2010 Mac Pro in Big Sur. I would like to plug it in to a new 2023 Mac Pro but see it is a legacy BIOS card made to work on an UEFI intel system. Will it work? Can I just try it and plug it in without damaging the system? (I have about 30 backup drives in several Firmtek 5M enclosures, I'd be pleased to continue to use without rehousing.) Source: MacRumors

about PowerLink with cMP/RX5700XT/RX6800 power question
by Guest ddhhddhh2- 0 replies

Hello everyone, I have a question about cMP + EVGA PowerLink. Yes, I understand, I've done my research and indeed found many recommendations. However, one thing still isn't clear to me. I noticed that many demonstrations simply connect the two mini power supplies from the motherboard to the EVGA PowerLink, and then install the PowerLink on the graphics card, which looks very elegant and simple. But if I recall correctly, the two mini power supplies on the motherboard can only provide a... Read more Source: MacRumors

About to upgrade my 2017 iMac 27", few questions, any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am finally opening up my 2017 iMac 27" to put a SATA SSD in it and clean the fan. Since it's an invasive procedure, I will be going the extra mile by upgrading my CPU from an i5 to an i7 7700K as well. I already have the new SSD set up as my boot disk, I'm using it via usb at the moment. But I'm not really familiar with NVMe. I currently have a 3,5" 1TB HDD. In the system report under the NVMExpress tab I can see that I have an APPLE SSD SM0032L, which tells me that I used to have fusion drive set up, but through formatting and partitioning over the years I had lost it and never really bothered to set it up. (I didn't even know what it was, I thought apple just calle…

Acasis TBU401E as external drive for iPhone 15 Pro
by Guest dborod- 0 replies
Hi, I have an Acasis TBU401E with a 2 TB Samsung 970 plus. This device works great when connected to my Mac Studio. I recently acquired an iPhone 15 Pro, and am trying to get it to connect as an external drive to my Phone, for ProRes recording and general file storage. I have tried both ExFat and APFS, a variety of Thunderbolt 3, 4 and other USB-C data cables, all of which permit high speed transfer between the Mac Studio and the TBU401E, but when connected to the phone, the drive is... Accelerated dataframes on Metal

Hi there, I'm a policy analyst who runs large simulations. I currently use a Precision 7760, with most of my pipelines being sped up by cuDF on an NVIDIA A5000 with 12 GB VRAM. I code primarily in Python, R, and Rust. The GPU acceleration speeds up my simulations by about 70x. I have been seriously considering switching to a MacBook Pro M4. But, I am not too keen on giving up GPU acceleration. Realistically, what are my options? I am not too keen on rewriting a large chunk of my models in MSL to run on the GPU. To those recommending cloud GPU providers - my work is bound by a few security protocols that prevent me from offloading data to an external site. s…

Accelerated fans Mac Pro 5.1

Hello, I have a 2009 Mac Pro Xeon. Recently, I upgraded it with a CPU tray featuring dual 2.93 GHz Intel Xeon 6-core processors, totaling 12 cores, 64 GB of RAM, and installed Monterey using OpenCore. Everything worked perfectly, but after the upgrade, as soon as I turn on the Mac, the fans kick in with an unbearable noise. However, the Mac is not overheating; the machine is very fast, but the high fan speed is very bothersome! Help Source: MacRumors

Access Alternate Contact Methods from Messages with 3D Touch on iPhone
by Guest Paul Horowitz- 0 replies

Most iPhone users who are communicating in the Messages app will leave the application and then launch Mail or the Phone app if they wish to continue a conversation through a phone call, FaceTime, or email. For modern iPhones with 3D Touch screens, there’s another option that’s even quicker to jump to a different communication ... Access Handoff in iOS Quickly from the Multitasking Screen
by Guest Paul Horowitz- 0 replies

Handoff is the great feature which, much as it sounds, allows iOS and Mac users to ‘hand off’ activity from an app on one device to another, whether that’s an email composition, web browsing session, chat, or work in Pages. Assuming you have Handoff enabled on multiple Apple devices using the same Apple ID, you ...
