AMD 6900XT USB-C port randomly not turning on
by Guest LEOMODE- 0 replies
I recently got a new AMD 6900XT reference card. I connected triple monitors with 2 DisplayPorts and 1 USB-C port (using USB-C to DisplayPort connector). However, whenever it's awake from sleep, I 90% of the time have to unplug the USB-C port and reconnect it in order for the monitor to pop up. This happens on both Mac OS Big Sur and Boot Camp Windows 10 latest as of today. Note this never happened in my other cards (W5700X and RTX3090 Founder's Edition). Is this occurring to anyone? My... AMD GPU users getting 120hz ?
by Guest turbineseaplane- 0 replies

Hi Got a new Gigabyte M32U (4k/144hz/IPS) monitor today and was all excited about it after initial usage and testing and firmware updating and overall enjoyment in Windows 11.. ...but then I get to macOS And I'm stuck at no more than 98hz, and I can't figure out the why/how other than it seems like maybe DSC is broken? HDR is off and I have a correct DP 1.4 cable (have tried a couple just in case) and -- full 10bit/144/4k is working great in Windows 11 Does anyone have any tips or... Read more Source: MacRumors

AMD Polaris, Vega, & Navi GPU macOS Support
by Guest MisterAndrew- 0 replies
This thread is about compatibility of Polaris, Vega, & Navi GPUs with the Mac Pro. This information is mostly reference for Mac Pro 4,1 (2009), 5,1 (2010, 2012), and 7,1 (2019). Mac Pro 6,1 (2013) users may also find this information useful since it is possible to connect an eGPU via the Thunderbolt 2 bus, with a TB2 to TB3 adapter and a software patch. Please help others in the community by sharing your experiences with these cards. Also be aware that the behaviors of these cards may be... Read more Continue reading...

AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo Graphic Card High Energy Consumption
by Guest Kentrent- 0 replies
Hello Group!! I have two AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo MPX module and both MPX running pretty hot even at idle. I looked up and it said each MPX uses about 445watts of power. So does this mean every time the Mac Pro 7.1 runs, since I have two of this graphic cards, it consumes at least 890 watts of power? or is this energy consumptions is only when it's actually computing task (like rendering or anything graphic intense tasks)? Because if its always using this much energy then the... Read more Source: MacRumors

AMD Radeon Pro W6800X / W6900X MPX Cards - Refresh Rate Crippled?
by Guest LeonPro- 0 replies
When using the AMD Vega II Pro MPX card under Mac OS or Windows Bootcamp, the maximum refresh rate I can get on a third-party Asus rated at 144Hz Monitor is 100Hz. Is this the limitation of the Vega II which I'm not convinced since it should be a relatively powerful enough to drive at least 2 x 6K monitors like the XDR. If I install a third-party Gigabyte 6900XT OC card, thge maximum refresh rate I can get under Mac OS for the Asus 144Hz monitor is also 100Hz. But under Windows Bootcamp, I... AMD Radeon R9 Fury X in Mac Pro 5,1
by Guest theitsage- 0 replies

I've been busy with eGPU testings in the past few months and was not spending much time on the Mac Pro. Santa was very good to me with an R9 Fury X liquid cooling so I thought it's a perfect time to get back on the Mac Pro tower. The Radeon R9 Fury X fits inside the Mac Pro tower like a glove. Power management was a bit of a challenge. I'd highly recommend the Pixlas mod to provide upto 400W this beast of a GPU may consume. A big "Thank You!" to okrasit, Fl0r!an for discovering the CU... AMD Radeon RX 5700
by Guest handheldgames- 0 replies

With the launch of the Radeon RX 5700, AMD has delivered an updated card that appears to work within the 4,1 / 5,1 cMP's power capabilities,(75 watts - PCIe slot, 75 watts - PCIe aux1, 75 watts PCIe aux 2) without having to make the power supply mod. Are there any NAVI based drivers lurking in Mojave? Or is this next generation of graphics hardware destined to be supported only in Catalina... Read more Source: MacRumors

AMD Radeon RX 580 works in macOS
by Guest theitsage- 0 replies

It has the same PCI ID 67DF as RX 480. I simply swapped the RX 480 out for the RX 580 and all was good to go. Due to the higher TDP, both PCIe booster cables go to one GPU rather one each for the reference cooler RX 480. https://forums.macrumors.com/attachments/rx-580-about-this-mac-mac-pro-png.696854/ https://forums.macrumors.com/data/attachments/611/611983-7cbc50ed662fdb2caba83c30e9548fe7.jpg https://forums.macrumors.com/data/attachments/611/611980-99384c606b4c7711a4b9facb4cec74e8.jpg https://forums.macrumors.com/attachments/rx-580-mac-pro-tower-jpg.696857/ Source: MacRumors

AMD Radeon VII on the Mac Pro 5,1 - Mojave 10.14.4 and 10.14.5 Beta driver results.
by Guest monoton- 0 replies

Hi, I will share some benchmarking done running the Radeon VII on my Mac Pro 5,1. It has the pixlas mod (PCIe power breakout cable from the PSU mobo-connector) done on it, so I have no power issues. I tested it with the Vega 10 driver, and the Vega 12 driver which resulted in freezes. The Vega 12 driver only activates 20 compute units, while the Vega 10 driver will utilise the full 60. In short, one can add the card's ID 0x66AF1002 to the AMDRadeonX5000.kext’s Info.plist in macOS 10.14.4... Read more Source: MacRumors

AMD RX580 no display output, “No Kext Loaded”
by Guest Cwheels123- 0 replies

Hello, I have had a couple of threads but I have still had no luck with getting an AMD RX580 to work. Previously, I tried using an XFX AMD. This did not have any display output. I gave up with this card and bought a used Nitro Sapphire RX580. Still no output. I have reinstalled a fresh copy of high sierra, still nothing. On the systems report, you see that the AMD is not being picked up and has the kernel extension “No Kext Loaded”. NOTE: I had this report on both the nitro and XFX... Read more Source: MacRumors

AMD video card for Mac Pro with boot screen
by Guest Calab- 0 replies

I have a mid 2012 Mac Pro that I'm trying to put back into service. I've installed a "patched" version of Catalina 10.15.7. Right now it has an nVidia GTX680 video card, meaning I get no acceleration. I also have this machine dual booting to Linux Mint 22 using reFind. I'm having issues with the nVidia driver under Linux. This machine is connected to a 4K display via HDMI. I want to replace the nVidia GTX680 with an AMD card so I can avoid using the default framebuffer under Mac OS and... Read more Source: MacRumors

Amfeltech Angelshark x2 NVME Carrier Board for Mac Pro 2013 blue light
by Guest PresidentRoss- 0 replies
So whenever I boot my Mac Pro I notice a blue light emitting from the Amfeltech board via the bottom vents. The manual doesn’t mention what any of the lights mean, and one of my NVMEs doesn’t show when this happens. What does the blue light mean (or if you know what all of them mean please let me know) that way I can solve this issue. Thanks! Source: MacRumors

An alternative way to get EFI64 vid cards to work in EFI32 Mac Pros?
by Guest AdvocateUK- 0 replies
Hi all, A thought just occurred to me. With all the excellent ROM hacking n flashing that goes on here with the various video cards to get them working in machines they shouldn't would it be possible to somehow figure out a way to get one of Apples EFI64 firmware updates and somehow get it to magically upgrade our EFI32 Mac Pros to EFI64? It may be impossible, I wouldn't know. But if anyone can figure it out it's you guys! ;) Regards Alistair Source: MacRumors

An answer to "Is 8GB enough?" Apple finally says "No"
by Guest /u/NortonBurns- 0 replies

I've argued it for a decade. We now have the official answer. None of the latest announcements includes an 8GB model. The smallest RAM Mac we have at home is a 16GB M1 iMac, because that was all that was possible at the time. submitted by /u/NortonBurns [link] [comments]
