What Ho Chaps, No1 daughter is debating across the dinner table about using a paid for antivirus prog - specifically Norton. She asked her Aged P what I used and I said those nice people at FPCH had said Windows Defender was OK to use and it came as part of W10 and I liked things that were free ! I've been using it now for several years and it's one of those things you just don't notice if it's working or not - - I've not had any problems it's just there and I assume it updates at the same time as W10 does. So dear chaps what's the current thinking should No1 daughter (and me) go for Norton antivirus - maybe it covers some stuff WD doesn't or is WD sufficient …

Hi, Im trying to get internet access to a cctv system. Problem number 1 is the location of the CCTV system, which is in a barn away from the main house...some 80mtrs away. I setup the CCTV which has a LAN connection, so just as an experiment I tried a Homeplug version1 unit connected to System, and another in the router at the house. I know this is a big ask, as.... The router is using an upstairs ring-main, so the "signal" would have to travel down to fuseboard, across to the circuit feeding a garage, then onto the circuit feeding the barn, then again onto the circuit feeding the CCTV... I can already hear people saying NO WAY... however on connection my Homeplug ver 1 c…

Hi all. I have a wireless dead spot in the house. I have a spare D’Link DIR615 router. I have a ethernet cable running from the back of my Vodafone router into the loft. I accessed the D’Link, went to wireless manual settings, and entered channel 6 (Vodafone is on 13), identical SsiD, identical security, identical password. Went to LAN, unticked DHCP and entered a static ip of 192.168.1.50. Changed router password and saved settings. Took the router into the loft and plugged in and connected the ethernet to one of the four ports. I can see one wireless option with the correct SSID but all that happens is devices are searching but never connect. When I u…

The announcement comes just six months after Yahoo and AOL parent company Oath discontinued AIM. If you're interested in downloading your Yahoo Messenger chat history, be sure to do that soon. Pour one out for Yahoo Messenger. Yahoo has announced plans to discontinue the vintage chat service on July 17, 2018. "We know we have many loyal fans who have used Yahoo Messenger since its beginning as one of the first chat apps of its kind," the company wrote. "As the communications landscape continues to change over, we're focusing on building and introducing new, exciting communications tools that better fit consumer needs." Yahoo first introduced the chat ser…

I've downloaded this and added photo's in the clips timeline and added transitions. i then clicked the arrow on the top right hand side and the spinning dots took a while. I'm now on a page where it will play and i can add text etc, but when I try to add text to diffrent photo's, it won't let me do this and keeps bringing me right back to the bigginning. I updated firefox yesterday and now have an unwanted splash screen preceding every search. Since fiddling (as one does) I have introduced a "do you want to allow this program to alter your computer" before opening 'youtube'. If I click no, it does not open youtube.. I hope I included the correct files as it is some time since I used these programs. Jim PS none of the above allows me to attach a file

Hi everybody. I’m Sammy, a clueless computer user. It makes very little sense to me. Until recently I relied on my partner Scott to do anything technical (even setting up the printers and tv) but he died in December and I now have to learn how to do stuff. Some of you may have known Scott as Synapse. He had some friends on here who he thought a lot of. I’m not sure who, but I guess you’ll know who you are. It’s a very steep learning curve from absolute novice to independent IT user, so please forgive my silly questions. I promise I’ll look on google first. Thanks I’m advance for your patience ❤️

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Synapse [ Scott ] who was a moderator here, has died after a fight with cancer his partner informs me. Scott had myeloma related amyloidosis - abnormal protein created by cancer cells stick to tissues in the organs. He died of massive organ failure. We appreciate the time and expertise that Scott brought to our forum. He will be sadly missed.
