Can security on a Microsoft account email address be compromised?
by Guest FormerMSDev- 0 replies

There have been recent attempts to connect to my MS account which the records in View Account Activity show as unsuccessful but these have coincided with very suspicious phishing attacks on the same mailbox. The account activity shows multiple "IMAP Autosynch" attempts obviously from VPN disguised locations such as Bulgaria, Syria etc.Shortly after these, phishing emails targeting specific companies that I deal with have been sent to the same email account.A couple may be coincidental, but there are just too many specific ones for it not to imply that someone is reading the emails in my account Continue reading...

Can deleting an email result in a malware infection?
by Guest Atruem- 0 replies

I am probably being paranoid, but here is my question:I use the browser version of Outlook. Recently I received an obviously spam email in my junk folder. I did not click on anything or even so much as open the email. All I did was delete the email then erase it from deleted items. How worried should I be about things such as malware infection or compromised security in other ways? (This was also on an old burner email address that I don't use anymore.)Before asking on here I also ran virus scans on both AVG (Deep Scan) and Malwarebytes, nothing came up. Continue reading...

Windows Defender Problem
by Guest MajaBiH- 0 replies
So... last sunday I got a NUIS virus (I installed some software that I thought was legit and okay- what a fool :)) and it deleted windows defender. But I decided to have a fresh install of windows 10 and virus finally disappeared, but some things didn't, like this one in the picture. I tried everything to restore it. Microsoft Defender is not even on the services list anymore. So, what should I do? I can't open Microsoft Store or even check for software updates. I use Malwarebytes for protection. I read dozens of articles, but without proper solution. Thank you :) Continue reading...

Hi guys!Sorry for my bad English :)Yesterday I wanted to play Sea of Thieves through xbox store with friends, but unfortunately my setup process has been terminated. At this morning I tried to continue downloading, but neither xbox nor microsoft store doesnt continue downloading, so i decide to delete game and try to download it again. After uninstalling i noticed, that my disk space just disappeared, about 80 GB. Of course it was files of the game that was in the hidden windows apps folder (C:\Program Files\WindowsApps), so i found third-party programm called TreeSizeFree and tried to delete Continue reading...

A random jpg image of explicit content was uploaded to my computer remotely while I was using it. What should I do?
by Guest Neil Mehra- 0 replies
Hi. My computer (with windows 10) recently had a jpg image uploaded to it remotely. The file itself is in the recycling bin as I have deleted it. This picture itself portrayed an explicit image as well as some people who I do not know. My computer is not connected to my iPhone and the images that were uploaded appeared while the computer was in use, appearing as an icon on the desktop home screen in the very middle. I am worried that this may not be just a one time incident, so is there anything I can do to prevent this spreading/happening again?Thank you. Continue reading...

Windows Security/Defender shows "recommended actions" without any problems and "App & browser control" does not work.
by Guest Mathias Gul- 0 replies

Hello,It's been a few days now that the Windows Security logo (bottom right of the screen) indicates that there is a problem with "recommended actions", while when I press it, it tells me that everything is fine (everything is green). Also, when I get to this Windows Security page, the "App & browser control" section is missing. When I try to search for "App & browser control" via the Windows search bar, I land on a blue page that closes after two seconds. However, when I try to access it via the Windows settings, the "App & browser control" section is there, even with a yellow tri Continue reading...

by Guest GemmaMulet- 0 replies

Hello, a couple days ago many of my emails had their passwords changed (not by me) so I changed all of them and turned on 2-step verification, but I didn't think of running the antivirus scan, which I ended up doing today after getting suspicious activity from 2 of my Google accounts again, the messages said they might have accessed them from malware in my device, the laptop I use. First I ran a quick scan with Windows Security and it found something called "Trojan:Win32/Androm.AC!rfn", it quarantined the file, and a few minutes later it got detected again (sorry for the screenshots being in S Continue reading...

Hi.I got a registry crash, and apply a restore to win11 to a checkpoint some days ago.Everything is fine, except windows defender, which got the message "TI Admin not allowing to install"That's not true, as my Win11 is Home, and not joined to any domainAFAIK it must be some conflict between the restored registry and some local files probably. For some reason, trying to install from MS Store is not an option, as it wnat's me to sign to "MS 365", which i don't plan to buy.So in simple: how to reinstall the included defender that cames with win11? (without reinstalling all the OS from scratch)befo Continue reading...

Azure sign-in logs
by Guest Azure-Mine1- 0 replies

Hi,I've been tracking some activity which I think is somewhat malicious. Within sign-in logs I've noticed quite a few failures from user accounts under application "Microsoft Azure CLI". Over the last month there has been an ever-increasing amount of this traffic from users that would have no reason (or business) to be signing into this application. 99% of attempts are failures and I am wondering if there is some other process, unbeknown to the user that could cause this error?I am happy to share the excerpt below as an example as we definitely don't have staff in Russia! Or any of the othe Continue reading...

I was in a rush to download Blender on this computer, the website looked identical to the last time I had seen it so I downloaded it the way I usually did. Double clicked the file and it ran its course, took a bit before I realized it was some sort of strange .ISO. I tried to stop it, turned off my computer, and relaunched, but now every now and then my google chrome crashes. Seems like others have had similar issues, but the fix that volunteer moderator _AW_ would recommend seemed like it was specific per person. This is the thread I was following before, though it seems its been closed now so Continue reading...

Windows Security - Suggestion: add and option to "Auto Quarantine" files
by Guest Mike_884- 0 replies
When Defender identifies malware users are required to click on a [start Actions] button to have such files quarantined. This for each and every (malware) file. This may be a bit cumbersome when performing an extensive unattended scan, such as a complete drive. Suggestion: add an option to have malware quarantined automatically. After the scan Defender should show what files have been quarantined, allowing users to restore files in case of a false positive, or.. when, at some point in time, files are identified as 'false positives' Defender should report this to the users and offer to retroact Continue reading...

MSRT or MSS
by Guest BILLIE DeARMOND- 0 replies
This is a curiosity question. I have MSRT (Malicious Software Removal Tool), and I have MSS (Microsoft Safety Scanner) on my computer. I ran MSRT first with it doing a full scan and it found no malicious software. Then I ran MSS doing a full scan and it found 4 software infections. Which one of the programs are telling me the truth? MSRT or MSS. MSRT scanned over 1,000,000 files and so did MSS on my computer, yet I have two different results. Once again, I use MSRT first and then MSS. Continue reading...

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right subject area, but....Running Win11 Home 22H2 (22621.755). After running 2 updates today, KB5018341 and then KB5018496 and both showing successful installs, a few minutes after restart, I got an email from *** Email address is removed for privacy *** telling me Windows Defender found a threat on K-------00 (my computer's name) and to open Windows Defender and take action right away. This happened twice. Once after each install restart.Defender is showing a green check mark in the system tray and opening it shows everything checked green. I've gone through each section Continue reading...
