Hi All, Bit of a strange topic question but bear with me. A couple of months ago my network adapter was knocked out after thunderstorms At the weekend I was going to connect a power surge protector where previously, I thought, I only had an ordinary extension cable with sockets, however when I unplugged everything and retrieved the said cable and sockets from behind the computer cupboard it turned out to be surge protected. So, here's where my question comes in, the pc was plugged into the surge protector but the router was plugged into and adjacent powerline adapter (so not surge protected), so would the network adapter have been knocked out by a surge coming through…

Hi, A couple of months ago I posted a thread about my lost internet connection after thunderstorms, I also mentioned that my monitor wasn't working. The monitor problem seemed to have been resolved at the time, but since then if ever I've shut the pc down completely I've had problems getting the monitor going again usually pressing F8 on boot up has worked, however, this time it hasn't. Any suggestions?

I have a two year old Asus laptop running Windows10. Yesterday when I opened it, it was on the log in screen, so obviously had ran an update during the night. Yesterday it was a bit slow and photos on Facebook weren't loading. Today when I opened it it had got much worse with practically nothing loading on Facebook and other websites very slow. I use AVG free antivirus and ran a scan which showed up nothing. I tried to download Malware bytes but the download just hangs after a few kb. Same with ccleaner. Tonight I tried a system restore to a week ago. It took forever but did eventually work, however nothing has changed, still the exact same problems. After this chrome wou…

Hi People:)!!! My old xp desktop has served me well for the last several years, but now that I can't even watch tv catch up its time for a change. I have been searching on google and youtube for some directions on how to upgrade to a newer operating system, either windows 7 or even windows 10. for free. There is a lot of conflicting views about this, some say you can, some say you cant. then others say that you need a disc or flash drive with an ISO on it I am still in the dark as to what to do, so I thought I would ask the forum for some advice. as it is, I don't have a disk, or a flash drive with an ISO on it (i don't know what an ISO is anyway) and the only produ…

I am looking for a cheap "gaming" laptop and my budget is 500.- euro max. And I know that I probably won't get a laptop for that price with the games I want to play. But maybe some of you have seen a decent laptop for me. Do you have any suggestions what laptop I might consider buying? Any help would be appreciated.

If you’re one of the millions of holdouts still unwisely clinging to Windows XP, Mozilla’s Firefox browser just waved you goodbye. It’s a connection to XP that started with Firefox’s public launch in 2004, and ended with version 52 in March 2017, after which support for the obsolete OS continued under the Extended Support Release Channel (ESR) which staggered on until version 59.1.0. Mozilla has used this week’s launch of Firefox 62 as the moment to cast XP adrift for good, justified because the company believes the OS makes up only 2% of Firefox’s user base, down from 8% in 2017. Firefox has lasted longer than Chrome, which ended its support with version 50 in 2…

The malware is currently being distributed through the RIG exploit kit. The RIG exploit kit, which at its peak infected an average of 27,000 machines per day, has been grafted with a new tool designed to hijack browsing sessions. The malware in question, a rootkit called CEIDPageLock, has been distributed through the exploit kit in recent weeks. According to researchers from Check Point, the rootkit was first discovered in the wild several months ago. CEIDPageLock was detected when it attempted to tamper with a victim's browser. The malware was attempting to turn their homepage into 2345.com, a legitimate Chinese directory for weather forecasts, TV listi…

Hi to all, I am having a problem with my computer. I have it set up so I don't have to enter a password when I turn it on. I just started using Outlook and now when I turn it on it wants a password. I am also seeing two users but I am the only one using this computer. Would a system restore solve this problem?I have already done the 3 steps below. Step 1) Login to your user (Admin) i.e. just start the Windows 8 with your username and password. Step 2) Open command prompt (shortcut “Windows key+R”) and type “netplwiz” without quotes. Or you can just open the Metro UI screen and start typing “netplwiz” it will give you the result under app search like this: Step …

Tried to reset computer to factory settings through settings on windows 10 using Packard Bell. Came up with a blue screen, delete all or save personal files. I clicked delete all. It got to about 50% and said there was a problem so it had to cancel and no changes were made. I clicked to go back to windows 10 and it keeps flashing black screen and then Packard Bell logo with small writing at bottom to press del or f12 to display boot menu. How do I get it back?
